Here We Go Again?
Not Quite, WABC & Citadel VP Phil Boyce Backs Imus
WABC and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. Vice President Phil Boyce said Imus would be explaining his comments on his Tuesday morning show and it was unlikely the broadcasters would take disciplinary action against him.
Boyce said Imus had explained his words in a private conversation Monday afternoon and the explanation was satisfactory.
“I think some people may be misunderstanding what he meant,” said Boyce
Guys from ESPN do some real reporting, they go to WABC Radio for management reaction. Novel Idea!
Couple of differences between now and April ‘07:
- Talk radio now knows how to defend itself against these type of attacks.
- Management stepped in immediately and defended Imus.
- Dick Gregory appears on the show and defends Imus.
- Imus is not on going on the Sharpton apology tour.
- Pacman Jones is not an innocent bystander.
- Then there is that pesky I-Nation thing.

IMUS!!! In Trouble? (again???)

I refuse to “go through it again.”
First of all, been there, done that, bought the tee shirt, still payin’ for it, and all that…meaning that’s old news and there’s no way “they” can make as much out of nothing as they did the last time. I think it’s just a minor blip.
In the event, it blows up, I’m going to sit it out this time. The chips will fall where they fall. Imus will do what Imus will do. I just won’t be able to get as worked up about it. Something has changed, and it’s me. I admit it, I am powerless over Imus.
My reply to Greta Van Stupid Susteren’s Poll.
Second one tonight.
Pacman Jones Criminal Record
Posted on: March 2nd, 2007
Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones is the poster child for everything that is wrong with the NFL. NFL teams continue to draft thugs and convicts without regarding for their moral character or criminal record. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is considering a proposal where NFL players will be kicked out of the league after three strikes.
Here is a rap sheet look at all of Pacman’s brushes with the law since joining the NFL’s Tennessee Titans:
July 13, 2005- Arrested and charged with assault and felony vandalism after a nightclub altercation. This began Pacman Jones NFL rap sheet. He already had a lengthy one from high school and college.
September 5, 2005- Adam was invited to attend the Nashville Sports Council Kickoff Luncheon. Jones went off on a verbal tirade while being told to wait for his car after the event. He then refused to tip the valet service.
October 2005- State of West Virginia filed a petition stating that Jones had not been contacting his probation officer and that he had not reported his July 2005 arrest. The judge extended the probation for just 90 days.
March 23, 2006- Charged with marijuana possession in Fayetteville, Georgia. He went on to claim that he knew how to beat the NFL’s drug test.
August 25, 2006- Arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication after being ordered by the cops to leave a Murfreesboro night club several times. Jones claimed a woman stole his wallet. The woman claimed that Jones spat on her. The judge in the case gave Pacman six months probation and told him to stay away from the club.
October 26, 2006- Jones was issued a citation for misdemeanor assault after a female student from Tennessee State University claimed that Jones spit in her face at a Nashville night club.
Feburary 19, 2007- The facts are disputed and no charges have been made yet, but Jones was in the middle of a fight and shooting at a strip club in Las Vegas that left one man paralyzed and two more wounded. The fight broke out after Jones showered strippers on stage with $81,000 dollars. The club owner claims Jones was beating a strippers head against the bar while claiming to kill one of the club’s employees.
January 3, 2008- Pacman is accused of punching Wanda S. Jackson in the face at an Atlanta strip club called the Body Tap Strip Club. Jackson says Jones reached over the counter and sucker punched her in her left eye.
The above time line doesn’t include his sentence of one year in prison for a bar fight in Morgantown, West Virginia while in college. The sentence was later suspended in exchange for two years of probation (because he is a really good football player).
Here is a look at the options the Tennessee Titans have if they decide to cut Pacman Jones. He doesn’t only need to be cut, but Jones needs to serve some time. He has been given preferential treatment his entire life because he is good at playing football.
This Man has the right to question Don Imus
Listen carefully to this exchange with Warner Wolf, and then Bernie adds his two cents.
BrucesYahooTubes
Imus opens up the show this am responding to Pacman questions”
“The point was its a sarcastic comment, thats the point”
“Some people want to get me but you’re not getting me for this, this is ridiculous.”
So I’m clicking around on TV with the volume on mute while listening to Imus on WABC. Landed on the Fox and Friends show, which IMO is proof that the dumbing down of America is complete.
Anyhow, they are all over the Imus story with great glee and delight and will have Sharpton on later in the morning.
Good God I hate these people.
(you may see this in a few news sites…anyone who used the AP wire story got this)
The day after George Carlin, proponent of free speech, passes from the scene, Don Imus, who had Carlin on as a guest many times, is again, being raked over the “ooh, what he said !” coals.
Those who DIDN’T listen to the program and therefore have NO clue what was said, Imus was making the observation that African Americans were more targeted by police becaue of their race than by anything else.
