Imus R&B / Jazz Bumpers
Playlist Notes: Imus Jazz / R&B Bumpers have established a recurring Imus In The Morning signature over the course of his broadcast career. The Bumpers are used to intro and outro commercial breaks and program segments. Often instrumental pieces are used as a bed for Imus “live read” commercials.
Full play versions of the bumpers can be found at the iMus iTunes iMix “Imus R&B/Jazz Bumpers” Playlist where you can listen to clips and purchase downloads.

I love B B King
When Love Comes to Town,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I was a sailor, I was lost in sea
I was under the waves, before love rescued me
I was a fighter I could turn on threat
Now I stand accused of things I’ve said
When love comes to town,
I’m gonna jump that train
When love comes to town,
I’m gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down,
But I did what I did before love came to town
Used to make love under the red sunset,
I was making promises I that were soon to forget
She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown,
But I left her standing before love came to town
Ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream,
The notes were turning blue as days as a little dream
As the music played I saw my life turn around,
That was the day before love came to town
When love comes to town,
I’m gonna jump that train
When love comes to town,
I’m gonna catch that flame
Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down,
But I did what I did before love came to town
I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice as they pierced his side,
But I’ve seen love conquer the great divide
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
I did what I did before love came to town…
When love comes to town I’m gonna catch that train…
No problem Chanx, glad to help.
We don’t need anymore disgruntled I-Fans out there…LOL.
I had most of these in my library already, and music (being my passion in life) is my “forte”… it always has been since I was a little kid.
Might want to add “In With The In Crowd” by Ramsey Lewis also. 🙂
After Imus “went off” the air last year, I added quite a few of them into the library and the IPod…missed hearing those “all to comforting” music intros….
Ree, Donald ThanX.
The bumpers are my summer project. Want to make this good, all help is appreciated.
Also compiling Country and Rock Bumpers, work-in-progress at the ChannelXRFR YouTube Page Click | Here
ChannelXRFR,
Dwight used in any of the bumpers?
Chanx:
Looks like your “summer project” is off to a good start…
…but if you’re gonna do a country compilation…
…better get some Willie in the mix…LOL.
Good job!
Suggestions for Willie / Dwight Bumpers?
NY Post takes a bite of the Sharpton apple
This Headline from the NY Daily News
Donaldinks ~ re: Bill Doggett ~ ‘Honkey Tonk’ Pt. 1 & 2 great Sax sound. Brings to mind ‘Sleepwalk’ {done by Santos & Johnny?}. Oh! So many great musical memories. Is America a great Musical country or what? God Bless our musical American hearts!
Booker T & the MG’s – ‘Green Onion’
Excellent add StDomsGirl.
ThanX
Chanx:
From Willie:
How about “The Party’s Over”…
..for a start…LOL.
“The Party’s Over”
from the album “Always On My Mind” (1982)
available on ITunes.
“The Party’s Over” great choice. Plays on so many levels.
ThanX
Also, need a Dwight Yoakam. Currently have “Intentional Heartache” on the video list, which Dwight performed on IITM. Although I don’t recall this piece being used as a bumper.
Thought of another I-Fave…
Van Morrison
“Dominoe”
from the album “Moondance” (1970)
available at ITunes
Not really well versed in Dwight Yoakam…
..and don’t have any of his material in my library…so I’m at a loss on that one.
Chanx….
….I think this project could run well into the end of Fall…or even winter. LOL
Could evolve into a 6 C.D. set. 🙂
Warren Zevon….another I-Fave.
Maybe “Werewolves Of London”,
…or, “Keep Me In Your Heart” (from his last album, “The Wind”). Imus really loved that particular song.
OK…enough for today!….LOL
Chanx, great work! I’m lovin’ all the music!
Warren Zevon is a must. How about “Lawyers, Guns, and Money”, “Excitable Boy”, and “I’ll Sleep when I’ Dead”. I think Dwight Yoakam sang on an album with Zevon. Not sure. I’ll check it out.
sorry,
when I’m Dead
Imus plays a Zevon song that brings tears to my eyes. I wish I could think of the name! It must’ve been one of the last songs he wrote.
Alice….the song that you are trying to remember by Warren Zevon is called “Keep Me In Your Heart”…from his very last album.
Imus played that particular song by Warren Zevon a lot when the album (The Wind) first came out. He often plays it as a tribute when someone passes on, most recently…after Tim Russert left us all.
Thanks, donald. Yes, that’s the one.
Donald, hope you’re feeling well.
Alice, How about this;
Dwight Yoakum’s cover of Warren Zevon’s “Carmelita”
Didn’t Imus go on and on about this?
I guess Channel didn’t like my audio mix of the tracks. Have not received any comments.
However it is a major task that Channel has taken on. Bekka Bramlett is another star that was on the IITM program. The Video of that broadcast is on my channel.
Something all together off subject now. It’s like the word of the day.
Diana sent this to me.
Little did I know when I was given the audio to this phone call that it would become SO HUGE. When I produced this video, I knew it was special to ME, but never would I have guessed when typing the text and editing the music that it would literally touch MILLIONS. I am proud to have put this video together for the world to see and hear. We have had a lot of requests to replay the phone call that Pastor Mike shared during our church service on Sunday, Nov. 11th, 2007.
Listen and share if you wish.
Bruce
I am finally back on the upstairs computer with home phone service, I fixed it myself. I am feeling so cocky now, I better keep my head down 🙂
LOL…
Ree, you go girl! Make sure you send yourself the bill and pay it!
And Alice:
Thank you for the well wishes…getting better everyday!
Chanx, I believe you are correct. The youtube link is great. I think Dwight Yokam is a cutey!
How about Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again”? My son and I are just about to set off on another adventure. Off to spend two nights at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort. We’ll be renting ATVs tomorrow and will be exploring. Searching for Aquamarine on Mount Antero. The very best things about being a school teacher are June, July, and August. BIG GIANT GRIN!
Imus played “Carmelita” a bunch of times on the show a few years ago. There’s a lot of versions of it on Youtube.
Here’s Warren Zevon doing it.
Does anybody remember the Flatlanders? How about adding them to the list.
…endless list
This was supposed to be on the post above …with the Flatlanders.
Flatlanders are a definite for the country bumper. ThanX
Re: Jesse & Barack ~ As Irish Barkeep Martin Dooley once said, ‘Trust everybody ~ but cut the cards’.
Finley Peter Dunne was the Chicago newspaper journalist who invented Irishman Martin Dooley for the columns he wrote. Meself. being an old Poker player ~ love Dooley’s observation – ‘Trust everyone but cut the cards’ Too funny. 🙂
‘Take five’ – Dave Brubeck – classic cool music – another one for the ages & Imus 🙂
ChannelX,
I am sure that The Kentucky Headhunters, was used as a bumper, can’t remember which song?
Thought of another Jazz I-Fave bumper today:
“Grazing In The Grass”
Hugh Masekella
from the album “Still Grazing” (2004)
available at ITunes.
Just a thought ~ San Fransisco is going to name a Waste Plant for Bush ~ question: will W’s friend ‘Turd Blossom’ be the 1st flushed away after W? Too funny to imagine! 🙂
‘Grazing in the grass’ – brings back many good memories – smoking grass will listening to that song! Yes ~ we inhaled! There is another song I’m trying to remember starts with something like – ‘Drink the wine ~ get that girl????????????’
Stdoms,
Hows does this catch you?
Eric Burdon and War – Spill the Wine (1970)
Here’s another favorite from War – Low Rider
Don’t know about Obama’s embarrassment by Americans who can’t speak foreign languages when they visit foreign lands.
Americans travel primarily to international cities (Rome, Paris etc) where a number of people who speak english for business reasons. Outside of these areas few people speak english.
From my experience the whole notion of european multilingualism is greatly exaggerated. Even more exaggerated is the number of europeans who speak english. Most europeans speak only their native language. Multilingual europeans tend to speak french as their second language. Those europeans who do speak english typically do so as a 3rd or 4th language. Most multilingual europeans are from the Benelux countries. These are relatively small countries primarily engaged in international trade with each other and interdependent business interests.
Harley posted this on Imus Truth, and Ballentine does inject Imus into the discussion. Ballentine was on O’Reilly before he was the person who said he knew what Imus really meant by his Pacman Jones comment even after Imus stated he was being sarcastic…so Mr Ballentine is a Thought Reader? This shows there are two standards on air. I want to thank the Rev Jesse Jackson for this example to point out the double standard. I don’t need to know what Jesse Jackson did or didn’t mean, he apologized to Mr Obama and that is who his comments were directed at so it is their business isn’t it? Btw if I have to pick bwt Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson I pick Mr Jackson.
Thanks Channel for the reminder re: Eric Burden ~ War 🙂
Hannity asks Rev Al to explain why Jackson should be forgiven but not Imus…

