For Thursday’s final hour Bernie, Mark and Warner go to the phones. Bernie discloses the Cardinal will be back! Then mayhem ensues. Entertaining but we are reminded why Imus does not take calls.
6:15 Bernie off to a great start. Shows up with notes and newspapers. Slips right in with Mark and Warner. Mark plays a couple of clips from Tim’s memorial. Bernie talks about Tim, Barnicle and Luke. He throws a number of body shots at MSNBC “They Report, Nobody Watches” and so on…
I’m sure Bernie will be fine. Not as funny as he could be, but fine.
No Cardinal either…unless he cleaned THAT up, really , really well.

IMO Bernie is doing a great job. Toned down a bit, but still great analysis and humor. I did notice he passed on the opportunity to give Ifill a shot. Probably a good idea.
Look forward to him going solo on Friday.

The Lady from Florida calling in during the 9 hour was a riot. She called to talked about the cardinal and wanted to only talk to Bernard err Bernie. Tried to take over the show.
Bernie revealed the Cardinal is still around and we will hear more of him in the future.
Perfect example of why Imus doesn’t take calls.
At one point Bernie made some remark catching himself saying “that’s okay its after 9″! Confirming RFD is holding the show back.

I was listening to the woman commenting on the Russert memorial, Bernie “Its an Irish Thing”
I have been watching the coverage of Tim Russert’s memorial has anyone else seen the still photo of the double rainbow? According to the coverage this occured while they were playing “over the rainbow” from Tim Russert’s IPod. Is this a true story? The part about the music being played at the sametime the rainbow appeared?
Rainbows as in God turning over his war cup re The Great Flood- Noah, and in Irish lore you will find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow ect…I just found the symbolism of the rainbow and the meaning of the song “Over the Rainbow” comforting. Yes I am a romantic, that is an Irish thing too, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Tim Russert was listening to his Ipod

Yes, Tim’s Wake & memorial send off was in a true Irish way. Reminded me of my own Catholic self of long ago ~ once upon a time in St. Dominics Parish. At our Wakes we always said a prayer – shed a tear & had a laugh & a drink. The double rainbow that shone as ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ played ~ gave me the shivers. ‘Twas nearly Mystical & surely was a sign from God about Tim. I was named after Judy Garland so the song is personal to me. Re: Bernie McGuirk – I also claim him as kin – my Gr. Gr. Grandmother Margaret McGuirk married Hugh Monahan both late of Donegal {1855} in St. Dom’s Church. I realize that this is way too much info – but I can’t resist.
P.S. Re: Tim’s MTP show – the ideal person to follow him is I-Fav Doris Kearns Goodwin ~ Don’t ya think?
Tim was very unique in terms of background, education, experience and skills.
Not only was Tim a product of Catholic Schools. He was Jesuit trained, who by reputation are intellectuals and critical thinkers. As a law school grad his early experience was with two of the top politicians of their day (Mario Cuomo and Patrick Moynihan). Professionally he was a first rate newsperson known for his interviews. He knew first hand how government worked and had the ability to prepare for and the personality to ask the tough questions.
How would any news organization duplicate Tim? Answer is simple if it were possible CBS, ABC, FOX would have done so long before now.
Warner was right this morning – Never succeed a legend, succeed the person who succeeds the legend!

Channel’s words are so true. As many of us or those that use to watch “The Price is Right”. No one could replace Bob Barker. Well someone has and I do not know the ratings, but it isn’t as well received as it once was. Just takes time to get use to a new face, voice and delivery.
However, Tim Russert isn’t into Game Show hosting. He was truly one of a kind. Something like Don Imus. Always imitated never quite duplicated. So the search will go on for Tim’s replacement.
I can only say this. “God had a purpose” for taking Timothy John Russert from us. But NOBODY can ever replace his knowledge, his delivery nor his insight.
Tomorrow will be a different day on Imus with Bernie running the show. But it will be pure Bernie I think. Let’s all hope.

Turns out the Corps were covering their backsides with the Post’s reporting last weekend.
This is how the feds cast the net. Gather the little fish for bait and build the case to big fish. Al’s in trouble because the Corp guys will generally tell the truth, esp if they feel it was a shakedown. And from the way the Post tells it “That’s their story and they’re sticking to it!”

Kind of funny because a few years ago Jackson was the one being accused of shaking down big Corporations. That kind of went away and now they’re after Sharpton.
Difference is the IRS will absolutely get you on tax returns while other things might go away. If it’s an IRS thing he just might be toast. Especially if it’s hiding income. IRS really goes after that big time.

Little disappointed in Bernie this morning. For some reason I thought/hoped he would be better. He wasn’t horrible, but I just thought he’d be a bit smoother, more fluid.
Frankly I think part of the problem is too much Warner Wolf. He struggles to fill air and works too hard at trying to be funny.
I think Bernie did an O.K. job, but he seemed nervous and more tha a little monitored. He is hilarious, but seemed to have been trying to be a very “serious” talk show host for his employers. He’s better with Imus and the gang, more himself. Maybe they were testing him to see if he passed, and to see how popular he actually is. I think he “passed” their test, and perhaps in the future can go back to “Bernie”, once it is obvious he can also bring in the ratings=money.

Everyone doesn’t get New York Humor, I do it is edgy and witty and funny. Bernard McGuirk is funny, he is caustic too, when he wants to be.

Bernie absolutely rules as far as edgy and caustic wit….too bad he is seen as “troublesome” by some of the powers that be. We are intelligent people who “get” sarcasm, but the media seems to me to think we are all idiots who need to be spoon fed- just my opinion, but we actually can tell the difference!!!!!
