Imus and guest Col Jack Jacobs relish the Spitzer pickle. The two discuss the Governor’s performance as NY Attorney General with regards to the NYSE and speculate on potential Gambino crime family implications.
ChanX | CliffsNotes
Jacobs: There was a war-hoop of success from the floor of the NYSE when Spitzer’s news came down. Cheering the demise of their nemesis. Spitzer is clearly an evil man.
Imus: What Spitzer did to “my friend” Dick Grasso was so outrageous. Whatever you think about Grasso, everybody knew what was going on. You got to pay these guys to run companies whether they are charities or not.
Jacobs: Spitzer just picked targets of opportunity. He was very selective about it. It’s not the he sprayed the whole area with a shotgun with #7 bird-shot. Spitzer just picked his targets carefully to make sure he made a point.
Jacobs: What was really interesting about Spitzer’s News Conference (quote, unquote), really startling he said its a private matter. It’s not a private matter the governor is a public person. Lawyers will tell you the rules for slander and libel for public persons is very much different then for private persons.
Jacobs: I right now can say the Governor of New York Is A Sanctimonious Jackass. And can get away with it because he is a public person.
Imus: It must have occurred to a lot of people that these escort services especially the high end ones have go to be part of some organized crime family, like the Gambinos.
Jacobs: It Has been reported to me that this is a Gambino operation, either directly or indirectly. If anyone should have known it would have been Governor Elliot Spitzer. He has prosecuted associates of the Gambino Family over a period of time. Maybe that’s how they were introduced in the first place!
Imus: Some Psychological thing going on here.
Jacobs: You’re are talking about a lot of money. You’re talking about a “round-fiver” after tip. My car isn’t worth $5,000!
Imus: Even if the wife volunteers to walk out there, how about show some guts and walk out by yourself?
Jacobs: She looked like she was on Thorazine. She may have been dragged out there against her will. Why any woman would stand next to him in this circumstance is beyond me.
Imus: Back to Dick Grasso and Ken Langone (founder Home Depot) who sometimes I’ve been mean to and probably should not have been. He is a great guy.
Jacobs: He’s a big boy and a great guy who can take it. Turns out Grasso and Langone were right about Spitzer. They were absolutely right from the very beginning. Anyone who was close to them and knowing what was going on in the NYSE knew they were right. Just an opportunity for Spitzer to make his name, like he did so successfully across the board.
Jacobs: Bad things happen to good people, but bad things happen to bad people too. Lets hope they continue to happen.
ChanX Note: Happen they did! Elliot Spitzer resigned as Governor of New York State effective March 17, 2008. Happy St Paddys Day, Elliot!

Well that save me for doing the interview.
Here is a question for our loyal posters.
What do you think will happen to Elliot Spitzer?
1. Be treated for sex addiction
Opps,
2. Write a book
3. Private law practice and make a fortune unless he is disbared.
4. Nothing good?
I think he’ll join his wife’s crochet group.
Hookers EVERYWHERE!!!!!
This whole “Spitzer Epoch” where we find out the “noble crusader” is fatally flawed, seems so Shakespearean. Whether Spitzer should have known better neglects the history of tragedy on this scale which has repeated itself since the time of Aristotle.
Spitzer & Imus – we remember when Spitzer tried to ‘get’ Imus & the ranch. Didn’t work out for him did it? He had to back off. Now we see that the ‘Emporer’ Spitzer has no clothes. He left them with the Emporer girls. lol
Anybody hear “Mo” today. I missed it having to take the dog, about to become the NJ TNPKE mascot, to the vet.
Have stayed at the Mayflower Hotel. It is a large hotel presented in a grand style. Marriot touts the property as a Luxury Hotel, which it is to some extent.
Recall the Mayflower as having many entrances. Unfortunately for Elliot Spitzer there is one to few exits!
Skiwolf,
Here’s a link to the MO appearance.
http://www.wabcradio.com/article.asp?id=616063&spid=22807
Enjoy!
Remember the ‘Mayflower Madam’ from an old rich New England family with the last name Biddle?
Thanks X. Wow, ABC has really upgraded their website. About time.
Well Mo was great today. Now I have to go find that Rolling Stone picture of her. I think Imus has a little bit of a thing for the girl. Of course, Dierdre would Bobet him in a nano second.
The Mayflower has history beyond the Madam!
Washington Mayor Barry @ The Mayflower
Senator Gravel on recieving the Pentagon Papers @ The Mayflower
What a face Spitzer is making above graphic, what is the name of that body language woman O’Reilly has on the factor? Tanya something….I hope they do a segment and tell us what that facial expression means…I think it means I am f@#K*d oops that’s redundant.
I have been advised that I should not place links to You Tube presentations on this site.
Also will not be commenting any longer since my contributions are not wanted or required. Something about an infringement on copyrights.
Well if you wish to see any presentations I may make in the future you will have to go to my channel on You Tube.

Otherwise; That’s all Folks.
That’s not what I said, Bruce. I just cannot be included in the selection and/or creative process in any way.
Anyone is welcome to put links to whatever they want in the comments.
Two words for you:
Bill Clinton.
He’ll get disbarred, but spend the rest of his life reparing his marriage and trust with his kids and making money by giving speeches.
This is so ten years ago.
Oh here we go again with the drama queen stuff. Bruce, this is an IMUS fan site. Quit trying to make it about you.
Whatever Keith said to you was said privately. Try keeping it that way, okay…especially since you apparently misunderstood it.
Sheesh.
LMAO — Cindy Adams —– what a hoot that was. Finally, someone who wasn’t wringing their hands in total distress. Very funny stuff.
“I’m merely saying, so what? It’s like takeout food. Less work for mother.”
http://www.nypost.com/seven/03122008/gossip/cindy/stay_with_shpritzer__smart_lady_101517.htm
I listened to Curtis Sliwa while waiting for IITM to begin…Curtis is already ranting about not-yet-sworn-in-Gov. Paterson even while others such as Cindy Adams are swooning over him…I don’t know what Curtis’ issues are except one thing he was clear about…Paterson spent inordinate time on the phone yesterday with Al “Slim Shady” Sharpton. If it’s true, that can’t be good.
New York politics has a way of affecting everybody…my husband’s industry was one of Spitzer’s prime targets, so there’s no love lost here.
I can tell you what Sliwa’s problem is. He’s a complete idiot listened to by the NY/NJ “Gold Chain Crowd”. You have to speak in dees and doos and dats to listen to Sliwa.
That aside, Paterson apparently is very highly thought of by many disparate groups. However, he is also known as being very liberal and very liberal when it comes to all matters “Police”. That is what Sliwa’s problem is who is just the right of Atilla the Hun.
Joel Lieberman and Imus were talking about VP choices. Here’s George Will’s perspective.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/12/AR2008031203393.html?nav=rss_opinion/columns
Thanks for elucidating, Skiwolf. I can’t help but be suspicious of anything reeking of Sharpton.
I’m looking forward to the next Debra Dickerson interview, promised for Monday (if I heard correctly).
Cindy Adams advising Silda to “stay with Shpritz”. This morning on Imus she revealed that her Joey’s name was associated with a prosititution ring early in their marriage! More then a gossip column today, this is advice from someone who has been there.
Hey DjJack,
You going to start this crap here too. Go back to Imus Truth. What went on between Keith and I is none of your business.
And if your going to start with the name calling hang on because I am ready for one negative comment again by yee who doesn’t have he energy to follow what others do here.
Ylou are full of BS. So please keep your opinion about this to yourself.
No actually I’m agreeing with you. What went on between Keith and you is none of my business. I’m asking you to keep it that way.
I don’t know who yee is, so I can’t comment on whatever negative comments they’ve made.
Have a nice day.
DjJack,
Let me clear this up for you. If you were agreeing with me then where did the drama queen statement come from?
I call those fighting words.
When I posted that last night it was after being up for almost 48 hours putting together YT presentations. Probably something you don’t watch.
Next time you wish to be supportive do so in a kinder way. There is no room for in fighting at this group. Enough of it goes on at Imus Truth.
Now drop it so I can go about my daily routine.
I was agreeing with you that it should be kept private.
I was disagreeing with your decision to make it private.
I do not take orders from you, so that tactic will not work with me.
If you’re saying that in a sleep-deprived state you posted something you shouldnt’ have, then fair enough. It happens.
You, and only you, control your daily routine.
It’s dropped, unless you need further clarification. The choice is yours.
Have a wonderful day.
Oops. I meant to type that I was disagreeing with your decision to make it public.
I sounded like a politician for a minute…EEK!!
Further on Curtis Sliwa and on a depressing note.
His former radio show on WABC with a guy named Ron Kuby, was actually higher rated in the NY market than Imus. It always ruined my day whenever I heard that.
The only saving grace is that Imus out billed them by a gadzillion dollars as their advertisers where mostly “The Hair Club for Men”, etc.
Either way the whole thing is cleared up. Go back to being your normal non-productive commenting.
And until Keith mentioned it you would not have known where it came from. So the less said the better.
I also do not like rude and insensitive people like you. If it doesn’t work with you, it surely doesn’t work with me.
As stated this is a freedom of speech sight. All Opiinons are welcomed. But personal unwarranted attacks are not.
This is my last recommendatiion to you before someone else adds their two cents to your nonsense.
Speaking of advertising. I’m sure everyone has noticed that component of the show is really picking up in terms of the number of higher profile, quality advertisers.
This revenue is imiportant. Imus will never have big ratings I don’t think as most of his audience actually has a brain and is interested is disparate views and opinions.
I totally agree Skiwolf. Imus was never that popular from a ratings standpoint. He just made bookoo bucks by attracting wealthy listeners.
Quality over quantity. More people have seen My Fair Brady than My Fair Lady. Doesn’t mean it’s better.
Wonderful program this morning, Karith gave Geraldine Ferraro a work out today. When I think of what Ferraro stated, I think of that Justin Timberlake song, “Cry me a River” the lyrics, the damages is done so I guess I’ll be leaving.
Karith to Geraldine Ferraro, Here “Have Some” LOL. I love when Ellen gets a plug, work her in more, remember my husband’s youngest brother works for Ellen Degeneres “set decorator” We love Ellen in our house! I think Marty-Chickaboomer, was blogging about Ellen acutally beating Oprah in ratings awhile back too. Tony is too funny, it’s hard out here for a pimp, in or outside the box. Imus let them loose today
College Girl blogs,
http://getoffmyphone.blogspot.com/2008/03/ho-no.html
This Ho thing, Dr Laura, was on Hannity and Colmes last night, saying it isn’t about sex, it is about the man not getting enough attention at home he wants someone to talk to….for $5,000 a shot? Spitzer never heard of phone sex? My husband weighed in on the $5,000.00, note to Dr Laura, at that price, it is all about the sex, and she should be validating parking too
Ski,
I was surprised to hear that Sliwa is still doing the 5AM hour. Isn’t he on at 10AM after Imus? He was suppose to replace John R. Gambling.
Frankly he is not very informative with his little poetic statements.
When Sliwa and Kuby were more highly rated by the New York audience than Imus, you have to remember they were not syndicated, not on TV and the New York flavor is what the Tri-State area liked about them. And they were more highly rated by the wrong age demgraphic. Of course they didn’t make any money for the station. Unless Aamco (BEEP BEEP) pays them a million dollars for Sliwa’s presentations. Sliwa should have been fired too. Along with George Weber and Ron Kuby. I do question John R. Gambling being let go. That name is well known in Radio history.
And as far as Imus not having big ratings. As more stations are added and these cable deals come to fruition it remains to be seen. That’s my opinion.
Thanks Ski
Yeah Bruce, that is why I noted it was the NY market. I didn’t say national, including sydication. I’ll be most interested to see Imus’ ratings in NY whenever they become available.
2008 Winter Arbitron radio ratings – likely release is around the 3rd week of April…
2008 Arbitron ratings… cool/finally, that will be great to see.
In Re: to Spitzer: I think he’ll either blow his brains out or have a come to Jesus moment. This guy has nowhere else to go. As Cindy Adams said this morning, it’s not so much the sex, it’s the hypocrosiy (spell?).
Cindy Adams was great. I wish she were on the show more often. She was very funny but also spoke from the point of view of someone who has experienced unfaithfulness in a marriage.
Karith and Tony were as bright as the sun this morning.. especially Tony.
Imus was trying to get Cindy Adams to talk about what she wouldn’t do. Hilarious!
Ginger,
I thought what Karith did today, was what a whole bunch of other people should have been doing, since Ferraro made that comment, giving it right back to her. What was that about, did Ferraro owe the Clintons a favor? Cindy Adams was good it seemed like she was enjoying herself too.
This is Marty’s take on Miz Ferraro, be sure to check out her blog after this one- White men don’t Hump! Washington Post weighs in on Spitzer …you know the old, men are hardwired for this behavior yada, yada, yada.
http://chickaboomer.blogspot.com/2008/03/devil-made-me-do-it.html
My Reply in the blog by Chickaboomer “MARTY”
Bruce: From me – a right crazy Hillary supporter – It was Mondale & Geraldine in 1984 -
I’m not ready for Bush’s 3rd term by McCain. He’s joined at the hip with Dubya – the dubba. Dangerous Dubya.
Thank you STdomsgirl for the correction.
R.I.P Hillary
Bruce: Lol ~ the R. I. P. – Hillary reference – Touche` R. I. P. Glad it didn’t get ‘my Irish up’! I can take a little ribbing.
I know StDomsgirl,
Seems your buddies over at Imus Truth can’t. I was making a little joke and do not take it personally.
John McCain is no George W Bush. McCain is his own person. He proved that 40 years ago in the Hanoi Hilton. And in the Senate where he has cut his own path.
So did many other of our Vets. McCain is only ONE of many. Not special. Just as Dubya is not special – especially when he evaded overseas duty in order to Fly High while Flying High on Cocaine over Texas during those Vietnam days.
BTW: I don’t consider anyone who posts on these 2 sites as friends. JAYSUS! This is cyberspace. I don’t know any posters even as I read the rants. Its a riot. I don’t CARE.
I’m about as tired of this STD person as one can get.
McCain is a sane path to try and end this disaster in Iraq as best as possible. To think Evil Hillary or Obama can do that is beyond foolish.
Time for another Guiness, STD. Thank God I’m out of the country without computer next week as you remind everyone 4,442 times that you’re Irish.
Ski,
Now be nice. We despite Stdomsgirl’s statement that she doesn’t consider anyone her friends. In a way we are.
We are friends of a feather. Have one Goal in mind. Keep Imus on the Air.
And as he continues to be on, the program is getting better and better.
There is Only one “IMUS”
Thanks Ski and Thanks Stdomsgrl. We are all in the same boat. And it is not the “Titanic”
R.I.P —– oh sorry that’s been said, 4,442 times.
John McCain’s Military Citations
Silver Star
Legion of Merit
Bronze Star
Purple Heart
Distinguished Flying Cross
Prisoner of War Medal
National Defense Service Medal
Vietnam Service Medal
Vietnam Campaign Medal (Republic of Vietnam)
These citations are representative of McCains distinguished service. This should put to rest the notion that he is no one special…