Z. Z. Top ~ Cheap Sunglasses? LOL 🙂
Hypocrits against our guy Imus – Sheesh! Glad Jesse got caught with his pants down – oops – guess he wants to get Obama’s pants down! Lol 🙂
To Sharpton, Jackson is a sympathetic creature and Imus is the white devil.
ZZ Top on the rock list…
I look at the “Whole” people apologize and don’t apologize re the Rev Jeremiah Wright but everyone gets forgiven or some kind of understanding but Imus WHY” and The Rev Jesse Jackson, appeared on Imus in the Morning, on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s assasination, along with Sister Louise. To me that says he accepted Imus’s apology. Then do these other folks, blatantly reject a White Person’s apology? I Remember watching John McCain giving a speech that same day, saying he was wrong to oppose the Bill for MLK holiday a woman from the audience said, we all make mistakes you are forgiven…so it isn’t all people just a FEW who think they have a RIGHT to JUDGE. Now that isn’t what I was taught spiritually “Judgement is mine alone, sayth the Lord” I Watch old Bill Hick’s youtube videos, he has two Evangelicals walk up to him after one of his shows, they say to him “We’re Christians, and we didn’t like what you had to say about Christians in your Act” Bill Hicks said, well you’re Christians – Then Forgive Me. I guess I look at Jesse Jackson as a survior of his political times, and they are not easy Political times to survive. This hot mic might have been a ploy to gain sympathy for Obama, and it just might.
What has been Christian about the treatment of Imus?
“REV. Jackson. “REV”. Sharpton.
Grrrrrrrr…..
They no longer speak for their people or constituency, and haven’t awakened to that reality….yet. But they soon will.
To McCain & Gramm – we the people – need some cheese with our WHINE.
Chanx:
It’s been a great two days for this thread, and the overwhelming endeavor you have embarked upon…
…the Imus bumpers…GREAT MUSIC.
For once, in a long time…I have been actually excited about the feedback and comments.
Thank You!
Ditto – Grrrrr – to Jesse & Al
Donald the Bumpers are turning out to be great summer fun…
Imus Bumpers is a project I’ve been thinking about for a awhile. Lenny actually got me off my a**, so thank you Lenny. And thanks to everyone who has contributed.
It’s not over yet, we still have country, rock and hip-hop iMus Bumpers!
Hip-hop!?! Ummm …isn’t that how “the troubles” started?
Donald Inks,
They keep saying they are Christians, all of them, and they keep talking about forgiveness and redemption except when it comes to Imus because “They” have judged him, what gives them a right to Judge anyone? I remember Dr Hill stating on Fox News, that Imus had not been punished enough…that blew my mind, who gets to judge and punish people in the private sector? Who has that authority? Then they complain, when the same standards are applied to them re the rite rev jeremiah wright…again all these people expouse “Christian” doctrine but except for Jesse Jackson’s appearance on IITM I don’t see any of these people practicing “Christian” behavior. Except toward each other, that means they hold themselves “Seperate” from the rest of us? Double Standards “GLARING” Obama says he wants to be President of ALL of us.
Somewhere down the line “Aggrievence” got turned into a cottage enterprize.
Oh say it ain’t so….

Bo Dietl contacted Bernie by phone this morning. He is investigating Obama’s birth record in Hawaii. He is having much difficulty.
A guy called Bernie on the phone and wanted to know if he could contribute to Dietl’s investigation with money. Bernie said no money required with Dietl on the case.
Maybe this is a witch hunt. But there has been speculation that Obama is truly not American. If it was truly proven to be correct that he isn’t. Well guess who we have in running against McCain. Old Satan herself.
I am voting for McCain so it really doesn’t matter to me. The Democrat party is in total turmoil right now.

Hey Rev Jesse Jackson how about Fox News speaking down to all of us. Fox News tries to apply a bandaid
http://www.realamericanstories.com/
I am cynical with our Political Leadership. I commented on Imus Truth that Imus should tell his story where he gets up every morning to “People” monitoring and sifting through his program to find anything they can hype in the Media to knock him off the American Air Waves. Why – Politics.
We will take things away from you for the common good like what you like to listen to on the radio and watch on the television.
(socialism – who coined the term, Politically Correct Speech?) Hint Not an American.
One of my BIG pet peeves…Grrrrrr. Why we pay SO MUCH for new pharmaceuticals.
“For Doctors, No More Drug Company Trinkets”
Clipboards, pens and mugs emblazoned with drug company logos are about to become collectors’ items. The pharmaceutical industry’s trade association, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, has issued a new voluntary code of conduct that prohibits distributing the brand-adorned freebies to the nation’s doctors.
According to the group, the code now prohibits distribution of noneducational items like pens, mugs and other “reminder” objects, typically adorned with a company or product logo, to health care providers and their staff. The code acknowledges that such items, even though of minimal value, “may foster misperceptions that company interactions with health care professionals are not based on informing them about medical and scientific issues.”
But as my colleague Gardiner Harris points out in The Times, eliminating the pens and notepads that every patient sees doesn’t do much to stop the influence of drug company money that patients don’t see.
The code provides no definite limits on the millions of dollars spent on speaking and consulting arrangements that drug makers have forged with tens of thousands of doctors. Nor does it ban the routine provision of office breakfasts and lunches, or the occasional invitation to educational dinners at fancy restaurants.
He also reports that the rules don’t apply to biotechnology or medical device makers, “many of which continue to give expensive gifts and resort vacations to high-profile physicians.”

Alec Baldwin should stick to acting. His opinion is that of a Democrat only
As a result of colonialism there are two predominate global languages; English and French. So I ask myself, why would Obama insist that children learn spanish? Then I realize it’s not about global travel. Obama is pushing an English-Spanish multilingual agenda for the US!.

For Governor Bill Richardson’s ability to point out the obvious. Shirley Bassey’s “The Partys Over” although I was thinking of “Send In the Clowns” for the Denver Democrat Convention, that would have worked too 🙂
Searching youtube for stuff is a lot of fun, isn’t it?
Here’s my contribution for a song for the convention in Denver.

That might be the answer but after awhile people will not be able to remember the question 😉
Thanks Bruce.
Another I-Fav is dead. Former White House press secretary Tony Snow has died of cancer. He was 53.
This is terrible news. First Russert, Carlin and now Snow.
Question?
Here’s the list of the top ten languages:
1. Mandarin
2. English
3. Hindustani

I was sorry to hear of Tony Snow passing away today. He was a good journalist, in my book,…and probably one of the better Presidential Press Corps spokespersons in a long while.
Bruce: Thanks for the replay of the show with Bernie. Had to be at physical therapy and missed a great deal of it! 😉
Ree: (#80)
“That Oil guy who bought all the commercial spots talking about “Oil Dependency’ and the biggest transfer of wealth ever. T Burnett?”
That would be T. Boone Pickens. He has launched a massive campaign to get our Country OFF OIL, and onto natural gas, solar and wind power. As he has stated: “This is one problem we can’t drill our way out of.”
The website for his plan is here:
http://www.pickensplan.com/media/
Donald Inks
Where were his commercial spots before we got to crisis stage? High Price of Oil? If he knew it was coming, why not get ahead of the problem? There isn’t any movement from our government on this problem, not from the Administration and not from our Congress? Why is this Political? Everyone one of us is an American it doesn’t matter what brand our politics are the economy effects everyone of us.

http://artofwar.thetao.info/china/text.htm
Laree,
Took a tour of Prattville today and thought of your tornado-survivors. Hope they’re coming along with rebuilding. Interesting history, Prattville, with much stark contrast between the old and the new…ghostly in the center of the town with a massive Victorian-era mill now decaying over the falls, but still a quaint-looking town of historic homes and small shops — then bursting of new development down the street with the huge tourist attraction of Bass Pro/Outdoor World and new shopping, hotels, restaurants and housing going up everywhere. Changes, changes…out with the old and in with the new. Always the way, ain’t it?
My post 93 is a lead into the Tony Snow Tribute link.
It’s not a Newspaper Story.
Ree,
I wholeheartedly agree with the final opinion of the two links on “The Art Of War”.
For the past 8 years, with the outsourcing of our manufacturing base and the dependency on imported oil, we have see one of the largest transfers of capital wealth out of our Country, and into the hands of countries that are, let us say, not really “good allies and friends” of our Nation.
What do they DO with all of that money? NOW, we are just beginning to understand.
It really interested me when T. Boone Picken came out so strongly on the issue…he is a long life Republican, and infused huge amounts of personal wealth into the Bush Jr. campaigns.
I wouldn’t say it has become a political matter, rather many on both sides are now realizing the huge mistake that has been made…and want to act now, and stop the hemorrhaging as soon as possible.
When these policies start to affect those at the very TOP…that’s when things start to change. And right now, those at the top can see quite clearly the price for the policy of short sighted gains of wealth…and what is coming next.
Ree (#91)
“Where were his commercial spots before we got to crisis stage? High Price of Oil? If he knew it was coming, why not get ahead of the problem?”
Actually, T.Boone Pickens was the very first in the BIG oil industry to coin the phrase “Peak Oil”. His theory was that demand would eventually outstrip the the amount of what oil supply was left. He was derided by most everyone in the Oil Industries and by Wall Street as an alarmist.
He TRIED to warn us before. NOBODY wanted to listen. They were too busy making money.
Now (mostly thanks to U.S. corporate policies)…we fed a slumbering giant country with the enticement of capitalism along with huge infusions of wealth. Once it had a “taste” of what we offered…it’s appetite would become insatiable. I’m speaking of China.
The projections for China alone for their oil needs in the near future are staggering. In a few short years, they will have more cars on the road than we have in the U.S. They are investing huge amounts of money into their infrastructure (Freeways and interconnecting roads).
I don’t like to think of what is around the next bend…if we don’t act quickly, and most importantly, correctly.
Donald Inks,
Lou Dobbs had a special “Red Storm Rising” about the Chinese Challenge.
People forget that George W Bush’s first term started with the Chinese “detaining” an American Recognizance Plane.
We were Spying on them was the accusation…yeah the Chinese never spy on us 😉
If I was the Chinese, I would be happy to see the U.S. pinned down militarily in the Middle East. Seems to me with us bleeding American Treasure into the Middle East and they are reaping some of the benefit. “Deflection”
The Chinese are off the coast of Cuba drilling for Oil in our coastal shelf. The Chinese are holding huge chunks of American Debt….yes the Art of War, they wrote the book 🙂
I wonder if there is a magic number Oil has to reach before this Administration and our Congress take real action? They are behaving like deer caught in the headlights. There is a Presidential Election Going on so “Politics” ahead of Leadership? I don’t get it, they can’t Govern and make political decisions at the sametime? This is the old chewing gum and walking at the sametime analogy.
Frec
Prattville was at one time one of the fastest growing towns in Alabama I forget the % of Growth they were experiencing but they are a bedroom town to Montgomery.
My Mom was so relieved that they didn’t have to deal with FEMA, there is something wrong with that, when you hope the Govt doesn’t get involved with helping you out during a natural disaster. I told her at least you didn’t end up in one of those FEMA trailers, told her to look on the brightside they had two big P.O.D.S. out in their backyard, now they have all their outbuildings replaced the chain link fence is up but as the neighbors rebuild the privacy fences will go back up. Many had to demolish what was left of their homes to the slab and so it will take longer for the rebuild. My sister is in remission and takes a monthly pill for any cells left in her body as this was her second time dealing with cancer. She has diabetes now and has to use insulin. My Mom said, she is getting it under control. I think about Tony Snow and my sister, she has the same attitude, he did toward cancer- Fight it and keep living your life.
Ree:
I think the problem is this…we have two sides to the equation. One is to risk a near future World War 3 to keep on oil…or get our shit together…and fast…and become energy independent.
As much as many have derided former President Jimmy Carter…he warned us long ago about this very scenario. The problem? He told the truth. Americans, for the most part don’t want to hear that. They love “sound bites” instead.
T. Boone Pickens plan is not “the answer” per se, but a bridge to buy us time for technology to get us TO the point of energy self reliance.
The best presentation of his plan is on a UTube presentation that takes about 3 minuets of a persons time to digest. I recommend it. It’s a well put together presentation and gets to the point, cutting through the crap. here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/pickensplan
If that presentation interested you…here is the expanded presentation of his plan:
http://www.youtube.com/pickensplan
My apologies…here is the correct link to the expanded presentation:
Donald Inks,
Pickens wants us all on the same page, headed in the same direction but we have been sold out by many of our Politicians. Who is going to have the cohonies, to lead us in the Picken’s direction? Well Jesse Jackson’s words take on new significance. We need someone a leader, who has all their equipment intact:)
Pickens plan made youtube it isn’t a secret anymore it has gone virial let the Politicians explain to the people why we can’t adopt Pickens plan, and what their better plan might be? I think our Govt., is over laiden with beauracrats, who only want more beauracracies.
These times we are living in remind me of Atlas Shrugged. Have you read this book? I guess it is all the recent damage to our infrastucture, and just yesterday they finally did something about near misses of airplanes colliding, they actually had to be present to witness a near miss before they took action. In Atlas Shrugged it was the Trains.
Imus passed through that windfarm. I remember him commenting on the scenery and comparing it to a Don Quixote nightmare.