Then some idiot takes a comment, out of context , incomplete, and gives Sharptongue an opportunity to get the media hounds off HIS back and onto Don Imus.
Please.
You see what happened to WFAN and MSNBC. Fire Imus, lose money, market share. WABC is making $$$, more than ever, they do not want to make that mistake now.
I hope Imus, who has satisfied Suliman and the other suits at Citadel all who have heard the ENTIRE comment, laces into those who are trying desperately to get him fired.
George would use a couple of those “seven words” to describe the backlash and the idiots too.
Imus NYC Reporting
QueenPat, So far this am Imus is tearing into this, no apologies, no retreat, no surrender! What’s the Possibility this turns into the classic Imus rant?
Kevin Cannessa over at The Hudson Line raises a good point:
Nothing like a little controversy to make for a good IITM.
Just got done listening to Karith’s and Tony’s remarks about yesterday’s show. Would anyone like to complain (again) about them being on the show now?
Imus makes a good point …and it’s a point that’s been made here more than once …where’s this great discussion about race in America that everybody says we MUST have. It’s on Imus in the Morning …and nowhere else …that I can see (or hear).
Mike08Exdem,
I have said that from the beginning people don’t get it Karith and Tony are getting it from both sides but it is Imus not his cast who makes decisions for the Imus in the Morning Program.
So who is it that thought they could make something out of nothing at all? Where did this originate – which “Media Monitor” tried to target them with this soundbyte? I can’t believe we actually have Media Monitors is that like old Hall Monitors when we were all in grade school….you know tattle tales.
Laree
I could be wrong about this …but I think Al Sharpton was the first one out of the box on this one (surprise surprise!).
Isn’t WFAN about to lose TWO MORE DJs?
mike08exdem
The Rev Al Sharpton trying his best to make himself relevant to who the Far Left? Senator Hillary Clinton is out of the race. Imus has stated many times he is voting for McCain but he doesn’t think it would be the worse thing that ever happened if Obama was elected…basically Imus saying both canidates are electable to him.
So what would be the point of targeting Imus? It doesn’t effect anything? Obama could come on IITM anytime he wants, I doubt seriously Obama would want to alienate even more of the Democrat voters by targeting Imus.
Some have said Al Sharpton trying to change the focus of the newscycle because he is getting hammered in the Press.
Laree
“Some have said Al Sharpton trying to change the focus of the newscycle because he is getting hammered in the Press.”
He should be “getting hammered” in prison …if you get my drift. Come on IRS …let’s get that investigation into high gear!
Imus getting support on I Man myspace page check out the comments Alexis P Suter has left a comment for Imus.
I like Dick Gregory and I liked the Turtle analogy, Imus: hard on the outside, soft on the inside and willing to stick his neck out.
http://www.myspace.com/getoffmyphone
George Carlin, really relevant today more then ever….I miss him.
Interesting..
…if the Afro-American community infers what has befallen “Pacman” as “racial profiling”,
no outcry.
Imus says the same thing…all hell breaks loose.
Screw all those PC assholes.
The country lost a great comic genius…George Carlin.
Thankfully there is still the likes of Dick Gregory. It was great to hear him again this morning…and the “turtle” analogy was spot on.
Here we go:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/organizing/4g8sd
From the Obama website…….
Mika said her husband heard it over the radio and it made him CRINGE. Now that sounds familiar……….
“I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.”
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm………….
Willie: “But Al Sharpton says………”
SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Harley, #23
That page was put up on the website by a sole supporter of Obama (like a “mySpace” page for supporters).
I sent a letter to the Obama Campaign asking for it to be removed, noting it was not in my interest, nor of the interest of many other Americans who believe strongly in free speech…and it reflected a bad light on His campaign.
I guess there are wack job activists for every little thing under the sun…and they aren’t limited to any Party, Candidate or Color.
Harley, Especially disconcerting is that a Presidential Campaign OBAMA 08 is being used to stifle FREE SPEECH. Looking through the names on Obama’s mail to list leads me to believe that this is an attack not on Imus but on talk radio.
Included in the contact list are Steve Boreneman Pres Citadel, Phil Boyce VP Citadel, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Warner Wolf, on-air personalities, Lisa Bonk, Leslie Slender and Linda Winek sales and marketing.
Here are the email addresses which appear on the Obama campaign’s contact list
webmaster@wabcradio.com; lisa.bonk@citcomm.com; steve.borneman@citcomm.com; grant@wabcradio.com; hannity@foxnews.com; mark.levin@citcomm.com; leslie.slender@citcomm.com; linda.winek@citcomm.com; warner.wolf@citcomm.com;
This is what we have to look forward to?