Bruce: You are SO right – What brought our Motley crew together was our love of the IITM show. I can’t quite remember how I found this site {or the other} but We HAD to do something to show our outrage over Imus’s treatment last April. SkI: Do I bother you? GOOD! My work is done!
RIP STD. LOL @@@ bother me. Silly thing.
Oh and STD. Speaking of McCain. You still haven’t apologized to me for accusing me of saying something I did not say. But, perhaps you don’t remember at this point I guess.
STD is my special project. She has an enormous faculty for Shakespeare but IMO is history deficient. Have taken it on myself to help her fill in the blanks. Blanks for example include US military adventures and John McCain’s military service…
Ski: Nope: I do not apologize to groundlings or gits. American Military History is my second best interest – from the Revolutionary War – Civil War – WW1 – WW2 and all battles in between. I come from a Military family – all 3 uncles WW2 & Korea & 2 brothers Vietnam. My retired {30+ year} Army Uncle Don ‘Tex’ Carey lives in Texas & is active at Randolph. Uncle Tex attended the opening of the new facility for the Intrepid – fallen heros January 31st 2007 when Imus & the Gang with Kinky Friedman & John Mellencamp & McCain & Hillary were all there. I got Kinky’s autograph on a Wooden Plaque of Texas inscribed with to Judy: God Bless Texas, Kinky Friedman. I have many pic. my uncle took of Bernie, Charles, Lou, & Imus. I love the Military. Thank-God for our brave men & women. God Bless McCain for his service – have heard & read about it ad nauseum. I will NEVER vote for him. Even if his name is the only one on the ballot. He is a warmonger. Period. Sheesh! Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran sung to the Beach boys ‘Barbara Ann
Here’s a U.S. Military adventure for you:
Let’s invade Iraq…we KNOW they have weapons of mass destruction…because WE gave them to them to fight the Iranians. (Just like we supported the same people in Afghanistan when they fought against the Russians…and that bit us in the ass too…)
Besides, we can’t seem to capture or kill (“we will find you, and bring you to justice or kill you, no matter where you hide…”) the bastards that committed the heinous act of 9/11. So, we squandered the resolve of the entire world we once had at our backs…
…let’s get the testosterone levels of the nation up for a better fight we CAN win…
THAT is history. You may not like it…but the “Greatest Nation on the Earth” supplied the underlying principles that we inevitably have to (once again) go back and clean up. We haven’t learned a DAMNED thing from any of it all.
Here, in my view would be a welcome scenario for the “Greatest Country of the World”:
Admit when you are wrong.
Admit there might be others that can be of help, and not by outright collusion.
Admit we might not BE the “Greatest Nation On Earth”..and strive to do better…
…or, strive to be just as the Romans did (as we have in our recent history) and suffer the fate of the Roman Empire.
History is doomed to repeat itself. Patriotism and Testosterone alone won’t stop that. Neither will evoking the name of God.
Honesty would be a good start.
LOL @@@ groundlings and gits. STD, you need to get a grip on those brewskies. As in put them down for a change.
DONALDINKS: AMEN. AMEN. AMEN. You are always the voice of reason without being offensive to those who disagree with you. Thank-you. You are a ’sterling’ individual. Glad you never ask me to say I’m sorry for what I say! Bush wouldn’t know honesty if it hit him in the face. He’s a ‘Dry Drunk’ Well, maybe he hasn’t been so dry after all – remember when he fell I hit his face a year or 2 ago they said he was reaching for a pretzel & fell. RIGHT! Lol Of course We the People will never know
The United States has never engaged in a preemptive war and John McCain’s service was nothing special?
Nope don’t drink. Now I’ll finish eating my Banana Split & big glass of milk – then go to bed. As Ben Franklin said ‘Early to bed, early to rise makes one healthy, wealthy & wise’ The wealth aint gonna happen but 2 out of 3 aint bad as ‘Meatloaf’ sang.
Channel why are you so combative? I shan’t engage in combat with you tonight. Another day, perhaps. LOL
IMO – Stating John McCain’s service was “Not special’ is an insult to every troop who was ever awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star or Purple Heart.
Not combative – Just clarifying. After all facts are facts… Besides, like Ty Pennington you are my special project.
Not LOL’ing matters stdomsgirl, & questions are a good teaching technique… And it’s fun to poke the monkey.
US present day that we know and take for granted is built on aggressive, often preemptive military action— outstanding short book on the subject: Surprise, Security & the American Experience by J.L. Gaddis. Highly recommended.
Just popped in because I was wondering what everyone’s viewing/listening habits are for IITM.
Me, there have been weeks where I have seen/heard literally every second, but lately time available is dropping off significantly. Usually watch on RFD but catch the radio occasionally if I happen to be driving at that time(very rare).
Usually try to catch all the interviews, and if everyone’s laughing as I Tivo-speed through I stop and catch up. But with all this Spitzer talk, even most of the interviews are just not interesting me. I get the story. Don’t need more detail/info.
How about you guys? Listen or watch? How much?
Spitzer may be a uniquely NY story. It’s odd to me how many people I talk to who are associated with Elliot through family or friends.
It’s nice to see everyone getting along so well. Just remember what Eric Segal said in that great, great novel of his …”Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” Don’t that just warm the old heart some?
I wonder of ex-Gov. Spitzer has tried that one out?
hey mike, does “ex dem” make you a “neo con”?
Neo con? Do you mean Republican? No.
I’m desperately trying to be an independent this time around …but it’s not easy. I watched Lou Dobbs earlier today, and in his broadcast he mentioned his dissatisfaction for BOTH parties. As I listened to him I thought “I know how you feel Lou.”
I’m just looking for a little common sense and for politicians that are willing to make some hard but necessary choices …and maybe, even, …lead!?! That’s not this year’s crop of Democrats or Republicans …including McCain, Obama, and Hillary (Satan) …so far anyway. I’m still holding my breath …waiting for Huckabee’s miracle to come true. And by the way, that miracle is not going to be Ralph Nader.
Maybe I should have that Guinness.
…not necessarily Republican. Half-joking.
I also recently left the Democrats, but caught in between. When I found out the Independent Party is actually a party, I lost enthusiasm for the switch. But the Dems have totally turned me off, and it’s getting worse.
Guinness is always a good bet. Guinness is good for you! http://www.posterconnection.com/auctions/pc/auction_21/jpg_l/021_081.jpg
Keith
They begged us for our votes. They said if we put them in the majority all kinds of wonderful things would happen. How long’s it been now?
All I’ve heard them do is whine …and lie.
Imus was soooo right about Nancy Pelosi. I liked Joe Biden for President but I knew it would never happen. He at least had an idea for a political solution to the quagmire called Iraq. Too bad nobody listened.
I think I’ve found a new avatar …thanks.
Keith, This is for your listening survey: I listen to IITM everyday by streaming on line. I don’t set an alarm…my schedule has readjusted itself naturally to “Imus Time” (pun intended) which begins at 5 am. Daylight saving time was a challenge this week, but I’m back to normal.
I try to catch as much as possible of the show in “real time” on the wabc stream. I used to listen to Imusonair until the ads and psa’s became tedious. Plus I was missing stuff that was relevant, e.g.,Charles’ newscasts, and the traffic and weather gals. I like hearing what’s going on in NYC – my husband frequently travels there, and I have 5 sets of relatives in the vicinity of New York City, northern New Jersey, and Connecticut. I know their weather before I know my own.
I got Bose headphones for the laptop…great sound quality…could there be a more relaxing way to start each day along with a cup of Ranch Roast? Sometimes I’m so “relaxed” I fall asleep during a segment or interview (I actually haven’t heard Tony in a while
in that case I listen to Bruce’s tubes or a pod-cast.
I’m still looking forward to RFD, but I’m so used to this routine now, I wonder if I would really make the switch to viewing rather than listening. The next time I get to fly up there myself, I will definitely make a trip to the Imus Window.
Thanks for asking! I’d like to hear about others too… lol
Speaking of daylight saving time, did the website time clock adjust for the time change? I noticed my posting times are accurate for Central Time.
“Schadenfreude” makes me feel “schade” not “freude.” Watching the YouTube of Jim Cramer struggling to keep his composure talking about the Spitzers on the Today Show interview was pitiful and sad.
I ever I was going to advocate some one losing their job for what they say on the air, this would be it.
Where’s management?
http://newsprism.wordpress.com/2008/03/13/lets-compare-neal-boortz-to-don-imus-where-the-hell-are-the-media/
Don Imus made one slip of the tongue regarding some adults. Neal Boortz of WSB 750 in Atlanta has spent the last week mocking and ridiculing a disabled child on his radio show and on his website. Why the firestorm around Imus, and not a word about Boortz?
Sometimes I wonder what this country is coming to.