We are coming up on the 7th aniversary of 911 and we still don’t have border or port security, WHY beauracracies.

At last, Ayn Rand’s masterpiece is available to her millions of loyal readers in trade paperback.
With this acclaimed work and its immortal query, “Who is John Galt?”, Ayn Rand found the perfect artistic form to express her vision of existence. Atlas Shrugged made Rand not only one of the most popular novelists of the century, but one of its most influential thinkers.
Atlas Shrugged is the astounding story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world–and did. Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged stretches the boundaries further than any book you have ever read. It is a mystery, not about the murder of a man’s body, but about the murder–and rebirth–of man’s spirit.
* Atlas Shrugged is the “second most influential book for Americans today” after the Bible, according to a joint survey conducted by the Library of Congress and the Book of the Month Club
I might add that isn’t a COMPLETE list of the scoundrels that made their way into high Government positions in the Bush Jr. terms in The White House.
Oh, what a web they weaved…and how we were deceived.
One thing does make me have SOME comfort…and that is MOST Americans not only THINK, but KNOW we are on the “wrong track”.
NOW what?
I don’t trust any of them anymore…and that’s just my own feelings. 😉

Scroll down to the July 10 entry …”Questions for T. Boone Pickens” …it’s kind of interesting.
Damn…here are some more names from the “good old boys club”…members of PNAC that served under Bush Jr.
Richard Perle
Richard Armitage
John Boulton
Rich Lowry
R. James Wooseley
I know…it’s just a “coincidence”. Or a “conspiracy”
LOL…my God…who would have thought it possible…
We HAVE to do BETTER than THIS people….

This is what the canidates are doing while Rome Burns, they are fiddling with the Hispanic vote. Feel the love? The Dallas Mexican Embassy has had a run on people returning to Mexico, jobs have dried up, they can’t make a living here anymore, and that is a sad state of affairs, mind you I always do the jobs Mexicans couldn’t. Lou Dobbs mentioned, Americans you can mow your own lawns…well I do and more. I am not anti Hispanic my best friend down here is Texan of Mexican descent, and she is so much harder on illegals then I am. I can see people trying to live better lives especially with the corrupt government like Mexico has in charge. My husband has stated you can bring people illegally in this country, into legal compliance if the U.S. government really wanted to.

The sign of returning Mexicans to Mexico makes me think about many things one we are really headed into a recession because the service jobs at the bottom usually feel the brunt and with the housing market in the shape it is unless you are in an area of the country rebuilding like the gulf coast your job in the construction industry might not be there?

Donald Inks,
I think the first time I read Atlas Shrugged, was when I was 18 years old 🙂 I also read things like Carlos Castaneda’s Don Juan serices, Journey to Xalatan ect..
Laree,
Is Prattville your home town? I haven’t been all over Montgomery, but parts I’ve visited seem blighted. “Bedroom communities” such as Prattville are growing. Prattville overlooks the Montgomery cityscape which is beautiful in the twilight as we viewed it last evening.
I hope you can share with your family there are people they don’t even know who are keeping them in their thoughts and prayers (thanks to you.)
Frec
Thank you, I will let them know. My brother in law is from Alabama. I loved our stay in Alabama, the land of kudzu and good manners SMILE.
My home town is in Montana, my family got spread wide and far. My husband was a career solidier – Army, we have seen 6 duty stations, well Army life, you move around alot and see alot of the country. I wouldn’t trade our life for anything but I do want to move to our last stop and set a spell. We are still looking at relocating to Colorado. I am at home in the Mountains.
O.K., let me try this again…
http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/
I posted this earlier today …it has yet to show up.
This is for the T. Boone Picken’s plan discussion.
Scroll down to the July 10 entry …”Questions For T. Boone Pickens” …you may or may not find it interesting.
This is just a test. I tried posting twice yesterday and nothing made it through …yet. Kind of annoying.
Jeez …there’s my posts from yesterday …is that efficient or what?
Is this wordpress.com outfit run by a member of Congress?
Pickens has a financial position in his plan. That’s not bad, in fact its good, representing the free market at work. Now if the government would step out of the way entrepreneurs and investors will lead the US to the solution.
WordPress will spam trap comments which contain URLs. However the Spam Filter does not trap all comments with URLs and it remains unclear what causes certain URLs to be trapped and others to be passed. Sorry about that Mike
“WordPress will spam trap comments which contain URLs. However the Spam Filter does not trap all comments with URLs and it remains unclear what causes certain URLs to be trapped and others to be passed.”
So …it is run by a member of Congress …I that so!
The situation Pickens points out is clear and “if” action was taken, I could see some success. Now does everyone remember that private donors built the hospital down in San Antonio because the people who built the bricks and mortar understood if you left it up to our Govt., it would take years to get built, and our folks coming home wounded didn’t have years to wait on the Beauracrats to move paper 🙂 Col Jacobs mentioned the samething re Walter Reed and the care for Veterans once they reach out paitent status. I have a little experience with Govt Beauracracies.
There was bridge in Minnesota that collapsed, there was Katrina failures at all levels of Government..I posted about after 12-13 years finally something is getting done about near misses at JFK. My Mom didn’t want to deal with FEMA when that Tornado devasted Prattville, Alabama Why, afraid the Government would make everything worse. So we are at a low ebb concerning our beauracracies. This is why yesterday I mentioned “Atlas Shrugged” when your beauracracies become so out of control and dysfunctional they soak up our money but produce nothing things start going wrong at very fundamental levels of our Government. Neither Obama or McCain gives me reassurance they get this. We don’t need more Govt or Bigger Govt we don’t need more beauracracy we need less. I am not suprized the “idea” for energy independence is coming from the Private Sector- Pickens, unless there is a way to bypass the Govt., I don’t know how it would be implemented?
Too Funny, this is what is called “Political Humor” somebody get the leftys a playing with Satire Coloring Book. WE don’t like it, we don’t think it is funny! When was the last time the very far left thought anything was funny? I mean except attacks on George W Bush and his Administration? Camp Obama you got to stop acting like a bunch of “teenage girls” People are kind of watching your reaction to see if you will act like a Grown up? The MSM thinks Americans are going to elect a Victim because that is all they constantly do portray the Obamas as Victims.
http://getoffmyphone.blogspot.com/2008/07/uh-oh.html
I really don’t think this is the reaction the New Yorker was going for 🙂
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/07/14/grow-a-pair-obama/
So …it is run by a member of Congress …I that so!
…I thought so! (learn to spell, you dope!)
Ree (#123)
I think that’s the point. Private sector is putting up, not shutting up…LOL…hopefully the bureaucracies in Washington DON’T impede progress, and ALLOW the private sector to put it all together.
It WILL be a huge undertaking…but there are people that have the capital to do it, and are willing and ready.
Personally, if they make more money getting it done, to me, good for them. At least that money is being invested HERE and NOT being exported OUT of our country.
Sometimes Satire is actually the truth in disguise
Donald Inks,
I hope the Private Sector can circumvent the Govt., the paper pushers get easily overwhelmed by new programs they can’t run the old ones.
I am going to email my husband that youtube of Pickens.
I really think that both McCain and Obama need fresh new Campaign people. McCain’s camp keeps shooting him in the foot. Obama’s camp is coming off like sorority sisters. No one is projecting strength or leadership. You know that movie the “sixth sense” the kid’s famous line, I see dead people. Well applying it to McCain and Obama, I see politicians.
Jaysus! It sure looks like – come November 4th – HE ain’t happening!
The Clintons figured out the Satire edge early on but then they have been in politics alot longer and have more experience. The talking heads are really missing the point you don’t react to everything controversial in the media or newscycle of course they need to hype everything for ratings. This isn’t the Obama Presidential Race, this is the American Presidential Race.
“Sometimes Satire is actually the truth in disguise”
…and sometimes satire can be overboard.
Just my own opinion…but the cover of “The New Yorker” would have found a better home on the top of an “op-ed” piece, or better yet…inside of a classic “Mad Magazine”.
Reputable publishers wouldn’t stoop to that level…but then again, how many “reputable” publishers are still around?
Great for controversy…and great for free advertisement and promotion…but low on honest journalism and integrity.
I might add, there is a fine line between “truth in disguise” in satire, and outright character assassination, which was their (supposed) point.
I got the joke. The “New Yorker” was making fun of the “dumb asses” that have swallowed so many of the email rumors and bloggers vile innuendos that have spread such vile crap….but it wasn’t funny.
What is funny…the New Yorker was making fun of the very people that believe the crap…now that IS funny.
If you wish to send an email or call the McLauglin Group on this slur. Here is the link.
LinktoMediaMatters
Watched the show, heard the question and outside of the word “oreo” should be put into quotes, see nothing for the man to apologize FOR… McL is merely stating a question that Jackson, in his jealousy, over Obama getting what ( Jackson thinks) should rightly be his, should answer. The two who responded, is why the program is the McLaughlin GROUP, not the McLaughlin show. Remember, McL’s questions are not his opinion, but a way to getting the others to discuss the issue, no holds barred…
Medmatters doesn’t…period.
I try not to be verbose, but this article linked from Chickaboomer just po’ed me! http://nymag.com/news/media/48518/
Some of the comments ran to “how much did MSNBC pay for this puff piece.” Mine is below.
“Scarborough came up with the format himself, convinced that it played to his strengths. The show’s leisurely, conversational tone has a drive-time-radio feel. The bookers balance out the usual suspects—MSNBC stalwarts like Matthews and Pat Buchanan—with quirkier choices not seen as often on cable: Frank Rich, Hendrik Hertzberg, John Ridley. Interviews run twice as long as similar segments on competitors’ shows, allowing room for both depth and digression.
And his co-hosts provide him with the opportunity for banter and improvisation that was missing from Scarborough Country. Willie Geist (son of longtime CBS News correspondent Bill Geist) sits in front of an open laptop, of late the de rigueur prop for cable election coverage, and fills the Jimmy Olsen slot. Mika Brzezinski (daughter of former national-security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski) reads the news and acts as a gentle liberal foil to Scarborough.”
Scarborough came up with the format himself? Perhaps credit belongs in another corner. How does this read?
Imus came up with the format himself, convinced that it played to his strengths. The show’s leisurely, conversational tone has a drive-time-radio feel. The bookers balance out the usual suspects—MSNBC stalwarts like Barnicle and Pat Buchanan—with quirkier choices not seen as often on cable: Frank Rich, Tom Friedman, Douglas Brinkley. Interviews run twice as long as similar segments on competitors’ shows, allowing room for both depth and digression.
And his co-hosts provide him with the opportunity for banter and improvisation Tony Powell and Bernard McGuirk sit in front of open laptops, frontrunners of the now de rigueur prop for cable election coverage, and fill the Jimmy Olsen slot. Charles McCord reads the news and acts as a gentle foil to Imus.
The biggest difference? Imus is better!
WOW! mtnherbal that was a great analogy. Imus has more fun with the cast then he does with the comedy bits the players do.
Great comment.
An update by Peter Dykstra on his blog about the T. Boone Pickens’ plan
http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/
“By contrast, the Pickens plan generated precious little feedback from policymakers and others you’d expect would have a direct stake in this. Not a peep from the White House, nor the candidates, nor Congressional leadership. Virtually nothing from the business community, or from environmental groups.”
Interesting …no?
Queenpat – I agree with you – I never fail to watch the McL Group – I gain much insight from the back & forth – of both Democratic & Republican guests. McL sort of uses an Imus tactic when he plays the ‘Devil’s Advocate’ role. 🙂
I do not know about you folks. But our Sister site has just recently turned into a three ring circus.
There are posters there that have never been heard of before. I know I obsess over them, but it is truly turning into a free for all.
Some guy David B said. Channel can corroborate this. He said I was banned from the Hannity site for being 5 different people. Well I just went there and not only am I not banned but the site is dying. Until tonight my last post was on April 9, 2008.
Channel can help me out if he has the time. Though probably I do not need any help.
Here is the link.