If you read that page carefully (which some people obviously are NOT) Obama did not put this page up. A supporter of his did. Her name is:
Sharon Payne
Location:
anywhere (Hillsborough, NC)
Associated Groups: African Americans for Barack Obama, Black Designers Crafters and Artists for Obama, Black Folks for Obama, Black Women of Distinction, Blacks and Latinos UNITE for OBAMA ‘08
Sharon Payne: SHE is the one organizing the event. SHE put up the mailing list.
LMAO…
And to keep things REAL…scroll down to the VERY bottom and see how many people have signed up for “HER event”…LOL 0.
I’ll bookmark that page so I can keep track of the droves of people willing to attend her little meeting…LMAO….
Name at the top is OBAMA 08. Site has been PAID FOR BY OBAMA FOR AMERICA and is POWERED by HOPE. We will see which action(s) the campaign takes. IMO, Obama owes Imus an apology for this unfair attack.
Write to his campaign ChanX. I have already, asking that it be taken down.
Donald, you have way more influence with the Obama folks then I have.
It has crossed my mind this morning that this whole thing was done on purpose by Imus to make a point and to bring attention to his show and his promise to broaden the discussion about race in this country.
Thoughts?
Imus looking for more exposure? Crossed my mind more then once.
Here is Rev Al’s appearance on Fox this AM
FOX: IMUS AT IT AGAIN?
Hinckley weighs in with a review of this morning’s program.
Reading the Joan Rivers piece in the Post at lunch today I realized how deeply saddened I am by the loss of George Carlin.
I “grew up” with his humor and political satire in the age of the late 60’s and early 70’s. I have an original “vinyl” copy of “Class Clown”. Think I’ll go buy a turntable to play it on.
Bummed!
I spent all night listening to yesterday’s Imus program. Actually I had broken it down into each hour’s four segments. We do know that between segments there is approximately 5 minutes and 15 seconds of commercials and local news. So in actuality there is about 34 minutes and 35 seconds of on air time per hour.
Any normal thinking person would never have picked up the words said by Imus at the 8:15 EDT segment with Warner Wolf. But most people are not normal. They use every excuse to find fault with Imus and his gang.
I shall not write about this again so please listen carefully.
If we continue to discuss this here we will exacerbate the problem. All eyes are on both sites. Imus Truth and Imus Times are targets for those that dislike Imus and what he stands for. Thus the discussion will never end unless we end it now. We can post comments to the incessant and many ignorant web writers by defending Imus. We can also send letters and email to people in higher places of Citadel Broadcasting, NBC, CBS and ABC.
By doing this we are defending something that does not need defending, thus making it sound like there was something said that was bad. But I know as you know, nothing is farther from the truth. What Don Imus said yesterday was not even a gaffe.
I will continue to do my 9 O’clock hour. And put together my little comedy bits for different sites. But will not continue discussing something over and over again that needs not to be discussed.
We have hypocrites on television that have nothing better to do then try to destroy a Man who has dedicated his life to Children with cancer. Newspaper columnists and publishers are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill so they can sell their newspaper. And Senator Obama is making another error in judgment by allowing one of his staffers to hold a rally saying that “Don Imus should be removed from the airways”. This will not win him the Presidency.
Personally if I were Don Imus I would just quit and continue the good deeds he is known for. He doesn’t need to do this radio/TV program. But if this carries on for more than this day in the media and on his program, we will all become bored and tune out.
Do what you have to do. But count me out of the discussion.
Thanks for listening.
Thank you Bruce.
You summed up my feelings on this issue more eloquently than I ever could have.
Perspective, Imus sites are not driving this news cycle the MSM and traditional I-haters are responsible.
This makes so much sense:
http://chipshots.chipramsey.com/2008/06/24/i-am-the-decider.aspx?results=1#SurveyResultsChart
ENJOY!
As much as many on these two sites would like to think otherwise, we hardly drive anything. You’ve got like 10-15 people who post, most of whom are fucking nuts.
Sorry, but I’ve always wanted to see if that word would go through and it applies to the pathetic creatures on Truth.
I’m in a very bad mood today about Carlin. Screw Imus.
skiwolf,
I said what I said. But didn’t say I wouldn’t comment on someone elses post about Don Imus in General.
Your language is just wrong. And if you want to turn this site into another site keep going.
“Screw Imus” you say. Then get your butt out of here. I do not want you here. And that’s my opinion.
Skiwolf
Why “screw Imus” what did he do??
Ski, You bring up a good point, a lot of people are grieving over the sudden loss of Russert then Carlin. First thought on hearing of Carlin’s death was I can’t do this. Imagine how Imus must feel he knew both of these people for many years on a much more personal level then any of us.
Remember these things always come in threes. We are two down, who’s next? Anyone up for a pool? (Joking).
Thing I like about Bruce? He wears his emotions on his sleeve.