Keith,
) Occasionally listen to KSRO stream at work; however, it appears may have picked up a Trojan from abacast. IT friend says may be a false read by antivirus, but scanned and cleaned anyway. Agree WABC flows better and also enjoy NYC news, weather and Paul Harvey; wish stream were better.
Signed on with Direct TV for Imus. Watch every morning and then stream 9-9:30 on ImusonAir, a fav part of the show. Have gradually maneuvered am schedule around commercials. (Have clock next to tv
Agree with Charles – “Hate Mendacious Whores”
Keith,
In addition to the radio show, I have another job to pay the bills. I’m at that job Wed-Sun.
Soooo….I try to listen to Imus live through WTAN in Tampa Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Then on the weekends, I listen to the IT podcasts while at work.
Slightly off topic;
This is a very interesting article on “teens today”. I would love to know what you all think of it. I feel that there will be a unique perspective here our little family here is mostly comprised f “boomers” who were forced into “web 2.0″ by circumstances almost a year ago.
http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2008/03/14/kids_and_internet/index.html?source=rss&aim=/mwt/feature
Does the author make valid points? Has howwe learn changed? Should it have? Is there anything wrong with kids today?
Somewhat troubling is that after 3 months plus, RFD still has so little commercial support for Imus.
Yes, they have to “cover-off” a bunch of radio spot time, so we get a lot of non-Imus material, but that’s almost all non-paying….public service, promos, farm news, Imus flashbacks, etc.
No matter what we think of MSNBC, they still played a lot of paid commercials during IITM.
Also troubling are the reports of how unwilling most cable companies are to add RFD, despite the persistent pleas of Imus fans.
It’s been about five years now, ronrob, since my wife and I moved in to our present home in Avon Lake, OH. After a very difficult and chaotic move was finally complete (took two days) and the cable was hooked up (Comcast then; Time-Warner now) I settled down one morning and went to turn on Imus in the Morning …couldn’t find it. No MSNBC on Comcast in this area at that time.
After a year of pleading and griping on the phone and by e-mail they finally added it …and they didn’t even announce it …it was just there one day. We moved just a couple of days before the boxing match between Sid and Bernie. I really wanted to see that.
I’ve got a lot of trees around me, but I’m calling one of the Dish outfits this spring when the trees are in full bloom, just to see if by some chance I can get a signal. If I can, goodbye overpriced / overrated cable.
Keith
I am watching RFD TV and recording on my DVR, direct tv, I have noticed this past week alot more RFD TV PSAs, really can do without grandma telling me how she took computer classes. If this is a public service message, give them – the viewers a phone number or website to contact, to find classes in their area..I mean, I could do better finding away of getting grandma to a computer class then RFD TV, the part about it helping her husband’s farming chores, that takes 5 seconds tops…. LAMEO! PSAs not working on all demographics, that is my point, and I think the PSAs should at least form a purpose with specific information…grandma gets her Internet On? Okay I am done venting.
I want more Van Morrison, I am a big fan of Wild Nights…who covered Wild Nights back in the 90s..it was one of those bald headed chicks…that’s right Tony, I stated Chicks..and it is my hope someday to visit the homeland, you know Caucasia
I like KLF and Tammy Wynette too, we’re all going to moo moo land, moo moo land, make mine a 99…moo moo land – (They’re singing about Caucasia right?) and they drive an ice cream truck…They’re justified and They’er ancient, moo moo land, moo moo land. Oh yeah Spitzer likes his vanilla!
Being a Caucasian American, I am so hoping someday to return to our ancestral homeland of Caucasia
It’s moo moo land right? I always thought that is what KLF was singing about.
Have a look at the shirts in the graphic on this page one is KLF the other reads “things are grim up north” that might cover how Eliot Sptizer feels this past week.
Moo Moo Land…Ancient Caucasia?

Laree,
Even though I praised Karith for a piece well thought out and creative, it doesn’t mean that I totally agree with her…on the other hand, Ferraro, was very careless in her comments. Ferraro bowed out, and rightly so.
I don’t think it was anything devious and I don’t think she did it because she owed the Clintons a favor. Maybe, I’m naive but those are my thoughts.
It’s a very shaky situation regarding going against Barack Obama. Any criticism of him will be considered racist. Is this fair? Of course not. However, black people have legitimate reasons for being sensitive. It’s a very very fine line to walk.
Maybe all of this is the process we have to go through to finally see the day when the past has been forgiven and color doesn’t matter. Maybe it’s a continuing evolving that we are experiencing. Maybe it will be a thousand years from now when we are at the right place. Who knows? I hope, however, that it won’t be that long for us to realize that we are all God’ children and that we should be able to give and take equally.
Frec,
I hear you about that window and your Imus routine!
My most usual routine is listening from 9:00a.m.central until noon at imusonair. I don’t catch all of the show, but what I don’t get, I listen to the podcasts as I have time. Those Imus podcasts sure help my need for a “fix” on the week-ends! Every once in a while I get up early for the wabc real time broadcast, but not very often since I usually stay up till about 1:00 in the morning. And of course, there is no frickin RFD in my house becasue of frickin TIME WARNER! Radio listening, however, is fun, I’ve found.
I like listening to the traffic and weather reports in NYC. My daughter lives there and those reports make me feel closer to her. Besides I know her weather better than she does.. haha…I’m sure this annoys her.. ha
As far as THE WINDOW…the last time I was in NYC visiting Kelly, my daughter, I was actually right in front of Madison Square Garden waiting to meet up with her. If I had looked to the left, I could see the post office. I’m not sure which corner I was at. There was a TGIF across the street, I believe, where we ate. Was I close to Imus? I think I was.. however, at the time, it was last October and he wasn’t back on radio yet…still, next time I visit Kelly, I’m damn sure going to be at that window with a big “effin” sign.. I LOVE YOU I-MAN…GINGER! ha.. can’t wait…will probably be next fall and I hope to heck he is still on! He’d better be!
I found the cover of Wildnights, it was 1994 this is pretty good for a cover probably why I remembered it? Tony must really like Van Morisson by now…drinkinnng wine in the alley, drinkinnng wine in the alley:) We actually did something similar out behind a place called the Top Hat in Missoula, Montana. I can’t remember if it was wine? Anyway I am familar with the ritual.