Bruce: Re: IT – Still can’t get on – even though I was one of the original posters April ’07 ~ guess I’m not missing anything – on second thought – maybe I AM – missing the foolish postings of 3rd rate GITS. Bruce can you re-post them here? Just a thought – 🙂
stdomsgirl,
Can’t post them here it would take a whole page or a giant mix of garble. Still cannot understand why you cannot enter that site. I asked you this before but will ask again; Are there any other posting sites you have this problem with?
I have your email address. I can send you some if you would like. It’s just a mess. After the election I don’t know what they are going to talk about.
Bruce
The election is just what is coming up but after the election the samethings the candiates are arguing about right now will still be argued about after there is a new President elected. The discussion isn’t going to change a whole lot someone is going to be saying “I told you so” and others are going to be grinding an axe, for at least the next 4 years.
The discussion
The Economy
Two Wars
Health Care
Immigration
We are going to be changing the faces but the scenery stays the same.
Obama seems to get Afghanistan but he doesn’t get Iraq, It is Sunni vs Shite, not about lines drawn on a map by a British cartographer, I wonder if that map maker drank? I mean more then tea 🙂
mtherbal,
Mojo, had to do something after the dem primary was over I think that is what was getting them any ratings. So they have to create media buzz where there is none.
Oh look The Circus is back in town just in time…I missed you Miz Rita.
http://chickaboomer.blogspot.com/2008/07/inside-edition-hires-cosby.html
One trapped in the spam filter check out chickaboomer Rita Cosby is back.
Laree,
You forgot to add “Race” to your list…they’ll still be talking about race… who did what to whom and where and when…
…looking forward to that Rita-link…I used to like her, especially when she drove my husband bonkers…heehee… 🙂
Bruce: Re: IT – can’t get to a few other sites as well – my computer freezes up ie: Pogo.com. – was always able to. Strange! Thanks Bruce for responding – you’re a good guy 🙂
Frec…
Your husband wasn’t the “only” husband that Rita Cosby drove bonkers…LOL. Tell your husband he’s in good company. 😉
mtnherbal :
Your post 137 was right on the mark…and keep on “keeping on” being verbose!
As far as the “REV” Jesse Jackson’s comment’s go…he’s suffering from “Bill Clinton” syndrome.
Used to be “on the top and forefront” and now a younger generation has someone new to look towards….
…I might add, Obama taking to task the Afro-American people to take more responsibility in the responsibilities of family upbringing, and addressing the fact that any man can make a baby…but it takes a man to be responsible and be there to raise that child hit Jackson hard, having “fathered an illegitimate child” himself.
That…plus Jackson ran twice for the Presidency and didn’t come even close…has to really torque him off.
Get over it “Rev”….and that goes for the “First Black President”…. Bill Clinton. 🙂
Not to bother you anymore on your connection problem with our Sister Site StDomsgirl.
Did you by chance get the update from Microsoft called SP3. This may be the problem. It does very wierd stuff on certain people’s systems.
I had to remove it on mine. Also check the firewall settings on Security in Control panel. It might be too high.
Donald,
Don’t take this the wrong way. But are you an Obama supporter by chance?
Just a question. You can answer me off group.
Bruce: You’re a good friend to try to help me – I’m SO STUPID re: this computer thingy 🙂 – I don’t know how to clear the cache or remove cookies or check my firewall – don’t know if I did the Microsoft SP3 – sometimes I just click away when I see a prompt to do so. Sheesh! Wish you could come by for a cuppa & a real-time tutorial – sit beside me here at the computer & show me the ropes. 🙂
Write me again stdomsgirl and tell me all about your system. As much as you can explain it to me.
Will be glad to help you. But as I have told you I do have a very intelligent computer specialist on another group that can explain things in plain English.
I learn by doing as you do. Sometimes you have to fall before you learn how to stand up. Bad analogy.
Computers are stupid. They do what you tell them to do. There is an old acronym GIGO which is translated “Garbage in Garbage Out”.
Do not be afraid of your system. It can’t hurt you.
Write me at the address I gave you. I will forward whatever your request is to the best of the best to work with you and find out why you cannot do the things you use to do. He has helped me for over 2 years with special programs and simple instructions.
Just heard the Bernie will be hosting the Bob Grant show tonight! For anyone whose interested. WABC radio

‘Around the Bend’ brings Randy Travis back to country
Singer releases first album in genre in eight years
By BEVERLY KEEL • Staff Writer • July 15, 2008
Randy Travis today releases Around the Bend, his first country album in eight years. No, that’s not a typo. Travis, the father of country’s neo-traditionalist movement, the man whose twang is as sharp as Wisconsin cheddar, hasn’t released a country project since Carrie Underwood studied for her 11th-grade finals.
What about “Three Wooden Crosses,” you ask? Yes, it was the 2003 Country Music Association Song of the Year, but it wasn’t on a country album. It appeared on Travis’ Word Records’ gospel album, Rise and Shine, and was the first Christian label release to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart.
“We’ve been recording a lot of gospel projects over the last seven or eight years,” said Travis, who lives in Santa Fe, N.M. “I love it and it’s fun to do. But whatever I’m singing is going to sound like a country record anyway.
“I don’t even know why I hadn’t recorded a country album in that long, to be honest with you. There’s no clear-cut answer. It’s just one of those things that seemed to happen. It’s great to be back with a country record again. At the heart of it all, I’m nothing but a country singer.”
Now there’s an understatement. To many who were inspired by his 1980s albums, which contained hits such as “On the Other Hand,” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “Diggin’ Up Bones” and “I Told You So,” Travis is one of thedefinitive country singers of the past 25 years. One of the top 10 best-selling solo country artists in history, he’s sold more than 21 million albums and garnered 22 No. 1 hits, six Grammys and five CMAs.
He is credited as being the leader of the traditional country movement, which he took beyond traditional country boundaries and into the mainstream market.
Such praise makes him feel “a lot older than I am,” he said, laughing. “Actually, it makes me feel great. I joke when I say that, because it does make you realize you’ve been around the business a few years — but I got a young start! This past May I turned 49, so I’m coming up on 50.
“I think about that and think, ‘Man, it doesn’t seem possible.’ We’ve been touring for 23 years — it goes quickly. It’s been great.”
The trends don’t matter
Travis says he didn’t consider today’s current country music climate when recording the album with his longtime producer, Kyle Lehning. “I can only do what I do,” Travis said. “There are people in this business, like Reba (McEntire) and Vince (Gill), that can pretty much do any kind of format and make it work for them as singers. I am about as country as dirt.”
The album is quintessential Travis, with a hard-core country feel that’s coupled with a fresh musical approach. It’s the antithesis of formulaic; it’s the basics at their best. The album sounds great and feels good, like slipping on your favorite pair of jeans.
Around the Bend is “the 21st century version” of the music for which Travis is known, said producer Lehning.
“Music evolves and changes,” he said. “Any creative artist is not going to want to do the same things over and over. This is reminiscent of his (earlier) stuff, but it has a more modern quality to it and something I’m really proud of.”
Lehning said Travis doesn’t have a sense of what his place is in country music, and instead still views himself as a man from Marshville, N.C., who has been fortunate to be able to not only do what he loves, but make a living at it.
“When Randy makes a country record, he tries to make the best record he can, but he doesn’t ever forget how much he loves great country music and great country music singers. He’s always looking to do something that would make the Leftys (Frizzell) and Merles (Haggard) proud. . . . That music has always meant so much to him. We are never really straying too far from them.”
Searching for songs
The duo spent two years searching for songs to record for Around the Bend. Travis, who said he’s a sporadic songwriter who goes through dry spells, didn’t write any of the songs on this album. He said he’s proud of this project not because of his vocal performance, but because of the brilliant songwriting and master production of Lehning, who “hears what most of us just aren’t privileged to hear.”
The title of the first single, “Dig Two Graves,” sounds like it was tailor-made for Travis. “It made me think of something Vern Gosdin would have done years ago,” he said. “The title is a little deceiving. When you hear ‘Dig Two Graves,’ it could have gone in two directions.
“It’s really a love song, saying basically, ‘If you go before me, I might as well go, because I would have no reason for me staying.’ It’s a wonderful piece of writing.”
What are the country veteran’s goals or expectations for his music at country radio? “Just to play whatever we send,” he said with a loud laugh. “I hope country radio will just remain open to playing the stuff that Kyle and I are doing. I hope they’ll stay open to at least giving us a shot.”
Travis was so moved by the lyrics of “You Didn’t Have a Good Time” that he recited them from memory: “Your hand wrapped around the bottle, your arm wrapped around her waist/ You were running at full throttle, big smile on your face/ You were the life of the party, but it was only in your mind/ I hate to be the one to tell you, you didn’t have a good time.”
“I tell people it’s an anti-drinking song if I ever heard one,” he said. “It hit home for me because of what it was about. I could relate to it probably more than I ought to be able to relate to it, but my background is what it is and I’ve always been honest about that.” (Travis battled substance abuse in his teens.)
His wife convinced him to record the humorous “Everything That I Own (Has Got a Dent).” “It starts out like maybe Jeff Foxworthy wrote the first line: ‘I drive around with a trunk tied down with a bungee cord/ Cause I hopped a curb, backed into her new boyfriend’s Ford.’ ”
There’s even an unexpected cover of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.” Unlike most of the songs, Lehning hadn’t heard Travis sing the Dylan track before they began working on it with the studio musicians. Guitarist Brent Mason began playing the song in a Chet Atkins fingerpicking style. Lehning asked Travis, “How do you see this going down?”
Travis replied, “Whatever that thing Brent is playing, that’s it right there.”
Lehning told engineer Casey Wood, “Hey, turn it on.” The producer said, “He got everything but the intro. We had to punch the intro
Maureen Dowd, is right if we can’t make fun of Obama what’s the point in electing him?