And Channel I will always tell it like it is. But patting SkiWolf on the back in my estimation is the wrong thing to do.
Using the “F” word and “Screw Imus” is the wrong direction for Imus Times.
Even our Sister site doesn’t allow that word to be spoken.
You are my friend. But whether you know it or not I work hard for the Imus situation, no matter what it is. And will defend to the death his freedom of speech. LEGAL SPEECH.
Not irresponsible ignorant speech I see and hear on blogs and News Stations.
Enough.
My comment had nothing to do with you Bruce. You’ll get over it sooner or later I’m sure. Bite Me!
Enough SkiWolf…. You are turning into a person I once attacked.
Yawn!
I agree with Bruce wholeheartedly! And (imho) shiwolf owes both sites and Bruce an apology. That type of lashing out is inappropriate and childish no matter what the reason. Your a grown-up right? Should you not act like one?? Calling the people on the other site “pathetic creatures” is just going to far, and yes Channel, I too think its wrong to try to placte him. Of course this is jmho.
Just a comment and an observation:
I realize Skiwolf is distressed over the death of George Carlin.
The phrase “screw Imus” struck me for one reason…
…Imus and Carlin had a lot in common.
An Example:
Just after 9/11 George Carlin did an HBO special, that is available on C.D. and on Itunes entitled “Complaints & Grievances”. Toward the end of the very first piece entitled “The Opening”, George Carlin recommended a certain solution pertaining to homeland security. Guess who’s solution he quoted…by name: Don Imus.
I can agree with Chanx, with Russert and Carlin’s deaths…and then the latest salvo from the media mental midgets attacking Imus… it could very well be an overwhelming two weeks…
… keeping things in perspective, and trying to hold onto some form of common sanity and rationale would be prudent.
As far as “bad words”…well, words can be used in the most civil manner in human culture, and even those words used in certain contexts can, and often do, inflict far more damage than any expletive.
Thank you Donald.
SkiWolf: YAWN! is correct my friend. Take a nap.
Both of us have had the rug pulled out from under us. We lose George Carlin and then the screwballs come out and pull Imus’ words out of context without understanding what he was trying to demonstrate.
Only learned people understood. And as Dick Gregory said; “Imus is one of a kind”. (sic)
So say what you wish. IT (The other IT) doesn’t want you. And soon this site will not want you.
I can put up with the “F” word. But when you couple that with “Screw Imus”, that’s it for me.
Channel says I wear my emotions on my sleeve. He is correct when it comes to Imus.
But please come back down to Earth again. We do not want another negative thread ever again.
And remember “I SAID PLEASE”.
Thank you Goiman….
Missed your Avatar.
ENJOY!

Your welcome Bruce! You said it so well I really applaud you for you common sense. You do not deserve to be mistreated for stating your feelings. Ok, thats enough, I’m done. Now I’ll wait for the retribution…
meant you’re welcome! Don’t want the spelling police to get me:)
Obviously the “screw Imus” comment was meant in frustration over the death of George Carlin and in relation to all things important.
I’m sorry if some of you did not get that point. Hard to translate that stuff in black and white type I guess, but I figured it would.
My thanks to X, for the one person who got it.
Reading on the deck today’s NY Times. Incredible coverage of George Carlin:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/24/nyregion/24hayes.html?_r=1&ref=nyregion&oref=slogin
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/24/arts/24appr.html?ref=arts

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/24/arts/24appr.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=carlin&st=nyt&oref=login
These are the four articles in the Times today regarding Mr. Carlin. One is more positive than the next. An amazing man with an amazing life and an incredible talent and brain.
We don’t have spelling police here GOIMAN.
“Life goes on” and on and on and on.
goiman whoever the hell you are I have not posted on the other site. Go figure?
skiwolf – I never said you did! What are you talking about??
I see everyone is having a good time. Hate to break up the party but have been working on a new thread…
Piece of advice Gregory gave Imus this morning “Take one breath back”.
My latest post on Imus is;
TO THE USUAL GROUP OF IMUS HATERS … SHUT UP, GROW UP, & GET A LIFE!
You can find it at http://hillarynme.wordpress.com.
I listened to some of the comments made on CNN, MSNBC, etc. yesterday. Never did so many say so little for so long.
Glad I missed ‘em. I’m content in my isolation. Much more peaceful here.
There was enough hot air on cable last night to fill half of the ballons in the Albuquerque Ballon Festival.
Mercifully, I personally did not hear the Rev. Al although there was one piece of interesting info. Media Matters had no comment on Imus this time around!!!!
O’Reilly said he thought it was because Obama is the nominee and any black/white talk would be harmful to his campaign. Horse hockey!
I think its because Media Matters took such a whopping in the blogosphere when it was discovered that they set the I-man up. I know I was merciless against them . . . rightfully so, I might add.
