Ree,

Glad you enjoyed it. Just thought they were so magnificent I had to do it.

And with all the Political stuff we have been throwing around it seemed appropriate to give you something that maybe you could use.

Didn't read your entire post. Now I realize that this is a relative of yours.

Also horses of any kind go with Imus in the Morning.

Take care.

PT,

Thanks for your tip on Mary Mac's...what a great place! It's still 1945 there...what a nostalgic trip even if slightly before my time. We had a real stick-to-the ribs Southern style lunch ...my hubby says to tell you thanks...we wouldn't otherwise have known about it.

Your above post is great. You also wrote one a while back about listening to Jean Shepherd on the radio. I'd love to locate that post again - you wrote some good stuff in there as I recall. Did you reconcile with your Dad? Was he doing the best he knew how, or could there have been more...perhaps unanswerable...

oops...gotta go...important meetin' tonight.

Even as Clinton Wins West Virginia, Obama's Magic Number Drops to 143 Delegates -- His Political Stock Rises on News from Mississippi
      Posted May 14, 2008 | 09:08 AM (EST)

Hillary Clinton won an overwhelming victory in West Virginia's Primary last night. But that victory in the heart of her demographic base did nothing to change the fact that the party's nominee will be Barack Obama.

Obama added at least seven new pledged delegates in West Virginia, brining his magic number to clinch the nomination down to 143. After his victory in North Carolina and virtual tie in Indiana, Obama needed 183 more delegates to cross the 2025 majority set by DNC rules. Since then he has gained 40 delegates and now leads Clinton in super delegates by 12 according to RealClearPolitics.com.

Several other key developments:

The schedul for WABC Rewound is out...

6AM - Herb Oscar Anderson, Ron Lundy and Chuck Leonard

7AM - Chuck Dunaway 1961

8AM - Harry Harrison Top 100 of 1975

9AM - Don Imus (WNBC)

10AM - Bob Lewis 1964 (Part 1)

11AM - Bob Lewis 1964 (Part 2)

Noon - Jim Nettleton 1969 Debut

1PM - Chuck Leonard Top 100 1968

2PM - Martin Block/Dan Ingram 1962

3PM - Bruce Morrow 1972, Chuck Leonard 1974

4PM - Bob Lewis on WABC-FM 1968

5PM - Dan Ingram 1963

6PM - Post Rewound Talk Show

These are some of the greatest to ever sit behind a Mic. The two D. I.s (Imus and Ingram) are as responsible for my personality as any body except for Maybe the Marxes (Groucho, Chico, Harpo and Karl).

This is a piece I wrote last year during Rewound...

For the second year in a row I've spent my Memorial day listening to WABC rewound, just on or just past the verge of tears.

I was this kid see...

Growing up in Hunterdon County NJ. My Childhood wasn't easy, I was Special needs in the early 70's before it was cool.

According to my father, I was just stupid and lazy. You see I was also physically and emotionally abused.

One of the old man's tactics was to alienate me from my peers, my family, teachers, anyone who would show interest in me. If that didn't work. He'd keep telling me they didn't really like me, they just tolerated me. They weren't laughing with they were laughing at me.

And I believed him.

So I found friends who loved me just like I was.

I found heroes who lived in a little magic box I kept by my bed.

My Fantastic Four.

The Wolfman, The Storyteller, The Jokester and Captain Grumpy.

They had hundreds and hundreds of Cohorts, always willing to lend a hand. Play me a song when I was down. Tell me a joke when I needed a laugh.

But they were my favorites.

The Storyteller told me my bed time story.

The Wolfman protected me while I waited for the Sandman. And If I got an unwanted visitor at night he comforted me till I calmed down.

Captain Grumpy Woke me up and made sure I left for school with a smile on my face.

Which leaves "The Jokester"

School was never easy for me. I have ADD and Asperger's Syndrome plus severe neurological trauma (TBI) from a childhood accident. Nobody knew anything about any of this back then.

There were days when I'd come home so miserable that i didn't want to do anything but lie on my bed and cry.

Those were the days I'd get home grab my transistor radio and my dog and go hide in the woods.

And the Jokester would be there playing just the right song. Making me laugh. Making me forget my problems and even if only for a couple of hours forget everything.

So many of my childhood memories have a WABC soundtrack.

It Was Dan Ingram who taught me to laugh. My love of puns and double entendres came out of a little tinny speaker powered by a 9 volt battery.

Some day I hope our paths will cross and I'll be able to say Thank you.

( got a real nice response from Big Dan's son Chris. He thanked me and told me he'd give Dan a copy)

For an audio promo of this years Rewound...

Bruce

The Polish Arabians have a special history this is part of what the Poles had to go through to save the bloodline. If you look in my cousins pure polish section there is "Witraz" in the linage of some of their horses.

**********

It is thanks to the dedication of a few Polish horsemen, and the fact that the horses were bred all over the country rather than in just one area, that the Polish Arabian exists at all today. Late in the war, the Nazis moved many Polish Arabians to Germany, notably to Dresden, which the Allies bombed barbarously. "In the records of Janów Podlawski, there is an account of that night of horror in which a groom, J. Ziniewicz, held the reins of Janow's two cherished stallions, Wielki Szlem and Witraz," relates Johnson. "As the bombs fell and the night was filled with the earsplitting sound of death and destruction, the stallions reared and fought in a frenzied panic to escape the terror. Undeterred, through the long, awful night, the groom held their bridles. In that single night, 21 of Janów's finest Arabians perished at Dresden, but Wielki Szlem and Witraz were not among them."

At the end of World War II, Andrej Krysztalowicz, the patron and director of the Janów Podlawski stud farm, brought back from Germany what remained of the Polish herd. He spent the next 40 years guiding its fortunes. With the old stud farms largely destroyed, breeding after 1945 was carried on at three state-owned farms—Michalów, Abligowa, and Nowy Dwor—using the original bloodlines of the private studs. In recent years, these and other farms have gradually reverted to private ownership.

All extant knowledge of the bloodlines of the Polish Arabians can be found in The Polish Studbook, established in 1926 by Dr. Edward Skorkowski, a leading expert on breeding, and the first Arabian Horse Breeding Society's stud-book commission.

This is Gwen Ifill apearing on Meet the Press with Russert.

Ifill: The offense, the slur that Imus directed at me happened more than 10 years ago. ...

When Don Imus said this about me when I worked here at NBC, when I found out about it, his producer called because Don said he wants to apologize. Well, now he says he never said it. What was he apologizing for? He was apologizing for getting caught, not apologizing for having said it in the first place. And that to me is the debate we need to have, David is right, about the culture of meanness, about the culture of racial complaint, about the internal culture within our community about how we talk to one another. But just this week it was finally saying, enough.

Wonder if our friend Eric Deegans will be so quick with this statement. Deegans' blogging about an appearance on H&C where he opines on Imus' then impending return.

My Evening With Hannity and Colmes Part II: The Media Matters Version

COLMES: Well, that's what satire is. But you call it racist

DEGGANS: There's examples going back 15 years, 20 years, where he's called Gwen Ifill, who was then with The New York Times, a cleaning lady.