Just wondering……….why no comments on this site re: The New Yorker Obama Satirical front page? I GOT IT – it was an in-your-face picture of what many Americans are whispering about. Both Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert spoofed it & made me laughed out loud. The inside story in the New Yorker is very positive slant toward Obama. Still, it makes me worried – worried that some people will still believe the false premise that Obama is a Muslim. {‘Not that there’s anything wrong with that’ as Jerry Seinfeld would say}. Ya gotta have sympathy for the peaceful Muslims of the world. Sheesh!
It must be the Imus vacation…
goiman thanX for the heads up on Bernie.
Tonight is a great night for the bald headed stooge not only guest hosting Bob Grant he is appearing on Hannity at 8:40. Topic is New Yorker Cover and the PC police (PC Brown Shirts) squashing the first amendment.
Bernie has Ron Insana as a guest. Could this get any better? Maybe the Iman will call in!
ChannelxRFR,
The New Yorker Cover, reminds me of someone spitting into the wind and it comes back in their faces. They have unintentionally given me a good laugh…same as The Rite Rev Jesse Jackson Thank you – Thank you, for keepin it real. Rita Cosby is back on Inside Edition. Now that is a good summer line up. I wish Imus would have Rita on just for fun.
Bernie is holding his own on Bob Grant. And did an admirable job on Bill O’Reilly.
I have the entire Bernie Bob Grant on record now. So look for it tomorrow if you are not getting it on the ABC Stream.
Will place the link here on the site.
That’s probably a good topic to swith to Channel. The New Yorker Cover.
Might get some great comments. Though actually the New Yorker is in the tank for Obama Man.
Lets start an online internet Jesse Jackson’s favorite recipes site. “Obama suprize”
http://www.recipezaar.com/28386
I mentioned on Imus Truth, lets put up photos of folks who have been hit by the Obam bus, with tire tread, photo shopped over their faces, with dates and offensives below their names…There are plenty of ways to make fun of Obama, people are not trying.
John McCain Needs a current Map of U.S.A. showing where the southern border is actually located not like on the label of Absolute Vodka.
Senator Obama -Senator McCain,
Check with the State Department, the Map you all are using is not Kosher. No wonder Obama is confused about how many states there 57? John McCain’s wife is in Beer money not Vodka money right? Who is really behind the open borders movement “not the kool aid drinkers” LOL.
All this “Bernie exposure” is making me nervous. I hope he isn’t auditioning for his own show. He is too important to Imus!
Jesse Jackson is Pissed
During the troubles Bernie was unemployable.
Why? His Imus act is as a sidekick and the timing of host does not translate. Outside of the Imus circle people didn’t know him.
Today thanks to Citadel / WABC, Bernie has the opportunity to develop his craft as a host. Appearing on O’Reilly, on a topic separate from Imus enables Bernie to raise his public profile.
Bernie is working to assure a future in broadcast and I’m enjoying the ride.
All: Re: Literary Satire ~ The New Yorker & Obama If you want to get an illustration of Satire – literally & figuratively ~ read Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts today – he cites the Irishman Jonathan Swift’s ‘A Modest Proposal’ c.1729 who satirized the plight of the poor ~ especially children. Pitts says quote ‘Satire is tricky. It makes its point by exaggerating wildly with a straight face. In inflating a thing beyond all common sense, it seeks to render inconsistancies and hypocrises glaringly apparent’ end quote. Satire seeks truth in the ridiculous – listen to Stephen Colbert when he says its all about ‘Truthiness’. By the way. I’ve been reading The New Yorker since I was 10 years old c. 1952 ~ I loved books – loved to read. Read Hugo’s Les Miserables when I was 11. I would go to the Portland Public Library on Congress Street – the old Baxter building and read past issues of The New Yorker. Why? Because I discovered Chas. Addams cartoons and The New Yorker published many. I Thought they were a riot! Does that make me an ‘elitist’? Because I ‘get it’? Have a sense of humor? I certainly hope so. Erin Go Bragh!
Speaking of Erin Go Bragh – Go Bernie! You’re an Irish gem!
OReilly talked about this last night. Virgin Mobile’s Strip2Clothe campaign.

Quick someone grab Bruce’s video camera! Pleeeease.
Good point Chanx. I am being selfish. Probably just reacting to someone somewhere sometime saying they wished Bernie would leave IITM because he wasn’t getting any face time. Agree, Go Bernie!
Bruce and camera, just listen to Amy Winehouse –
“I say eh No, No, No”
Luv ya Bruce! Thanks for Bernie on Grant. Looking forward to it.

Have updated the iMus iTunes iMix adding 7 more songs to the list…
Grazin In The Grass,
I’m Not Ashamed To Blame The Blues,
Opus de Soul,
Searchin For A Women,
Gospel Grove,
Gamblers Blues,
I’m Not Messin’ Around
These songs are iClassics. Have not found these on YouTube so they are not included in the iMus YT Video List. However, if you click on the iMus iTunes iMix the clips will provide a pretty good idea as to what’s there. Guaranteed you will recognize most if not all.
Going to take a break from the R&B iBumpers list for awhile, The 25 songs seems listed seem like a fairly representative collection. On to bigger and better things….
Don’t worry gang. My Digital Camera has yet to be set up for broadcast. Though someday it will to your chagrin. LOL
Yes Channel: Working on a project like yours is very difficult to say the least. Research is needed.
But if you want the Video’s on any artist I can get them for you. Of course they would probably be copyrighted.
The Bernie on Grant program is almost ready. So be prepared for the link. It is 71 minutes long.

Obama is pandering as usual. We need Hispanics to learn English if they want to stay in the U.S.
I don’t think Obama knows what he is talking about, there are dialects, varients. My husband was taught Castilian when he speaks to native Mexican people, they speak much faster then he does, and they have what we would call slang words, and they are different then Puerto Rican people, who have another dialect. My husbands mother corrects him if he slips into anything other then, their formal language. The interesting thing about my family, when my husband would speak to his mother in Spanish in front of us, it would be followed by a translation into English for us. Why because it is very bad manners as his mother would remind him not to speak the language everyone understood….Didn’t Obama’s mother teach him any manners, you don’t dictate to people what you think you would like them to sound like, when they travel or stay home. Really how is that any of Barack Obama’s business? Obama needs to work on his Manners, where is his Grandmother?
lol – I keep forgetting that this is a Republican site 🙂
stdomsgirl,
I don’t think the differences between Imus Times and Imus Truth are too far apart.
Ree can confirm that.
So speak your piece. It’s welcomed here.
I feel ok here Bruce – been here since the start – with you & others. In fact I remember when Ree called me a troll – a year or so ago – lol – still I stay – because am also an I-Fan
Obama is being fast and loose with his verbage does Ebonics count as another language?
verbiage
Question: Does anyone know about the status of any Maine cable company bringing Imus back? I don’t get RFD TV – I sure do miss my 6am – 9am Imus In The Morning beamed into my house every day. Sheesh! Guess am still mourning Imus In The Morning! 🙂
stdomsgirl,
Like this below, it is “military speak” a term the military uses, remember when Dick Cavett wrote that piece in the NYT complaining of how General Patraeus spoke in front of Congress, and used only Military terms ect.. for everything. This is from years of soaking in Military Verbage, they are trained to speak and write in Military terms…I slip into it sometimes, and I was only an Army wife. They are expected to read and write in common terms..or verbage.
Military.com – CareerPerfect – Client Testimonials
… Professionals, IT, Career Changers, Military, and New Grads; Sample … to cut through the clutter of unnecessary verbage, but the result is that I sell …
I don’t know about the cable company but I remember reading about Verizon picking up RFD TV ?When? Verizon is nation wide?
Obama states, I am embrassed by Americans who don’t speak a second language…he didn’t specify the ethnicity of Americans, that is a blanket statement. I am begininng to see what Jesse Jackson was referring to, in his talking down comment. This pandering to Hispanics and dissing Americans, isn’t going to play well in looped soundbytes in the newscycle. Obama needs to be more careful with his verbage…maybe he needs some herbage:)
Laree: Glad you have a sense of humor 🙂 – love the last line ‘Obama needs to be careful with his verbage..maybe he need some herbage’…. It’s too funny! Smoke em if ya got em. As far as Americans needing to learn a second language – sheesh! My Monahan clan came to America – got their Green Card – learned English – got naturalized and called themselves American-Irish rather than Irish-American. We are English-speaking people for heaven’s sake – it’s the language of most of the world. Sheesh Obama! Get a grip.
Stdomsgirl,
He stepped in it 🙂 I think he is getting tired he needs a break for awhile and recharge. These soundbytes are going to get archived and dragged out for long loops in the newscycle just in case someone in say the artic north hasn’t heard them yet.
I was listening to Sean Paul, he is Portugese, Chinese and Jamacian descent. There are so many different languages and dialects that we all listen to daily in America. There has to be a better way for Obama to say- I wish Americans had more bilingual opportunities, say growing up while attending Public School. I like Raggae, there really isn’t a musical style, I don’t like.
stdomsgirl,