Ginger, these folks have been in politics too long, for them to say something off the cuff, everything they say is planned out for effect and if their selected soundbite, will make the news cycle. Geraldine is not a novice. I believe she took one for the team, after all she went first and was shot down as VP canidate many moons ago. There is some history there, Queen Maker? who knows. I believe people who have been in politics this long, make calculated statements for maxium impact, another thing to check is the timing, did it come out when Obama was picking up the win in Mississippi and the caucus in Texas? They want to mess with his momentum. He needs to come out quicker in response to his Pastor’s remarks about controversial posistions…this doesn’t help Obama and it is in the loop of the news cycle right now. I don’t understand why it is being played up in the media now because Obama’s pastor’s remarks have been out there and on public record. Why is it an issue now?
Imus does Beantown.
http://www.greatermedia.com/press/detail.php?ID=333
“Circumstantial evidence” is beginning to stack up against Obama. Jeremiah’s comments and sermons are very damaging because even though one does not agree with everything a pastor says, the minute one said “God damn America” would be the last day I was a member there.
I have wondered for a long time now just what and who controls the news blitz on any particular subject. Is it a diversion? But who makes these decisions because the same thing is on all networks.
I do believe that the Clintons are responsible for bringing the campaign to the subject of race. I put nothing past them and you can’t tell me Geraldine F. didn’t know exactly what she was doing when she made her comment. I do think it is a shame that the mention of race is anathema, but she knew.
But the thought of a president (potential) sitting under the sermons of a person who seems to hate the U. S. and whose words and tone of voice are so hateful is just too much for me.
nice avatar mike— (at first I was like, whoa, did I miss that before?)
Thanks again for the great graphic, Keith. Looking at a pint of Guinness is real fine …drinking one is better.
Keith,
I videotape IITM via Direct TV and watch it when I get home from work. Then I cull the “Best Of Imus” on C.D., just for personal reasons…and for my friends. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the sense of how you’re getting the show, how much of it you get.
Still not too many radio affiliates have the show I don’t think, but he is on from 3am-5am on KABC790 out here, which is new since the comeback. Still haven’t seen the huge “HE’S BACK!” billboard that I was looking forward too though. Out West, Imus is a late-late-late show more than a morning show.
Whether all the sudden attention on Obama’s Reverend Wright is planned by the Hillary Camp, the McCain Camp, or the media itself, is not really that relevant to me.
The fact is that Obama has stayed a member of that church for 10 years amidst that type of ranting and atmosphere. It’s unnerving and a lot to swallow, but I’ll have to vote for him if he is the nominee. I just don’t feel like I have a choice. This country will as Imus says, ‘ nevah, nevah, nevah,’ have universal health care and I will add ‘under a republican.’ ..and Universal Health care is the main tune me and millions of others are singing…there’s a chance of getting a better health care system with Obama.. there’s no chance with a republican. I don’t hate McCain or Republicans. They are just not going to listen to the cries of the people. I am going to have to sacrifice a lot of values that I uphold because of the health care matter. I don’t like it, but it is what it is.
This King thing, the Pastor at the Church Barack Obama belongs to has been condemned by many.
I am now looking for all the audio I can on this obvious “NUT CASE”.
If Obama does not reject this man’s rants he will find a load of people losing some faith in his campaign.
And bet your bottom dollar that the Clinton (deceptive campaign) will jump on this like a rabbit in heat.
What Church do the Clinton’s go to? The Church of “Satan”.
Believe me gang that no matter the age of a candidate it doesn’t matter what these Democrats do. Like in a Nascar race when two cars running 1st and 2nd are running side by side, the third place driver is going to catch them. I am talking of a drafting type race where a single line is the fastest way around. Maybe not a good analogy but the only one I can think of at this moment.
John McCain may not be the youngest horse in the race but he is the one with the true experience. And to hold his age against him is like throwing the Baby out with the Bath water.
Do not be fooled by these fools who believe that Hillary should get the nod when it comes to the nomination. Because if she does she loses in my opinion in the General Election.
If Barack get’s the nod then we have a true competition between Barack and McCain. And the numbers you see in these primaries for voting will be a lot less.
Everything I said is my opinion and has no bearing on anyones preferences. But the Clinton’s cannot win or we will be doomed.
Tony was on fire today. Rob’s Don Corleone was again, clever and laugh out loud funny. Karith…I don’t get it. It was a straight ’scum’ report. Not much there. But Carville was a fascinating guest. I know there’s many ‘haters’ out there, but listening to Charles ‘lose it’ laughing today, and the level of clever/funny in juxtaposition to the really great guests, it reminded me of the great days of yore. The show is back, y’all. Different, to be sure, but, IMHO, on the road to be better than the original. Anybody going to the Boston Show? Or the Rob and Tony appearances? We need to live vicariously through your good fortune! Hope Bernie’s got a Cardinal for Monday… ‘If yer Iiiiimus…get out of me parlorrrrrr.’
Well the Titanic is finally sinking. No, I am not talking about Don Imus but Tucker Carlson.
As of yesterday his show at 6PM ET is gone. Good.

Bruce,
I think the Clinton Campaign Machine is the one who introduced the Pastor rants to the Newscycle this is old news – STALE being treated like it is NEW? Not so, he retired a year ago…so why is the timing so important to saturate the MSM with this video clip of his rants? What are they 30 seconds or so? Clinton’s campaign machine, trying to throw off Obama’s momentum,(Obama had just won Mississippi and the Texas Caucus remember delegates) incredible that they always use racism..in this case if it hasn’t worked on the white voting public yet so lets (scare the white people) With some old footage of Obama’s Pastor. They are trying to get Obama to go on the defense and stop his positive message. If he is smart he won’t fall for this trap. He came out denounced, rejected, whatever adjective you like, Rev Wright’s outrageous rants. This is just gutter politics. The Message we are supposed to respond to: Obama and Rev Wright, Guilt by Association. Imus stated how many times? The Clintons will do anything to win, they have no bottom.
I am an Independent if anyone doesn’t have a dog in this race it is me. I wanted Joe Biden on the Dem side and Duncan Hunter on the Rep side. I reviewed, McCain Resurrected, and this is my take on “Pastor Gate” I call em, like I see em.
Bruce, do you know (the date) for this present video clip (Rev Wright Rants) the MSM is using and the length? Is it a 30 second soundbite of Rev Wright’s greatest Rants? It would seem to me that some of it would have to be spliced together they are not just using one sermon? It had to be after 911 how soon after 911 did this video appear, I know it isn’t new.
Laree,
Today’s N.Y. Times has an article on Mr. Wright and his speeches, etc. It’s here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/15/us/politics/15wright.html?ref=todayspaper
I’m not sure which video clip you’re referring to above, but according to the N.Y. Times, the commonly quoted one was given right after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Also, the article says Mr. Wright, 66, retired last month.
It also says Obama distanced himself from Mr. Wright a year ago. Obama also “uninvited” him to give a speech at the event where Obama announced his presidential bid.
Alison
I agree with Ginger that “something must be done” to make health care insurance and access to medicine affordable and available to the broadest range of citizens. My children have access to benefits now because of me, but what will happen to them when I am no longer able to do that? It’s not just a matter of getting a good job anymore. Jobs-with-benefits are almost a thing of the past. We figured out how to send a man to the moon; making health care available should not be rocket science. We only need the Will…then we’ll find the Way.
P.S. Ginger, maybe we’ll meet at the Window!
Alison,
There is a video clip being used where Rev Wright is making his famous God Damn American pronouncement, and the other soundbites that are in the newscycle the 911 comments America’s chickens are coming home. I have seen it myself played over and over and over again. I will see if I can find the clip on Fox News or youtube so people can have a look for themselves of what I am referring to.
I was listening to Obama last night rejecting and renouncing, denouncing whatever…he stated I love my country, I do not agree with these statements. Why is this happening Now? This isn’t new.
This is the link to Fox news up in the right hand corner is Inflamatory and Appalling, you can look at all the videos. They only have recent for the date of Rev Wright ranting about Hillary you don’t know what it is like to be a black man in America you have never been called a (epithet) I want to know about the video clips because it looks like they have been spliced together from many of Rev Wrights different rants to make them look continious I could be wrong but I don’t think they are all from the same date and time period.
This also has video of Obama’s denouncing and rejecting these rants, video.
http://www.foxnews.com/
Laree, I saw that clip also yesterday. It must have been on YouTube. I think that’s the one the NY Times is referring to. I’d try to find it again, but I have to go out now and won’t be back until late this aft. I thought the video was not as bad as some people are saying, if you see the whole thing, not just snippets. We Imus fans all know how you can distort things if you take them out of context.
Ree,
I agree and felt this way about the rants by this Pastor Wright.
The Clintons had someone or took a feed from his Church when Obama was not attending. They are not pure and thus must do everything in their power to derail the Obama campaign.
She know’s she is losing. The Clinton’s have a powerful machine that can gather this garbage from every source to destroy others.
Wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they did not pay this Paster to say these blasphemous statements for the camera’s to make Barack Obama look like a person who believed that America was Damned by God.
If I had been a member in the congregation and my minister said something like that, I would get up and get out quickly. That is not something a normal minister says.
Frankly speaking this Pastor should be condemned by his congregation and removed by the elders. He is not a servant of God. He is the devil himself.
This is the problem in America in my opinion. Anyone can say anything about anyone without Government’s intervention. The separation of Church and State plus the 1st amendment is the law.
And when his time comes to stand before the gates of heaven he will be sent down to Hell along with Hillary and Bill. Again these are my opinions only.
Understand the Rev Wright video clips were assembled from Worship Services DVDs.
This is pretty typical of most political controversies. The issue stays in the background and then something or someone moves it to the front. Believe the Wright controversy was moved to the front by the SNL satirical representation of the press as being easy on Barack over the past several weeks.
Says a lot about Barrack that he could be a member of the Trinity United Church and be “tone deaf” to Rev Wright’s radical sermons. I suppose the nation has now entered the “race discussion” will see where it goes….
ChannelX,
I don’t want to over react but this could be a “barn burner” for the Democrat Party. There is old saying about people who play with fire get burned. This is turning into one of the most interesting Presidential contest in my memory. This same discussion is going on Imus Truth…what do you believe, when you know you are being manipulated? I guess you wait till it all shakes out Obama is speaking at a townhall meeting in Indiana, they say he may address this issue of Rev Wright’s controversial rants.
Well you all have been waiting for this. The “Charles” loses it segment.

The Democrats once again (apparently) begin to prove they’re not ready for prime time.
It’s time for everyone to beginning practicing this next phrase …”my friends …I present to you President-elect John McCain”.
Not an endorsement …just reality …I hope he brushes up on economics …and I hope he’s right about Iraq.
Once again, repeat after me …”my friends …I present to you President-elect John McCain”.
William Kristol is a leading Neocon who helped mix the kool-aid with Cheney & Bush. McCain is carrying it abroad. Period.
McCain aint no friend to me.
You sure about that stdomsgirl? I think he’s Irish.