Hey Bruce
Just wondering …how come it’s our “sister site” …can’t it be our “crazy old uncle in the attic site” …can you tell I’ve got nothing better to do today?
Well Mike,
I am trying to be civil. If you ever read the other IT sometimes in makes you crazy. Other times it is calm and insightful.

Mike,
I said “SOMETIMES”. Usually it’s a wonderful group of Circus performers, present Company not included.
Oh.
Bruce: I’m wicked irritated that I still can’t get on IT. Sheesh! I was one of the 1st posters there ’07. Jaysus! What a Freak Parade of IT posters. Who is leading the Freak Parade? Why, our guy Imus. A Shakespearean Jester to the world. American as apple pie – is our guy. Not that he isn’t AWFUL someimes. I digress, The IT Freak parade must be filled with the rantings of Groundings & Jesters & the modern Cyber Troll.
Stdoms:
Have you tried logging on via someone else’s computer? Maybe a neighbor, or at the library or somewhere…you could then get an idea if the problem is in your system…it sounds baffling to me, but then I’m just a trained monkey with this stuff. I have learned a bit just by “monkeying around.” Like Bruce says, it can’t hurt you. When all else fails, I take it down to the “Firedogs.”
Laree,
What is the “snakes stuff” about? That was a funny link you posted at IT. Wasn’t there a bumper-tune played recently that had snakes in the lyrics? Anyone know what it is (I could’ve still been alseep and dreaming)?
I read that the snake-rituals are based on bible text that was fabricated during a Middle Ages-translation by monks. If that’s true, then “cyber-trolling” is not new! Ha!
Frec: Thanks for the suggestion. We I-Fans are a nice lot! 🙂

Frec,
Alot of my family roots go back to Middlesboro or the surrounding area Pinesville, Clear Creek, Greasy Creek, Bell Co.,Ky. The Masons keep an eye on what going on back in the hollars:) I was going through the names on the list of arrested snake handlers, making sure one of my cousins were not rounded up and put in the caboose. When I read that article the first thing I thought of, this is how Andrea Mitchell sees all of us. The thing is those snake handlers probably don’t subscribe to the New Yorker or watch alot of Cable News so she doesn’t need to fret…why would my mind connect, snake handlers and Andrea Mitchell…hmmm.
Laree: Lol – snake oil salespersons – snake handlers & Andrea Mitchell – seems like we can ‘connect the dots’ 🙂
stdomsgirl,
Here is the link to the snake handlers. I think they are trying to charge them with child endangerment, and the exotic pets act, they were trying to get African snakes ect… On the Mason Myfamily page, people were commenting, why aren’t home grown rattlesnakes good enough? No they are not serious just being sarcastic. One of my cousins said, I trust in God’s love, he doesn’t have to prove it to me.

Laree,
My teen-aged niece was telling me they differentiate between “the holler” and “the boondocks,” the boondocks being worse. Do you have any idea what that means…I couldn’t ask her too many questions, but it left me scratching my head. I know they look at me as being too close to “the New Yorker crowd.” Ha!
Hi Frec,
In West Virginia, where my Diana comes from, there are Hollers. Hollers were from the old days when you didn’t have a telephone.
Usually poor folk lived there. Up a hill in the woods. But there are middle class people that technically live in a Holler now.
Boondocks is an Eastern word. If you live in the boondocks you are poor I believe. Also without looking it up it means, a long way away hidden.
Thanks for that information, Bruce. From the way my niece was talking, I didn’t know if that was something the kids had made up, i.e. holler-vs-boondocks. I knew it wasn’t anything between races, but I figured it was something between groups. The culture in that area (as reflected by the kids) is changing because they aren’t isolated anymore – they have cell phones, the internet and satellite TV! 🙂
Frec,
passed over by civilization 🙂

Hello Cindy…It’s me… the Kentucky definition for “holler monkey” is a hillbilly that lives deep in the sticks and doesn’t get out in the real world much. And “holler” would be slang for hollow, road, drive or whatever, but here we would say that I “live up a holler”
Amazing how we live in the same country and speech can be so different. Go ahead, I know you are laughing at me… :o)

I found the most wonderful account of the difference btw rural and town dwellers in Appalachia. I will try to post the link. I was just reading it, there are some really interesting story tellers from Appalachia.

Depending on your age you do remember the song “Down In the Boondocks” sung by Billy Joe Royal. Written by Joe South. Circa 1965
Bruce: Yup re: Down in the Boondocks – around the same time as ‘I fought the law & the law won’ was sung. 🙂
All: question – the new catch phrase for a solution in Iraq from Bush/McCain/Petraus is a ~ ‘Time Horizen’ is that the same as the ‘Lost Horizen’? Lol 🙂
Re: THE SURGE in Iraq – yup it has worked – there is a great SURGE of violence against our troops in Afghanistan. Sheesh
This is Obama’s definition of success
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/07/19/sunnis-formally-rejoin-maliki-government/
Al Qeada is many different countrys all over the world the idea isn’t to give them a safe haven.
I have no idea what Time Horizen is, sounds like more Military verbage so they don’t have to same time line or time table. George Carlin would have hacked this to pieces in minutes upon hearing of it.
This Time Horizon thing is going to hurt McCain, I hope he doesn’t endorse it. The argument that has been seared into the American Publics mind through repetition in the MSM is that we can’t set ANT time table or time line for troop withdrawl calling it a “Time Horizon” even if you nuance it will NOT work it will look like Political Speak for withdrawl..just like the Republicans accused the Democrats of Cut and Run they will start a soundbyte with “time horizon, time line, time table” ect. Who was the Military/Government spokeperson, who decided to go with this term? this is not gonna help John McCain, I hope he restakes his position no telegraphing withdrawl to the enemy.
NATO is also in Afghanistan, the British were tasked with destroying the poppy fields -heroin industry. That hasn’t happened, that is how the Taliban fund themselves in the end we are fighting Drug Dealers. We fought the Drug Cartels in Columbia there is a good book “Killing Pablo”…Mexico is fighting Drug Cartels, who look like they using Columbia for their model. They say those Mexican Drug Cartels are controlling the gangs in American Cities this is where all the violence is coming from.
Somewhere George Carlin is doing event horizon schtick but we can’t hear him 🙂 I miss George Carlin.
sorry ANY time table.
Mexico’s Drug Cartels look like they are using Columbia Drug Cartel’s model for opperations. Mark Bowden who wrote “Black Hawk Down” also wrote “Killing Pablo” as in Pablo Escobar, Columbian Drug King Pin.
The Taliban is not just fighting American troops in Afghanistan, they are also fighting NATO Countries troops.
Ree,
Good point regarding NATO in Afghanistan. This action is a multinational effort involving international and regional diplomacy as well as deployments. Why is Obama so quick to unilaterally commit US troops to the fight? BO missed the Iraq surge and is now attempting to apply that solution to Afghanistan.
The key to Afghanistan? A Pakistani diplomatic solution along with increased NATO presence.
Wasn’t the contention about Iraq, the whole burden was on the US with minimum international participation which lacked an effective regional diplomatic component?
So why is BO pursuing a unilateral approach to Afghanistan without a Pakistani understanding in place?
ChannelXRFR,
Remember both McCain and Obama speaking to La Raza – The Race? Obama I am embrassed Americans do not speak more then one language, Americans should be learning “Spanish” I asked above any Spanish dialect? or does Obama have a specific Spanish dialect in mind? This is where both McCain and Obama are weak. Pandering to 8% of the American Electorate is going to cost them, among the Independents. McCain at least is calling for Border Security, Obama not so much. I think this is the reason he is going down in the polls among Independents.
The War on Drugs, we just got back hostages from Colombian FARC, Those people are free but they worry about the folks who didn’t get rescused, with good reason. We are fighting Drug Dealers in many different countries. Look at Afghanistan if people look at the geography the southern part of Afghanistan, the area is resistant to The Central Govt of Afghanistan, the south is where the poppy crops are located. The Taliban funds itself with “poppy juice”
We have a border problem in Afghanistan per Pakistan, we have a border problem right here with Mexico. What is the CIA’s Plan? The difference btw Mexico and Pakistan it that Pakistan is a Nuclear Armed Country it is a tougher Nut to Crack – Jesse Jackson knows what I mean 🙂
So Obama is worried about Afghanistan’s Violence but not the U.S.A.? This is inconsistent, this is what happens when you “politicize” National Security.
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2008/07/15/ldt.wian.border.drug.wars.cnn
ChannelXRFR,
This is per The Bristish being tasked with destroying the poppy crop in Afghanistan. Someone changed their minds, why? “Social Shock” to Afghans is the reason I guess.
What is the C.I.A.’s plan for these mulitiple challenges to our National Security…what is Foggy Bottoms’ position- The State Department not concerned?
http://www.afpc.org/asm/asm84.shtml
You know I remember it was either Judge Roberts or Judge Alito who stated they could not see Roe vs Wade overturned because of the “Social Shock” to the Country.
Does John McCain understand why their is so much opposition to his “Comphrehensive Immigration Plans” ? Does he understand “Social Shock” when the Politicians break off more then the American Public can chew-absorb. I think Obama is in Politician mode so he doesn’t take into account how his words about this issue are being absorbed by all of the United States Citizens, who are paying attention. We are not all at Sunday worship services handling Snakes BIG GRIN.
This is one of my favorite authors Mark Bowden, this is his blog for his last book, Guest of the Ayatollah.
http://iran.theatlantic.com/blog/index.php?/archives/52-Killing-Pablo.html
The British seem to have a “Placate Strategy”. They never really solve a problem whether its Bassra or Southern Afghanistan.
ChannelXRFR, and the British call us Americans, Parochial which is their nice way of calling us Provincial. Then they break for tea time 🙂
I have been watching Fox News the Dems are still arguing about the Past. They should take a cue from Bill Clinton, he was always speaking to the future as in the bridge to the 21st century. The Dems don’t seem to get that they have their base, they need to work on the Independents and Swing Votes. I am not impressed so far, Obama’s foreign policy focus appears to be the “Glass is Half Empty” tact. We are coming up on the 7th anniversary of 9/11, how are the canidates going to argue, why we don’t have border or port security? Life could be better in America with less Politics and more Statesmenship.
We should put up a big birthday card blog for Imus’s birthday on the 23rd.
The return of the Prodigal Imus. Just in time.
In the nick of time! God’s Other Son, Returns….
Glad to have the show back. Really tickled by this morning’s choice of bumper-tunes…my two most-recently attended live concerts have been ZZ Top and George Thorogood. Btw, George looks better today than ever… Years ago, I attended another ZZ Top concert and the warm-up act was George Thorogood… 🙂
Frec,
I like Kenny Wayne Sheppard, what’s going on are all the hard cases hanging out in New Mexico?
Someone was querying about which radio stations were carrying Imus in the Morning. I forget if it was this site or Imus Truth? They were looking for a local radio station near them?
This has a list of radio stations carry Imus in the Morning, it is updated it even has today’s Richmond Virginia radio station mentioned this morning.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imus_in_the_Morning
Kenny Wayne Shepherd looks okay in this slide show. If you like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, you would like the group “Days of the New”

Z Z Top was the band that opened the Cumberland County Civic Center in 1977 – Portland Maine ~ I was there – they were great! Re: Kenney Wayne Shepherd – he’s great too!
To those in the know: has Imus or Lou ever played Stevie Ray Vaughn’s “Oreo Cookie Blues” as a bumper? That tune makes us laugh like no other… 🙂
Bumpers today were awesome. Every time Lou let loose this am my ears perked up. Having downloaded and listened to the iMus R&B iMix iTunes over the past two weeks have become very familiar with these pieces.
Laree,
You’re going to LOVE this link…regional dialects of Appalachian English (i.e., hillbilly talk!). Found on Craig’s blog.
http://www.kentucky.com/181/story/466236.html
Be sure to look at the map of “blue dots” and click to hear audios of various regional samples. Reminds me of the chapters in “Albion’s Seed” in which Fischer descripes the speech patterns that migrated to America from the British Isles.
Ya want the sound of British speech – come to New England & pahk ya cah in the yad – then listen to any Brit say the same thing – lol – 🙂
Here is the 9 O’Clock hour for Imus in the morning today July 21, 2008
Enjoy
BrucesMySpacePresentations
My tower started smoking about an hour ago I am using my neighbors we were trying to install an new hard drive I think my power supply blew again my husband had just replaced it before he left. I should have left well enough alone oh well It is difficult to get upset about technology every time it goes bluey.
I love the different accents from all over the place, Maine is great too. Boston, New York. That blue dot from Mississippi sounded real familar I wonder how many Mississippi transplants I have ran into?
Frec, Appalachia held onto some real archaic language -words, and manners, they would slop their tea into their saucer then drink it. They said the closest to old elizabethan at one time. I think it is from being off the beaten path. My Mother in law sent me a copy of a book about the Acadians, that hid during the removal up in Quebec. A hundred years in the forrest, they came out speaking, like they went in but as is common, language changes over time, they sounded antiquated. I remember hearing storys about my grandfather, how he would eat his peas with his knife, my grandmother hated it…I guess it wasn’t refined. Up in the North West-Monatana, when we say we are going somewhere we will say “lets book” lets get bookin.
Laree – Ha! My favorite degenerate boss would always “book” after lunch on Friday, and any day the sun was shining. Storms, and especially blizzards and hurricanes, would bring him in to take attendance. God, I love that guy – bless his pointy little head! He took “early retirement” on June 30 and is riding his motorcycle down here to see me in October!
The “Oreo Cookie Blue”
Well …I guess you’ve got to add Springsteen to the bumper list now …”Glory Days” is a good tune for the list.
Frec,
When ever my daughter would point out the obvious to my eldest sister, she would tell her “No sh*t little beaver” Oh N.O.W. would really hate my family 🙂 I don’t know one of my sisters, who don’t think of themselves as Independent. We don’t come from tender foots, and language just doesn’t shock us. Tony telling Imus, to man up Bitch, then Wyatt picking it up too funny. Imus waking up un easy about what is going on in the country. No one should under estimate American Ingenuity, Necessity is the mother of invention. The thing is you don’t grow as a human being through Pleasure, it is when life confronts you with challenges, that you grow, you add “Depth” to your character, maybe this is a good thing for the generations coming up, who have not experienced much economic upheaval or adversity.
That is my main problem with Obama, he is all style, it comes off as shallow lacking substance (Green) It doesn’t help that the people he is surrounding himself with give off the same elite air of condescension. Example Andrea Mitchell. Folks are like moths re Obama, he looks to be the new power broker so they are attracted to the Source. There is an old Greek Myth about flying to close to the Sun Icarus?
If you had told me that the phrase NHH could effect the entire Nation, and actually have young women come out and act as if that is the worse thing you have ever heard or has happened in their lives, well that is a sheltered life. Or they got caught up in the drama…Sticks and Stones. There is something wrong if this is the shape of the generations coming up, they are so delicate, vunerable, fragile, that a soundbyte can effect their self image? Maybe some hard times are in order so they have something to compare to?
Interesting that Imus is now “undecided.” Good place to be, I say. What’s the rush?
Imus complained the wind farms ruin the scenery, but I think they’re an amazing sight and we should have more of them. I’m with Charles, they’re photogenic in themselves…we signed up for a “wind farm tour” and took lots of pictures of them last year when we visited Palm Springs. I hope we get used to seeing them because I’m sick of seeing $4.40+ posted on our gas pumps.
Here’s a link to the American Wind Energy Association.
http://www.awea.org/
Imus undecided? Is certainly good news for McCain…
Was in Palm Springs a couple of weeks ago. Drove past those wind farms at about 80 mph. They are spectacular in their own way. Biggest eyesore are the older windmills rusting and standing dormant. Didn’t realize there is a tour, you’ll have to hook me up frec!
Mike that’s music..
According to his website and Wiki, Ferlin Husky is still with us and performing at the Grand Old Opry…..
Frec,
We saw the turbines in the Baltic Sea a couple of years ago. Amazing sight. However, I wish there was something that could be designed into the turbine that wouldn’t make them so lethal to birds. Millions of birds are killed each year by the turbines, including songbirds and birds of prey, even if they are not in the path of migration. Otherwise a great energy source.
Researching Col Jack, came across this awesome interview;

Mike,
How did you fix your wonder/wander thing from this morning? Is there a way for us to correct our “typos,” etc. One time I really screwed up and had to get help from ChanX (thanks, Chan.) 🙂
I sure do agree with everything T. Boone Pickens said to the I-Man this morning. Like, “every bit helps,” and “we need to be doing everything” to break our dependence on oil imports. He didn’t specifically say develop more nuclear, but we need to be doing that too.
ChanX:
I’m pretty sure this was the tour we took of the wind farms near Palm Springs. The tour was interesting and enlightening.
http://www.windmilltours.com/faq.htm
LindaBB: I believe the issue of bird-fatalities is being addressed. It is something the industry is working on because it concerns people (like me). They point out that fewer birds die from wind turbines than other human factors -shooting, for example. I have a couple of birds a year fly into my kitchen window, and it’s just a plain old garden variety window. My husband noted we saw no bird-carcasses lying around the turbines, and he doubts they go out there and clean them up every day.
Like everything “new” the bugs have to be worked out. Thank God for engineers and technicians.
What did Bernie say about the basketball brawl?
Compare this art to the New Yorker Cover. I have not heard anyone complaining about this Cartoon.

Pickens was great this AM. Its funny the initial reporting made it sound like Pickens was pro energy alternative and anti drilling. Its great to hear he has a broad perspective.
Thanks for the info frec. BTW You caught me fixing mikes wonder/wander!
I lived in Houston in the 70s and 80s. T. Boone Pickens was a folk-hero even then in that overgrown cowtown. He doesn’t seem 80! Gives me hope if the I-Man keeps taking good care of himself, he’ll have another 20-or-so birthdays after this one!
I have another trip to California next week. Will be my first visit to San Francisco…any suggestions for sites or food?
This is one of the best support videos, I have viewed for McCain. Pretty Words vs Manly deeds.
Frec, Check out the Alcatraz tour, will not disappoint. Another interesting tour is the Cable Car Museum.
My breakfast place is Lori’s Dinner. There are 4 Lori’s in the city located at Mason, Sutter, Ghirardelli and Powell. Mason is open 24 hours ~ don’t ask ~ http://www.lorisdiner.com.
Recommend Gordon Biersch. Restaurant is located at Harrison and Embarcadero, has great views of the Bay Bridge. Also reccomend the Daily Grill on Geary across from the St Francis Hotel on Union Square.