Isn’t it ironic that folks are willing to say that Obama’s pastor’s words are being taken out of context and that we must look at all of the good things that his church has done for the community? Sharpton said something to the effect that we should not judge the pastor by a couple of sound bytes. Wow……….Maybe, they should have given Imus the same benefit of the doubt. What say you?
Although the English have now departed from part of Ireland, the Wild Geese continue to fly. As Thomas O’Hanlon said in his book The Irish (1975): “The Irish are citizens of the world. When the time is propitious, they migrate with the natural instincts of wild geese, travelling ancient routes to Boston, London, Vancouver or Sydney.” But wherever they travel, and no matter how long they have been away, whenever a few gather together, like Festus Conroy, the talk always turns to talk of home.
(written by James Conroy & originally printed in 1985)
On a Wing and a Prayer! The Wild Geese, better known as “The Fighting Irish” The Irish have fought everyone else’s Wars. I suppose it is true, what they say about the Irish we are always looking for a fight, well we certainly won’t walk away from one
The Irish have been exiled from Ireland in waves for centurys, starting with the Flight of the Earls, “The tuber famine” back in the mid 1800s, was just adding insult to injury.

Lough Ree. Formed by the waters of the River Shannon above Athlone , Lough Ree lies between counties Roscommon, Longford, and Westmeath, 16 miles long and from 1 to 7 miles wide. The story of Lough Ree’s formation duplicates that of Lough Neagh , with some substitutions. Eochu mac Maireda (sometimes called Ecca) had fallen in love with his stepmother, Ébliu (2) , and together with his brother Ríb planned to form a new kingdom. Ironically it was MMFA in their zeal to monitor the media for right wing bias and Al Sharpton in his race baiting zeal who set this off. ( Note: Rev Wright is often referred to as “Chicago’s Sharpton”). Not so surprising that the left cannot live up to their standards, since the bar was set so high back in April.
This is a true paradox! One which Obama his followers and ultimately the Democratic Party must live with.
I mean Obama didn’t give the I-Man the benefit of the doubt at all. Even compaired the Rutgers situation to Virginia Tech situation……Karma is something isn’t it?
Yep HQ, thinking the same exact thing this morning. Heard Roland Martin (same guy that called Juan Williams “happy Negro”) say on CNN re: Rev Wright that as a journalist he had to look at the full context, what came before, what came after, in order to make a judgment.

Lots of interesting points there. If you’re looking for the rebel position, it’s this side. http://iraqi4mccain.blogspot.com/
Definitely feels the Imus incident “prepped the media landscape” for this campaign, right? What do you guys think?
Everything’s alright with Rev. Al.

The course that McCain/Bush/Neocons wants to stay has caused the American Ship of State has run aground.
Iraq is folly ~an American tragedy caused by the Republican Bush/McCain/Neocons. They are loving it.
Linking Bush with McCain simply echoing Democrat talking points. Truth is, McCain has always been his own person and he has never been confused as a NeoCon…
Hey Keith I feel the same way. The SAME people who dished it out on Imus are the SAME people who are supporting Pastor Wright. They are screaming for the very SAME things that we asked for back in April—–(1) Read the CONTEXT of the WHOLE statement (2) Look at all of the GOOD things he’s done during the past years. I wish Imus could comment on this double standard, but he can’t. Sharpton and Media Matters are watching. It’s ironic that he is being monitored by folks who don’t even listen to his show!
McCain is what he is. He is joined – politically speaking – at the hip with Cheney/Bush. I will NEVER vote for him. Period.
As Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton barnstorms across the nation in her quest for the White House, is she doing the Democratic Party more harm than good, and in fact, really helping the GOP?
Newsmax Magazine’s special report “She Can Save the GOP” reveals why Clinton could be the ideal Democratic candidate — IF Republicans hope to retain control of the White House. The report also reveals why some top Democrats desperately want to dump her from the ’08 ticket.
Dick Morris has some astonishing insights gleaned from knowing Hillary for almost 30 years — many of which he served as her chief adviser and confidante. Morris explains Hillary’s “fatal flaw” — one Republicans must exploit to defeat her.

Just keep Satan and BJ Bill out of the oval office. No matter what they said about how well the economy was in the 90’s it is called a cycle.
And don’t blame Bush for these Oil prices. Historically we have been paying less per gallon of gas and the adjustment was inevitable.
If the Oil Companies and the environmentalists got off their duffs and built new Refineries and were allowed to use the oil available to us, we would not need the Arab’s.
And I disagree with Imus not being able to say anything about the nut Reverend. And if I had a Million Dollars I would bet anyone this was conceived by HRC. And knew about it for a long time. Funny how it comes out before the next big Primary in Pennsylvania.

Any good stuff from the I-Man this morning?
Wright? Did they do a cardinal?
No Cardinal Keith.
But Tony and Karith did well. Pigfeet Dupree was pretty funny.
And the I-Man did the whole 4 hours live.

Obama is just so full of himself….
“but I would also say that there’s nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group.”
Does this seem a little hypocritical to anyone, after recent events?
Senator Obama will be giving “a speech on race” tomorrow. I’ll listen. I’ll try not to be too judgmental. I was taught that was wrong (something in the Bible about not judging others …I forgot how it goes exactly …so did the Senator, it seems …and maybe, also, his Pastor).
But I will listen, closely.
Harley,
In reading the link regarding Obama I came across this.
The relevant part of ye olde SupportImus.org:
Here’s Obama’s statement at the time:
I’m starting to lose track of which principle is in play, but if Obama’s going to be consistent with himself, seems like Rev Wright is definitely engaged in “verbal violence.”

Governor Paterson stay away from the darkside (Days Inn)…Luke I am your father…sorry ever since the announcement about his infidelity, I have all this kind of running dialog -running through my head.
She said, “I’ve never done this kind of thing before, have you?
He said, “Yes, I have, but only a time or two.”
“I’ll even tell you I love if you want me to.”
Ree — That’s right, it was Motel 6 about leaving the light on.
God help us all.
In reference to the new Governor of NY’s affair and his wife doing the same.
It is my opinion that no marriage is perfect. In saying that as long as Governor Patterson (who is legally blind) had marriage troubles in 1999 and did not use State money, it is none of anyone’s business.
If anyone feels they have the perfect marriage and have never had problems or temptations, please raise your hand.
Oh, I think he should get a medal.
I guess I’m the only one who thinks there is a good amount of humor to be found in the fact they went to Day’s Inn.
Oh Bella I do not disagree with you on the humor aspect at all.
And also believe his honesty about it is refreshing.
Just wondering why the media would take so much interest in it. It is not a scandal like the Spitzer situation.
Guess I was being too serious.
Well since the last comment was on at 12:56 P.M., my guess is many of you have had a chance to hear Barack Obama on Rev. Wright. It’s quiet in here…crickets are chirping…
This episode only proves one thing to me: the latent and continuous racist attitudes that prevail, and continue in America today.
Imus made me proud on his first day back after being fired by his introductory speech.
Obama has done the same for me today.
Reminds me of the song “American Tune” by Paul Simon.
Many’s the time I’ve been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I’ve often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I’m all right, I’m all right
I’m just weary to my bones
Still, you don’t expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home
And I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered
I don’t have a friend who feels at ease
I don’t know a dream that’s not been shattered
or driven to its knees
but it’s all right, it’s all right
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
road we’re traveling on
I wonder what’s gone wrong
I can’t help it, I wonder what’s gone wrong
And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying
We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age’s most uncertain hours
and sing an American tune
Oh, and it’s alright, it’s all right, it’s all right
You can’t be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow’s going to be another working day
And I’m trying to get some rest
That’s all I’m trying to get some rest
AH! The ’sterling’ character of Donaldinks – Thank-you for being the good & kind person that you are – sensible too!
I’m slowly giving up my soap operas. Hell, I don’t really need them anymore. The news is giving me my fix. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Ginger,
Ain’t that the truth, I remember they said, the now Governor of New York, was trying to squelch love child rumors? Gives new meaning to Maid/Made in America
I really wonder what is in the water in New York?
I can see how it could have happened btw Gov Paterson and his wife, you know you get busy, there are snaffus, you have scheduling conflicts, you end up at the nearest Days Inn…..Your Not my husband! Your Not my wife! look I only have 20 minutes, the meters running are we going to do some horizontal congressing or what LOL.
At least none of these folks got stuck in a Hilton! I can keep these lodging jokes up all day!
Thought Obama’s speech was pretty obvious.
Okay, now that we’re all unified, what are the principles that will defend liberty and take this country and all it’s people, whatever their race, gender, or age, forward?
Also did not appreciate Obama’s insinuation that the only reason to vote for John McCain is if you’re a white man.
But an important speech for those who are still catching up!
Barack Obama always makes a great speech. That’s his forte, isn’t it?
Ree,
Re: The governors of New York and their escapades– “you just can’t make it up”!
I almost forgot this is a McCain site – It used to be an Imus site.
It sure ain’t a hillary site.. LOL
Imus is voted for McCain in 2000 and is supporting McCain for 2008. Does that imply that Imus would not be welcome?
anybody else notice how Obama’s eyes dart back and forth, almost every sentence? Always the same rhythms.
It’s the teleprompters.
This is my Opinion so don’t get angry.
If Hillary steals the Dem nomination from Obama, that would be really offensive!
Also offensive how people keep attacking McCain’s age. That’s an ageist attack. People get all self-righteous defending against sexism and racism, unless it’s against white men.
Then they laugh like crazy when someone makes jokes about old age? I thought respect for one’s elders and the wisdom of life’s experiences were core values.
File next to: Imus had more to teach Debra Dickerson than she had to teach him.
“I almost forgot this is a McCain site – It used to be an Imus site.”
Imus in the Morning is at it’s best when the morning conversation is passionate, topical, informed and just a little irreverent. The Cardinal, C. Ray Nagin, Hulk Hogan and all the other characters are all good, excellent even …but I listen mainly for that conversation.
It’s why I keep coming back to this site, I think. The conversation just seems to continue …most of the time, anyway. So, maybe, it REALLY is an Imus site …and, yes, sour grapes are sometimes part of IITM, too.
I listened to Sen. Obama this morning. It was a very good speech.
What took him so long? Why did he finally admit hearing his pastors words after denying it more than once? Just a couple of random thoughts …I still need time, I guess, to figure him out.
Debra Dickerson appeared with Katie Couric this evening…perhaps a preview of her interview with Imus scheduled tomorrow? My words here not hers, but I think she means to say it’s time for polemical black pastors to recognize being consumed with rage is counter-productive, and hurts black self-image more than it helps. She predicts they will begin to see it now and move away from divisive rhetoric.
It wasn’t the only point she made, but it jumped out at me because it’s consistent with my program philosophy that “Resentment is drinking poison and expecting someone else to die.”
Who the hell cares WHO Imus voted for? Not me -
lol
MY OWN vote is the only one that matters to me. Lol
Someone noticed Obama’s duplicity…..
Before Wright Firestorm, Obama Called for Imus
Firing
Here is Obama speaking with David Gregory on MSNBC regarding Imus Click Here
Hate to break it to you stdomsgirl, but SupportImus.org was a pro-McCain site to the core, literally.
Where’s that article, ChanX?
Barack Obama speaks with the tongues of angels, but I’m sorry I just don’t buy it. His actions speak louder than his beautiful words.
20 years in the midst of this hate filled atmosphere? It just doesn’t add up.
And yes, this is for the most part, a McCain site, as is the leaning of Don Imus, but it’s still America, and as on the Imus show itself, others who disagree can voice their opinions.
Ya know, I don’t want McCain to be the president but I don’t call him rotten and every other put-down I could possibly think of to berate him.
You want me to be careful how I disagree with you, Bruce. Okay, this is my way of being careful.
If supporters of Obama or Hillary could make a cohesive argument that would broaden the discussion.