ChanX,
Thanks for those ideas…we’re booked on the Alcatraz tour…still need to fill in several time blocks, so I’ll look into your good suggestions. May sound tedious to some, but looking forward to a keynote speech by George Will…will be a highlight for my inner wonk. Most of our vacations mix work-and-fun, but we like it that way 🙂
“How did you fix your wonder/wander thing from this morning? Is there a way for us to correct our “typos,” etc. One time I really screwed up and had to get help from ChanX (thanks, Chan.) :)”
Frec
As you already know …you just have to hope that on the day you make typos, ChanX isn’t really, really busy doing something else. Taking you’re time while typing works sometimes, too (I think). It also helps to be wide awake (or as close as you can get to it at 7:00am).
Frec, You’re going to love Alcatraz, it’s a place I always bring people. Never disappoints. Fort Point next to the GSB is a great walk from the Wharf, interesting museum there as well.
If you have time to take in a baseball game the stadium is an awesome experience.
Too Bad, too Sad. Obama is a loser
Don’t see how Obama loses. Seems like so many people have bought into BHO’s change thing. Have been listening to him all week, every time he speaks there is an OMG moment. His whole response to the surge is nonsense. His response to energy $12/gal gas, what can you say? And so it goes!
Check Huffington every day to learn what travesty McCain has visited upon the nation. My typical response – Huh? The insanity of the constant chatter of commenters is numbing.
ChannelXRFR,
I posted the McCain Money Bomb above, and over on Imus Truth someone posted the buy an Obama button, it seems the theme is raising money. Does this have something to do with all the back and forth in the Media. I could get whiplash 🙂 Is this all staged to raise money? They are getting the base worked up to raise money for their party? Money, Money, Money.
Monica Crowley posted something about the Obama World tour, that was funny, she referred to the Three Network Heads as the 3 Horsemen of the Appocalypse.
It is getting confusing. I am at the stage whoever gets rid of the word police, the sad sacks, the sour people, are the most likely to get my vote. Yes I have lowered my expectations.
“His response to energy $12/gal gas, what can you say?”
I don’t understand what you mean by that. I must have missed something somewhere.
Whoever one is for …or not in this election season, you’d have to admit that Sen. McCain has been less than impressive on the campaign trail recently. If Sen. Obama is the “empty suit” that Imus called him yesterday (?), he still manages to impress in a “first glance” manner. Sen. McCain needs to be much more aware of this and he needs to get his facts straight (well, they both do) if he’s going to have a chance.
Me …I’m still on the fence …it’s not comfortable up here.
BHO has forecasted gas at $12/gal, part of his rationalization to move away from a fossil based economy. No to drilling, no to shale, no to nukes, nobama. Pickens “do everything” approach resonates with me.
Ree, When Obama becomes president their will be repercussions! I think we all need to buy that Obama button.
Some cut and paste from CNN’s Election Center
Said he does not support a federal gas tax holiday and called it a “classic Washington gimmick.” Voted for an Illinois gas tax holiday while in the Illinois State Senate. “Six months later we took a look, and consumers had not benefited at all, but we had lost revenue. I learned from a mistake.” Would suspend purchasing oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and advocates a windfall profits tax on oil companies. Stated in a presidential debate that “we should explore nuclear power as part of the energy mix.” Against lifting federal government restrictions on offshore drilling and opposes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Proposes reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050 by using a market-based cap-and-trade system. Would invest $150 billion over 10 years in clean energy. Supports next generation biofuels. Proposes increasing fuel economy standards and would require that 25 percent of electricity consumed in the U.S. is derived from clean, sustainable energy sources by 2025. Would create a Global Energy Forum and re-engage with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
· Double fuel economy standards within 18 years while maintaining current flexibility.
· Provide retooling credits to help domestic manufacturers switch to more fuel-efficient cars.
· Mandate all new cars be flex-fuel capable.
· Support advanced technology, including research into lightweight materials, new engines and plug-in hybrids.
· Lift 60,000 vehicle-per-manufacturer cap on hybrid tax credits.
· Support creation of more transit-friendly communities and require states to make energy conservation part of transit planning in order to receive federal transportation funds.
· Level employer commuting assistance for driving and public transit.
· Work to reduce carbon emissions 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.
· Invest $150 billion in renewable energy over the next 10 years.
· Keep ban on offshore drilling.
· Require utilities to get a certain percentage of their power from renewable sources.
This, apparently, is Sen. Obama’s positions on energy.
I see no to offshore drilling there, but nothing about shale. there is a “positive” reference to nuclear (did I spell that the same way W pronounces it?). There’s, also, a lot of vague generalities here, too.
Mike, sounds like tax, tax, tax to me. ChanX
…ummm, I don’t know about tax, tax, tax …maybe just tax, tax. That’s ione of those vague generalities I mentioned…
Hey! Barack! How you gonna pay for this stuff!!!
I’m sure he’s got an answer …maybe even a couple of answers …take you’re pick.
But those 45 nuclear plants that McCain wants built aren’t going to be cheap either …will the industry want some government assistance with that? Drilling for oil offshore or anywhere is a 10-year plus venture. What do we do until then.
Oh yeah …T. Boone Pickens. At least he’s got “a plan”, not just a bunch of one-liners …his ideas though, also, have a price tag attached. Everybody get ready …taxtaxtax.
Mike08exdem,
Yes it is uncomfortable on the fence. I am trying my best to outline the pros and cons for each.
Okay McCain is stronger on National Security and Foreign Policy
Domestically, he is doing his best not to fall into George Bush 41’s trap on the economy. That is my read on his Domestic positions.
Obama is like this wrapped box you don’t get to open till after you elect him to find out what is inside.
What is a positive for Obama, he isn’t Clinton or Bush?
Obama is weak on this Foreign Policy and National Security. I blame his advisors if he is going to be President, he needs to scrub the 300, and get all new advisors. better ones 🙂
The odd thing here is if Obama shrugs his shoulders over $12.00 a gal for gas, that kind of puts him in President Bush 41’s mold. Not a good place to be politically.
I don’t think, I want either one of them to do anything if elected just hold the line, and try not to screw the country up anymore then it is. Lowered Expectations.
This is so funny, stephen colbert.

I guess I’m playing “devil’s advocate” for Sen. Obama tonight …how’d that happen, anyway?
“Obama is weak on this Foreign Policy and National Security.”
Is he really weak on these issues …or is he just perceived to be because Sen. McCain is automatically given the “street creds” for foreign policy and security? Just wondering.
“The odd thing here is if Obama shrugs his shoulders over $12.00 a gal for gas…”
Whatever remarks he made along this line I just plain-old missed. Can’t comment …wish I could.
It’s too late to “just hold the line” …we can thank W for that. Somebody has to get us all “off the dime” and working towards a common purpose …but what purpose …and who’s that somebody?
T Boone’s do everything is about private/commercial funding to address the US energy.
let’s not forget that t boone wa also behind the swift boat crap. and he renigged on the million dollar chalenget. that guys so “snaked in the head” Perot told him to get a “check up from he neck up”.
All: If you can handle the truth – I suggest you tune in to the TRUTHINESS of Stephen Colbert – his ‘tongue in cheek’ slant on the ’08 election is ‘right on’. Jon Stewart is another good source/take on our ’08 election. Re: T. Boone he’s a closet Bushie. I pay no attention to him – he’s just another ‘talking head’ with millions of dollars in his very deep pockets.
I’m sure glad we got that whole Ferlin Husky settled. It was really bothering me.
…Ferlin Husky thing settled. (wake up, you dope)
Re: Ferlin ‘Since you’ve gone’ – Jayus! What year was that song sung? I think it was around the time Little Richard was singing ‘Lucille’ – which was the 1st record I ever bought – it was a 45 – Gawd! I’m ‘long in the tooth’ {If I HAD any teeth} – lol
IMO
Pickens.. Bad On Swift Boats, Good On Energy.
Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz… Occasionally funny, in the tank for the left, factually challenged, takes himself to seriously.
Dr. Stephen T. Colbert… Often funny “as a well-intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot”, caricature of Papa Bear BOR, unpretentious.
I never heard of Ferlin, he was a little before my time.
Hey for all you Jersey Shore folks here is a circa 1960 look at the Seaside Heights Boardwalk.
Albina if you’re still checking in you’ll love this.
For those of us who grew up in Appalachia and had only one daytime radio station, Ferlin Husky can be a most dreaded memory. Oft times thot if never ever again heard “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove” it would be too soon!
Trying to log on to Imus on Air and getting “server too busy.” Never seen this before; any ideas?
Listening to Imusonair right now. Maybe the server reached capacity or maybe it is temporarily confused. They are running PSAs right now so you’re not missing much. Keep trying.
mtherbal,
My mom would sing it to me all the time remember juke boxes that is what she would play when we would go to restraunts and Pistol Packin Mama, remember that one? Oh and Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire, she loved Ring of Fire. My Mom was a big time Hank Williams Fan.
The youtube Bruce posted of all the 60s hits, I knew all those tunes because of my older sisters…I must have been a difficult child, they were always singing to me! I have memorys of my eldest sister dancing with me on her hip and singing to me, we are 10 years apart.
lyrics, Pistol Packin Mama don’t take your gun to town )
Pistol Packin Mama,
Pistol Packin’ Mama by Al Dexter, 1943
Drinkin’ beer in a cabaret And I was havin’ fun!
Until one night she caught me right, And now I’m on the run
Lay that pistol down Babe, Lay that pistol down,
Pistol Packin’ Mama, Lay that pistol down.
She kicked out my windshield, She hit me over the head,
She cussed and cried, and said I lied, And I wished that I was dead.
Lay that pistol down Babe, Lay that pistol down,
Pistol Packin’ Mama, Lay that pistol down.
Drinkin’ beer in a cabaret, And dancing with a blonde,
Until one night she shot out the light, Bang! That blonde was gone.
Lay that pistol down Babe, Lay that pistol down,
Pistol Packin’ Mama, Lay that pistol down.
I’ll see you every night Babe, I’ll woo you every day,
I’ll be your regular Daddy, If you’ll put that gun away.
Lay that pistol down Babe, Lay that pistol down,
Pistol Packin’ Mama, Lay that pistol down.
Lay that pistol down Babe, Lay that pistol down,
Pistol Packin’ Mama, Lay that pistol down.
Now down there was old Al Dexter, He always had his fun,
But with some lead. she shot him dead, His Honkin’ days are done.
Recorded in 1943 by Al Dexter, an ol’ East Texas boy from Troup.
the Graphics on this youtube for Pistol Packin Mama would make great avatars
Ree – It may be indicative of my home life that my dad used to sing “Pistol” to my mom!