Here is the article…
BEFORE WRIGHT FIRESTORM, OBAMA CALLED FOR IMUS FIRING | CLICK HERE
I actually thought Obama’s speech was pretty weak.
His response to Wright’s deep hatred, lies, and racism, the speech, in a nutshell, was “Yeah, well you’re all racists, too.”
He made the whole election about race, and race is merely one of the many issues we face.
Funny “Spring Cleaning” video by Craig Crawford on his “CQ Blog (Craig Crawford’s Trail Mix).
“Springtime with Obama”: Imus will have a bone to pick with Craig for using Formula 409, not GTL All-Purpose, to clean his sink!
…and so’s you’re grandmother.
Sorry, that was supposed to be GTC – Greening the Cleaning
Craig also posted his own comment that every time Imus gets a new show, we have to change coffeemakers. lol
Awwwright! Liberal insanity finally reaches critical mass:
No one is saying a Pastor can’t say whatever he wants. The point is that it’s such a politically damaging association that Obama needs to respond or enough voters won’t support him.
http://voices.kansascity.com/node/729
Well, to be more specific, I think the speech said mostly good things, that some needed to hear to move forward.
That’s for sure. In that sense, it was a great speech.
But as for defending the sorts of principles we’ve been standing for since last April, the things many think make America great(and the ongoing journey toward realizing our ideals), it was preaching to the converted about an imagined enemy(ie. vicious racists like Don Imus & Rush Limbaugh), that Rev Wright’s diatribes are justified in the face of such an enemy.
So I think it moves us backward, not forward, if he becomes president.
Before we all get our noses out of joint about Barack and the Reverend Wright let’s think about it carefully.
If I was a member of a predominantly White Church, and every Sunday this Minister preached hatred towards Blacks, The United States, The Jews and all things that make America the greatest Country in the World. I would never go back.
But if I had been going to this Church for 20 plus years and only a few times he said things out of line with the Teachings of God I wouldn’t throw him under the bus. And if he was the one who conducted my Marriage ceremony, Baptized my two Children, and in my presence never preached his hatred personally to me again I couldn’t consider him hateful. Just a little off the track of a true Minister, Priest or Rabbi teachings of God.
Barack Obama’s speech cleared the air, but it wasn’t equal to an Abraham Lincoln speech as Chris Matthews said. And the New York Times agrees with him (Barack) that he has now opened a new level in race relations.
Remember what we saw was from 2003. Who knows what Wright said in a normal Sunday sermon. Of course he is talking to a predominantly Black congregation. And things are not right with race relations still in the year 2008.
America must not continue with this hatred between Blacks, Whites and Hispanics.
I rest my case. McCain get’s my vote. But if Barack Obama becomes the nominee of the Democratic Party and shows some guts and talks a better fight than McCain it is a coin toss.
Quickly on Hillary. If she does steal this nomination it will be the biggest scandal in American Politics. And then no matter who the nominee was for the opposite Party I would vote for them. Even Ron Paul. OMG.
Well said, Bruce!
Morning after take on Obama’s speech? More Nixon’s “Checkers” then King’s “I Have A Dream”
Nixon admitted to receiving $18K in illegal campaign contributions including a dog his daughter named Checkers. Nixon which he refused to return. Obama admitting to sitting in the pew when Rev Wright delivered controversial remarks, adamantly refusing to leave the congregation.
The disturbing thing about Sen. Obama is that given a quick superficial “look”, he sounds and looks good, real good in fact.
But when you learn more, listen closer, and give his words and actions some thought …it just doesn’t quite add up the way you want it to. Does the word disingenuous apply?
Barack Obama will never be President of the United States.
We have learned that he defends and probably agrees with what his preacher says. We as whites did not realize how much we are hated by blacks and derided among them in their private conversations. Since whites do not hate blacks and do not spend time talking about how bad they are, that surprises me and hurts me.
And so the problem with Jeremiah Wright is that he is teaching a whole new generation to hate as he does.
I haven’t been this upset in a while, but the lines have been drawn. Because you can bet this discussion about race is not to address the hatred of people like Wright and his congregation, but to put the blame on whites and cause us to once again beat our breasts with pain and guilt.
I am very upset and didn’t sleep much last night. And if Imus keeps praising Obama, I’m going to turn on him.
This is no joke. This is no laughing matter.
“Since whites do not hate blacks and do not spend time talking about how bad they are…”
Sorry …but that doesn’t hold water either. I know plenty of people, unfortunately, that prove you wrong on that one everyday.
It IS what the Sharptons, the Jacksons, the Farrakhans and the Wrights feed off of …it is what allows them to join the club of haters and to prosper …for their own benefit and no one else’s.
Sen. Obama seems, to me, to be too comfortable with them.
Mike, I should have said those I come in contact with.
How many of you attended segregated schools? That’s how old I am and in my life I have never heard so much hatred, particularly from the pulpit. It is just NOT acceptable.
If in 2008 this is being preached in black churches that is a big problem. So let’s just be real. Obama pretty much defended Wright and as much as said that he speaks and feels as he does against America and whites because he has had a hard life.
I have been chomping at the bit for the Spitzer thread to wrap up, and for an Obama- Reverend Wright headline to be posted. However, if the thread-head posted is Dr. Dickerson instead of Reverend Wright, it will not only have been worth the wait, it will be the best-rightest-and-wisest thing Imus Times could have done.
Everything about the Debra Dickerson interview was once again brilliant. I’m looking forward to the follow-up. Imus didn’t make this circumstance, but he is making the best use of it to fulfill the agenda he set out December 3.
Sorry for the crickets guys…………..I’ve been busy getting my students ready for the BIG test! Thanks to No Child Left Behind!
Channel that’s a GREAT article! It needs to be spread! I’m glad I’m not the ONLY one who thought that way! They were so hard on Imus, but excuses are mad for Rev. Wright! What gives? Gotta go to breakfast duty. Will let yall know how I feel about THE speech and the situation later……………..
HQ – Imus shocked me this morning when he compared his joke last April to Rev Wrights Sermons. Was expecting the I-Man to sort of two-step around the hypocrisy! Didn’t think Imus had it in him. Way to go Iman…
In my minds eye there is a scene of hard core political operatives sitting in a boiler room somewhere. They are drawing up scenarios on how Obama recovers from “Rev Wrights – Best Of”. This team of sausage makers are pouring over archived speeches filed under “Greatest Political Recoveries”. Of course the “Checkers Speech” is right on top. Premise: candidate caught with hand in cookie jar, admits it, claims honorable intentions, then offers up family member for sympathy.
Perfect template! Obama more likeable then Nixon. Great political theater. Pundits are equating the speech to “I Have A Dream”. Although history may record it as “I Saved My Butt!
Harley,
Rev Jeremiah Wright was correct about one thing Chickens do come home and their position on Imus’s firing, those chickens are coming home. What happens when you buy into the Politically Correct discourse, we were told, it was all about raising the civility back to the air waves…guess what this is a Republic- a Democracy. I’ll decide for myself how I like my discourse…wheres Tony at this point (how I like my discourse) he usually has one of those coffee analogies. How do I like my discourse, well Bernard McGuirk was pretty good at starting the conversation with any number of his personas. Rob is doing his best, he said all the things, I have been thinking via Bill Clinton persona today…now that’s the kind of discourse I’m talking about Hillbilly Style
I thought they were all on the money this morning by the way. I thought Karith’s take on expensive hookers and Tony’s Paul Harvey message to Imus and McCord, was laugh out loud..mind your own business bitches.
Hey Channel, what has Imus been saying about this situation? Glad to hear that he is NOT sucking up! You should send that article over to the I-Man. I will sent it if I get time.
ChannelX, Keith,
That speech Obama gave was to raise the ante on the Clintons, the message was, okay you want to make it about Race lets go. He just isn’t going to take it into the gutter, where I believe the Clintons keep inviting him
The Clintons may stop and swat at the media, like targeting Imus, Shoester, Hillary’s victim message, she doesn’t get fair treatment by the MSM ect…but Obama knows who he is running against not the media, and that speech was Obama’s serve to the Clintons, I will talk about Race but I am raising up the discourse. I think it was more then unforunate that he choose his Grandmother to use as an example for comparrison, that was weak, you protect the women in your family, you don’t expoilt them, even if they give you permission, you find another way to stress your point.
Frec, This is so true.
“Resentment is drinking poison and expecting someone else to die.”
Yes, I would agree that KARMA is biting Obama BIG time. The chickens are coming to roost on the PC police big time! Rev. AL, Fat AL, JESSIE, etc. set the bar pretty high back in April.
Not everyone is buying into the obama moment…
“The Flim-Flam Man”
Norman Horowitz
At some point over the weekend those guys in the boiler room realized the Secret Service has logs of Obama’s attendance at Rev Wrights sermons. Only a matter of time before the lies would be exposed. So they said “be proactive”, get in front of the news cycle. The guys in carpet land looking at the polls realized HRC is regaining momentum, sensed something needed to be done, and said“be proactive”.
Hence, “The I Have A Hater Speech”
This is a link to discuss the narrowing of the polls, this is what it is all about, you have to keep your eye on the ball, it is easy to be distracted. I am not apologizing for Obama or Rev Wright, I think I have two problems, one is the God Damn America remark and Obama using his Grandmother as an example of what in his speech ??? an older white woman’s fears, from how many years ago? Obama’s mother’s mother, I would expect him to be protective of his Grandmother. The example at your finger tips may be handy but he should have reached out a little further for a comparrison.
http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN1824791220080319?feedType=RSS&feedName=politicsNews&rpc=22&sp=true
There is stuff Rev Wright said, that I can see-hear, being repeated any number of places but if you are identifying yourself as African Centric and then you proclaim God Damn America. Well it is, what it is!
ChanX,
Thanks for that “stretch of a comparison.” I have a keen interest in the Checkers speech. The truly-brilliant political move by Nixon in the Checkers speech was to invite Americans to write-in their “vote” on whether he should stay on the Republican ticket. Telegraphs poured in by the hundreds of thousands, overwhelmingly in favor of Nixon. A Nixon Library employee told me last October she was working for months to catalog every letter and telegram for the archives, and she wasn’t sure when they’d be done there were so many.
Obama’s speech rises to a higher level than the crass political-maneuvering of “Checkers.” He didn’t solicit responses though, in this high tech era, e-mails are likely flooding in. Nixon didn’t have to wait long for the tally on how Americans received his speech. We’ll have to wait for Obama’s results to show up in the remaining primary elections.
There’s one part of the speech that has been overlooked in my opinion. Sen Obama did acknowledge that discussion needs to be had on both sides. It’s the first time I’ve heard anyone say that both sides have concerns and both sides have a right to be involved in the discussion.
This is the discussion that Imus has started. This is the discussion I’ve been waiting for my whole life. This is the only way we can make America great. By highlighting our grievances and working through them on both sides.
Not by denigrating either side’s arguments. We cannot have this discussion as “I’m right you’re wrong” but as “How do we right wrongs?”. We need to move past the Win/Lose paradigm to a Win/Win for all Americans.
To me the real questions in this election cycle are not the grey areas or racial politics but the very real green areas of “economic politics” or as Senor Obama said yesterday…
Do not take this as an endorsement for Senator Obama, but I will say this, at least he’s talking about these issues and as I always say “If talk is cheap why don’t we do more of it?”
The whole episode is so formulaic. Right out of the “Political Operative Handbook”, even throwing in the “Checkers Gambit – When All Else Fails” was a classic.
Obama’s grandmother going under the bus was a sacrifice to his base. Surely this “Isaac moment” was not meant for Hillary’s base or McCain’s base to provide a further understanding or create a broader dialogue on race.

Obama has downplayed Wright for Wright’s insensitive remarks, saying he has done good work with the poor and AIDS victims. Yet Obama did not afford the same respect to Imus, who has devoted considerable energy to helping children with cancer, wounded war veterans, and others.
http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/obama_wright_imus/2008/03/19/81557.html
I need the e-mails to RFD-TV and WABC. Imus’ folks should see this. KARMA
When Don Imus uttered his infamous slur on the radio last year, Obama cut him no slack. Imus should be fired, he said. “There’s nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group.”
When it came to Wright, however, he wasn’t nearly so categorical. Oh, he’s “like an old uncle who says things I don’t always agree with,” Obama indulgently explained to one interviewer. He’s just “trying to be provocative,” he told another.” Far from severing his ties to Wright, Obama made him a member of his Religious Leadership Committee — a tie he finally cut only four days ago.”
Such a clanging double standard raises doubts about Obama’s character and judgment, and about his fitness for the role of race-transcending healer. Yesterday’s speech was finely crafted, but it leaves some troubling questions unanswered.
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/03/19/its_still_a_question_of_wright_and_wrong/
I see Obama’s “Grandma story” misinterpreted in pursuit of an irresistible joke. The analogy meant to say Obama could no more throw Reverend Wright under the bus than he could his beloved grandmother who he once or twice heard say ugly things. He loves her no less in spite of it. He can extend the benefit of “context” to her because he knows the whole person. It takes that level of closeness to appreciate an individual beyond a decontextualized event.
In effect, that’s why we Imus stalwarts were practically the only ones who could see the big picture last Spring. We were the only group equipped with daily experience of the full person.
Frec,
It’s his grandmother I would expect him to be protective of all the women in his family not expoilt a comment she made to him and not in public. This looks mercenary to me. Save excuse the highly volitile non blood related uncle but nanna is family so she’s fair game? If he is comparing one to the other to show his depth of commitment to both, it didn’t work on me.
I agree with PT (where have you been by the way). Sen. Obama said things in his speech that were long overdue and needed to be said by someone, anyone.
But why did he wait until now? Why not a year ago …two years ago? Is it because his butt wasn’t in a sling at the time? And why try to minimize the destructive and dishonest nature of the words used by his “mentor and friend”? That man wasn’t trying to tell a joke when he said those things. Why didn’t he tell his “friend” to his face at the time that he said those things how wrong he was. That old uncle that we supposedly all have didn’t usually have the venue that Rev. Wright had to sow his seeds of …what? Did Sen. Obama buy into his line at the time …and how about now …should we believe him?
Sen. Obama tells us we need a new way of doing business in Washington. But more and more he begins to sound like a …politician?
Imus compared the NHH moment to Rev Wright? Before or after Debra Dickerson? Must have been after Beschloss, right?
Imus mentioned it several times today. Best discusion was after 9am. Imus was stated he was telling a joke made the point that Rev Wrights comments were much worse.
Laree: was that you on Hannity’s Radio Show last week?
Good to see you guys & girls again. Went back to IT about a month ago…most of you were gone.
How are we doin’ over here?
RICH
No Rich that wasn’t me, I can just see me getting my mic cut off, with me saying and one more thing…..Don’t you think Imus belongs on a Fox Channel
Keith, O’Reilly read a comment in his viewer email last night at the end of his program the Factor it was stating the same comparrison then why not treat Imus the same last April?…I was watching and thought, look people are paying attention, they don’t need anyone to connect the dots for them. This goes back to my point about when people make statements attacks or pointed remarks, people who are listening and watching will compare.
I think there is something to be said about coming late to the topic but Obama has been trying to leave Race behind, he isn’t making it the center of his campaign…wouldn’t bringing up Rev Wright be bringing up the Race issue front and center? Obama trying to run his own campaign and not let the opposition shape his campaign and make it about race. Obama is trying to stay positive. I think that is what Monica Crowley was getting at yesterday, how do you get the Positive Obama to jive with the Obama sitting in the pew listening to this type of ? I call it ranting but it has a name ?challenging sermon?
I can tell you what turned my husband off Rev Wright was a Marine, and when his remark “God Damn America” was played that was all she wrote, if Obama didn’t address that statement when it was uttered, it is too late for him to take a position now.
This is the rassmussen poll only 8% agree with Rev Jeremiah Wright, also if you look at the rassmussen polls it shows that Obama’s negatives went up now 58% wouldn’t vote for Obama compared to 44% before. I believe those are the right numbers if someone has other figures please post.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/people2/just_8_have_favorable_opinion_of_pastor_jeremiah_wright
Have not heard any Marines standing up for Wright, have you? Very odd behavior for a Marine.
ChannelX,
I have not heard a peep from other marines who are serving or served comment on Rev Jeremiah Wright’s comment.
This is a link to the right numbers Obama has a negative of 56% and that includes 44% of Democrats.
http://www.pollster.com/blogs/poll_rasmussen_rev_wright.php
Mr. Obama has now begun blaming the messenger, as if the media had somehow made Rev. Wright’s words more noxious than they actually were. He referred to “snippets” of sermons serving to misdefine a man who deserved a kinder assessment. Well, senator, welcome to the America where people of your race and your politics have foisted such “death by snippet” on undeserving figures from Trent Lott to Don Imus.
http://electionjunkie.com/?p=44
WOW…….KARMA
Marines standing for Wright?
Consider Semper Fi
“Semper fidelis” signifies the dedication and loyalty that individual Marines are expected to have for “Corps and Country” even after leaving service.
The Rev is Obama’s idea of a Marine?
His bio shows:
Military/Wartime Service: U.S. Marine Corps, private first class, 1961-63; U.S. Navy, hospital corpsman third class, 1964-67.
Is it normal for a person to be a Marine for two years and then
switch to the Navy?
He has quite an impressive bio and so I am sure he is more than the snippits, but then so was Imus.
Being a Marine is a Brave Noble and Honorable part of the service to our Country.

Note Karith is sitting next to Bernard at the end of the table. Well Karith is really smart. I thought both Rob and Tony were pretty bawdy on Monday as they should be. I wondered how many people of Irish descent were in the audience?
The above, by the way,…was precipitated by a treasonous act by our standing President…who put our Sons and Daughters of our military in harms way…by exclaiming that Iraq was an IMMINENT THREAT to our Country…which, in fact…was a lie.
Donald Inks,
They call Afghanistan’ the Soviet’s Vietnam’ the war was draining the Soviet’s treasure. It is why I stated before when I made reference to how Obama wanted to fight these wars. The players in the middle the east are playing three demensional chess. Obama wants to play whack em all. There is a reason why we don’t have a larger footprint in Afghanistan, we have learned from the Soviet’s mistakes.
Would the Iraqis like to see us pull out and take our treasure with us? They already have found oil money that is missing from their own government- they called it fraud, they think it might be funding the insurgency.

Laree..
We learned NOTHING from the Soviets mistakes. The VERY same mistake…and it bit us in the ass…
From Wickpedia:
The best-known mujahideen, various loosely-aligned Afghan opposition groups, initially fought against the incumbent pro-Soviet Afghan government during the late 1970s. At the Afghan government’s request, the Soviet Union became involved in the war. The mujahideen insurgency then fought against the Soviet and Afghan government troops during the Soviet war in Afghanistan. After the Soviet Union pulled out of the conflict in the late 1980s the mujahideen fought each other in the subsequent Afghan Civil War.
The mujahideen were significantly financed and armed (and are alleged to have been trained) by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during the Carter and Reagan administrations and the governments of Saudi Arabia, the People’s Republic of China, several European countries, Iran, and Zia-ul-Haq’s military regime in Pakistan. The Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was the interagent used in the majority of these activities to disguise the sources of support for the resistance.
Ronald Reagan praised them as “freedom fighters”, and three mainstream films, 1987 The Living Daylights, 1988 Rambo III and 2007 Charlie Wilson’s War, portrayed them as heroic.
Afghanistan’s resistance movement was born in chaos and, at first, virtually all of its war was waged locally by regional warlords. As warfare became more sophisticated, outside support and regional coordination grew. Even so, the basic units of mujahideen organization and action continued to reflect the highly segmented nature of Afghan society.[2] Eventually, the seven main mujahideen parties allied themselves into the political bloc called Islamic Unity of Afghanistan Mujahideen.
Many Muslims from other countries volunteered to assist various mujahideen groups in Afghanistan, and gained significant experience in guerrilla warfare. Some groups of these veterans have been significant factors in more recent conflicts in and around the Muslim world. A wealthy Saudi named Osama bin Laden was a prominent organizer and financier of an all Arab islamist group of foreign volunteers; his Maktab al-Khadamat funnelled money, arms, and Muslim fighters from around the muslim world into Afghanistan, with the assistance and support of the Saudi and Pakistani governments.[3] These foreign fighters became known as “Afghan Arabs” and their efforts were coordinated by Abdullah Yusuf Azzam.
The mujahideen won when the Soviet Union pulled troops out of Afghanistan in 1989, followed by the fall of the Mohammad Najibullah regime in 1992. However, the mujahideen did not establish a united government, and many of the larger mujahideen groups began to fight each other over the power in Kabul. After several years of devastating infighting, a village mullah organized a new armed movement with the backing of Pakistan. This movement became known as the Taliban, meaning “students”, and referring to the Saudi-backed religious schools known for producing extremism. Veteran mujahideen were confronted by this radical splinter group in 1996.
By 2001, the Taliban, with backing from the Pakistani ISI (military intelligence) and possibly even the regular Pakistan Army, as well as al-Qaeda which found a refuge in Afghanistan, had largely defeated the militias and controlled most of the country. The opposition factions allied themselves together again and became known as the United Islamic Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan (Northern Alliance). In 2001 with U.S. help and international military aid, they ousted the Taliban from power and formed the new government, and gradually militias were either incorporated into the new national army and police forces or demobilized.
At present the term “mujahideen” is sometimes used to describe insurgents, including the Taliban/Al Qaeda, fighting NATO troops and the security forces of the US-backed government of Hamid Karzai and allied militias in Afghanistan, although most of the Mujahideen leaders who fought the Soviet Union later fought against the Taliban.
Read the above quote from Wickpedia VERY carefully…

“with the assistance and support of the Saudi and Pakistani governments.”
…and WHO are our ALLIES?
Bella,
It would not have been extraordinary for Wright to have served a two year stint in the Marines and then sign up with the Navy. The Navy provides medical support to the Marines including battlefield medical support.
It is an unfortunate truth, that our Country…during and after the cold war with the Soviets…(as opposed to fighting them outright), contracted with, supplied, and supported many regimes and despicable people to further that agenda…and now…we are seeing some of that coming back at us. It was NO different when we sided with Saddam Husein and Iraq…in their war against Iran.
By the way, WE gave Saddam those “weapons of mass destruction” to use against Iran (under the guise of scientific cooperation).
Thanks, ChanX.
Barack Obama is a fraud and he will never be President of the United States.
His argument that he was against the war is bogus because he was not in a position to vote on the issue. He really didn’t have to make a decision. It was easy for him to say he was against it. He’s very clever.
According to a New York Times article in August, 2002, Col. Walter P. Lang, a senior defense intelligence officer at the time, explained that D.I.A. and C.I.A. officials “were desperate to make sure that Iraq did not lose” to Iran. “The use of gas on the battlefield by the Iraqis was not a matter of deep strategic concern,” he said. One veteran said, that the Pentagon “wasn’t so horrified by Iraq’s use of gas.” “It was just another way of killing people _ whether with a bullet or phosgene, it didn’t make any difference.”
Donald,
That’s a lot of numbers! After 5 years of war I would suppose there would be a lot of numbers. Missing from those numbers? Out of 5,188: global terrorist incidents not a single incident has occured in the US.
Here is your REAL connection and to Iraq And Afghanistan:…OIL:
From the National Security Archives:
During the spring of 1984 the U.S. reconsidered policy for the sale of dual-use equipment to Iraq’s nuclear program, and its “preliminary results favor[ed] expanding such trade to include Iraqi nuclear entities” [Document 57]. Several months later, a Defense Intelligence Agency analysis said that even after the war ended, Iraq was likely to “continue to develop its formidable conventional and chemical capability, and probably pursue nuclear weapons” [Document 58]. (Iraq is situated in a dangerous neighborhood, and Israel had stockpiled a large nuclear weapons arsenal without international censure. Nuclear nonproliferation was not a high priority of the Reagan administration – throughout the 1980s it downplayed Pakistan’s nuclear program, though its intelligence indicated that a weapons capability was being pursued, in order to avert congressionally mandated sanctions. Sanctions would have impeded the administration’s massive military assistance to Pakistan provided in return for its support of the mujahideen fighting the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.)
That’s great Chanx:…if you happen to live here…while other innocent people die elsewhere…
…and close to 4,000 of our troops killed over there in Iraq…better we don’t have to see them die here. Better over there?
Flawed thinking, my friend.
They are still DEAD.
Again: From The National Security Archives:
All about oil:
Following further high-level policy review, Ronald Reagan issued National Security Decision Directive (NSDD) 114, dated November 26, 1983, concerned specifically with U.S. policy toward the Iran-Iraq war. The directive reflects the administration’s priorities: it calls for heightened regional military cooperation to defend oil facilities, and measures to improve U.S. military capabilities in the Persian Gulf, and directs the secretaries of state and defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to take appropriate measures to respond to tensions in the area. It states, “Because of the real and psychological impact of a curtailment in the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf on the international economic system, we must assure our readiness to deal promptly with actions aimed at disrupting that traffic.” It does not mention chemical weapons [Document 26].
Soon thereafter, Donald Rumsfeld (who had served in various positions in the Nixon and Ford administrations, including as President Ford’s defense secretary, and at this time headed the multinational pharmaceutical company G.D. Searle & Co.) was dispatched to the Middle East as a presidential envoy. His December 1983 tour of regional capitals included Baghdad, where he was to establish “direct contact between an envoy of President Reagan and President Saddam Hussein,” while emphasizing “his close relationship” with the president [Document 28]. Rumsfeld met with Saddam, and the two discussed regional issues of mutual interest, shared enmity toward Iran and Syria, and the U.S.’s efforts to find alternative routes to transport Iraq’s oil; its facilities in the Persian Gulf had been shut down by Iran, and Iran’s ally, Syria, had cut off a pipeline that transported Iraqi oil through its territory. Rumsfeld made no reference to chemical weapons, according to detailed notes on the meeting [Document 31].
What’s wrong with oil, Donald? What would we do without it?
I noticed Obama is also talking about the war today, trying to “turn the page” from his disgraceful tactic of turning his big problem of Jeremiah by saying that what he said was understandable because of racism. Now, he was not talking about the racism of Mr. Wright, mind you, but the “racism” of the white race.
The more I think about his speech, the more I can see through his deceit.
US National Security is about the US not about the rest of world. In context of 5,188 global attacks, US National Security interests are well served.
4,OOO US troops have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. I will take exception to the use of those lost lives in some convoluted logic stream, since using those lives in this way fundamentally devalues the sacrifice. These people volunteered and paid the ultimate sacrifice, they are not to be pitied but honored.
Forgetting what I said early yesterday morning, it seems the commenters here have ignored the true facts behind Obama and this off the wall Reverend. Seems we only remember that Obama was first to suggest Imus should be fired for his remarks in April 2007. Yet Imus continues to not condemn this man for his statements. J. Donald Imus took the blame and did not put it in someone elses lap.
And with that he also has a better program without the racial slurs and jokes at the expense of others not able to defend themselves from a position of power.
Thus Imus moves on. And we live in the past as if the old Imus, that we all sometimes laughed with, allowed the show to go on.
Imus awoke to a new day with a new ambition. He is in line with Obama’s feelings about what Obama called a family member. And that he understands where he is coming from. I did. And it was truly inspiring.
Let Hillary Rotten top that one. She is incapable of overcoming the presence of this man. She is too weak in my opinion to Govern this Country because she is in the tank with big Corporations including the Pharmaceutical Companies. A wonderful position to be in with “HER” plan of Universal Health Care. NO NO NO. Not Hillary. Maybe not Barack. Niether served in the armed forces of America. Hillary’s husband didn’t. And Barack missed the wars though may have been able to participate in the first Gulf War in 1991. He would have been around 19 years old. But again we are talking symantics here.
Let us all listen carefully to Barack Obama’s speech before we throw grenades at him for condemning Don Imus. The I-Man didn’t and we should take his lead.
Now News Max has published and article.
http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/obama_wright_imus/2008/03/19/81557.html?s=al&promo_code=478B-1
Who are they for?
Let us not be sheep and be led down the path of BS from HRC and the Media.
Remember Hillary R. Clinton is the Republican’s (McCain) best friend. She cannot defeat John McCain. But Barack can.
I am still with McCain.
Yeah, Obama said some fine stuff. No doubt. It was a magnificent speech, as Imus has said. Historical. No doubt. Imus is taking the high road, as he should. He’s doing exactly what he should do.
We, on the other hand, are focused on the lack of principles Obama is showing. The speech was great. Just limited. It’s like the African-American section is the whole book store. We don’t need him to be president to keep moving the race issue forward. The speech & the discussion do that fine.
I find detestable that his argument was basically, “vote for me or you’re racist.” And by the way, you’re all racists so Rev Wright is almost completely justified in everything he said.
For me, the speech took us back to exactly what was unfair about Imus getting taken off the air. Obama could have led on principle back then. He didn’t. It’s the same situation coming up now, and they’re using all the defenses that didn’t work for Imus. The principle for Obama? Vicious racism is acceptable for blacks. But whites can’t even say certain words. For blacks it’s about context of every kind: historical, the totality of Wright’s contributions, and so on. I’m sick of being defined as “white” by other people’s endlessly justified delusion racism.
The sheep are the one’s swooning for Obama. I’ve lost friends for watching Fox News, hardly sheep-like behavior.
By the way, here’s an outstanding article by Ann Coulter that totally gets it: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=25610
Hey Bruce, as I remember, we also didn’t call a bunch of young college girls NHH’s like Imus did. We’re kind of in a different position, dare I say, a pure one.
To just get in line with Imus would make us…sheep.
But I like where you’ve been going lately. Good stuff!
Donaldinks: the ’sterling’ I-Fan is like a breath of fresh air on this Kool-Aid drinking site – no – not all of us – but many are – they are in ‘lock-step’ with the ‘DECIDER’. UGH! Creepy
