Christopher Hitchens takes his turn expressing this critical point(with his customary greatness):
Let us give hearty thanks and credit to Rudy Giuliani, who has never by word or gesture implied that we would fracture any kind of “ceiling” if we elected as chief executive a man whose surname ends in a vowel.
Yet actually, it would be unprecedented if someone of Italian descent became the president of the United States and there was a time — not long ago at that — when the very idea would have aroused considerable passion. Now that it doesn’t, is it not possible to think that that very indifference is the real “change”?
[…]
People who think with their epidermis or their genitalia or their clan are the problem to begin with. One does not banish this specter by invoking it. If I would not vote against someone on the grounds of “race” or “gender” alone, then by the exact same token I would not cast a vote in his or her favor for the identical reason. Yet see how this obvious question makes fairly intelligent people say the most alarmingly stupid things.
These opening paragraphs don’t hint at the brilliance of the rest of this piece, so you can read it here.
Hitchens – the brilliant {well, maybe bright} agnostic has done it again – given us food for thought. But, aren’t we all a bit ‘clannsh’ – tribal’?
*clannish
I think we are, stdomsgirl, but his point, and MLK’s, and JCSS’s for that matter was to get past that.
Hitchens….one of my favorite “I-Faves”. For those that missed my last posting…I’m going to put it on here…because it’s important…LOL:
IMANFAN (post # 59):
Thank you! That will be in my “New Collection” of Best of Imus!
P.T.: Regarding your post #51 on the ” Economic Stimulus”….
I don’t know how to read her either, but she has validity in her post.
My wife and I had an “uncomfortable exchange” last night over these band-aides being applied to the economy…LOL.
Her position was, that the Fed rate drop was great and would encourage companies to borrow more money and hire more employees, and mortage rates would become more affordable.
My take: It won’t help. My reasoning is this: It doesn’t address the problem… the problem being: Those that are suffering the most will not benefit. Picture millions of Americans that have lost high paying jobs and are now, currently working (if they are fortunate enough) for half of what they used to make. These are the people that have now become bad credit risks. The banks won’t lend to them. In addition, the banks can borrow at a lower rate…and will acerbate the problem of companies that needed capital to move operations OUT of the country…further fueling the problem. As all corporations, the money will be channeled and funded towards more profit…and they don’t wish, nor want, to invest in THIS country…or it’s workers. The American People.
As for George W. Bushes’ plan to spend billions on “rebates”…where does that money come from?. Even if lower income people receive those rebates…it will be to “try to catch up” on bills overdue…and NOT (as some delusional economists think) wind up back into investment…or savings accounts.
Right now, as I am typing this…our country is suffering from the outsourcing of well paid jobs. The less you make, the less the Federal Government takes in ….and the same goes for the States, and our Cities. The fable of all those “New Jobs” that have been created is, in fact, just a fable. You can’t take millions of hard workers jobs and cut their wages in half…and get ANY revenue. I’m not Alan Greenspan…but I know THAT much….
I must put this quote on…because it does matter… From the above Vanity Fair article written by Christopher Hitchens:
“I shall not vote for Sen. Obama and it will not be because he — like me and like all of us — carries African genes. And I shall not be voting for Mrs. Clinton, who has the gall to inform me after a career of overweening entitlement that there is “a double standard” at work for women in politics; and I assure you now that this decision of mine has only to do with the content of her character. We will know that we have put this behind us when — as with the vowel — we have outgrown and forgotten the original prejudice.”
Regardless of your personal choices in this Presidential race…well put, and food for thought….
Love the line “overweening entitlement”. That is exactly how the Clintons view themselves. Like they “know better” than any one else and how could you not possibly vote for them.
As I was listening to the speech Monday two paragraphs jumped out at me. Maybe because they don’t get publicized as much. Maybe it’s because of what we went thru these past few months, both the I-Man and some of us personally.
Has it become the “Un-Civil” rights, movement? Or is there hope?
I have problems with Mr. Hitchens..denigration of Christians..so I am hesitant of giving any support to his comments. Pt..I think the answer to that kind of depends on what you mean by the civil rights movement…I think that “movement” has splintered into several groups. You have the Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson…you have the Moderates like the SDLC, and then you have the new generation of the civil rights movement..i.e. Obama..so I think you have to ask..what is the civil rights movement today before you can ask anything else.
After reading the article, there are two things that came to mind:
1. The implication, or conclusion he seems to be trying for is that there should be no races, that we are the human race. Well, that is not true for many reasons. All you have to do to know this is to have diverse friends. If you go to one of my african-americans friends house for dinner, and go to my Puerto Rican or Mexican friend’s dinner, it is going to be different food, different atmosphere, different language (for me). Over the years, we as a people have developed cultures within our races, and that I find really fascinating. MY best friend, who is mexican, got married to this Korean girl a few months ago, and it was really intriguing…to have three different cultures, three different races (whites, latinos, asians) all there celebrating. I love the diversity of this country and would not want to trade it for anything.
2. Hitchens makes this statement about how Obama is trying to get us to vote for him because of his race, which is actually OPPOSITE of how he is trying to run his campaign. The only reason that race is a factor is because Hillary brought it up.
Being raised in the white south, there is a lot of latent racism there..and I don’t like that. But I don’t want blandness either. A lot of the highlights of my life has been interacting with and being with different people from different cultures. And the cool thing is..we are all God’s people, but each of our races and cultures are different. Politically it matters because it does shape the point of view. I do not believe that we should be choosing candidates on Race alone, but that does not mean that we need to go to this postmodern, one-world view, that everyone is raceless.
Can’t get past the ‘blood’ thing – its thicker than water. Period.
1st I stand for one of ‘my own’ then I’ll stand for the other who stands for me.
Stdoms..who is your own?
I mean, blood is thicker than water, but that usually means family
The problem is that..our own is a subjective term. For me..”my own” refers to my family and close friends. For some people, it is an entire race, or country..although that does beg the question..when you get down to close friendships, if you would support
“your people” in a general way before your friend. This I have a problem with.
My ‘own’ are the people of the world – especially those who have less than I or have no voice. The ‘underdog’ – The least among us.
Ok stdoms..dont see how this relates to the article, but I echo your sentiment.
Jonathan – Amen! I am being esoteric & Catholic at the same time. 🙂
Being a Hitchens fan, I just loved reading the article and have a few thoughts. I think that he is commenting on our tendencies to use stereotypes as a direct result of visual observation. He recognizes all the differences, but emphasizes visual observance doesn’t tell us all. The difference lies in the determination of color or race, which Hitchens says is not one in the same. As an example, he mentions Colin Powell, whose heritage is West Indian. Obama’s family has not had the American Black history to instill is him, not that he hasn’t had some of the experiences of a black in America. With a white mom and a Dad of Kenyan citizenship, his family didn’t survive slavery or segregation.
Hitchen’s quote:
“What are we trying to “get over” here? We are trying to get over the hideous legacy of slavery and segregation. But Mr. Obama is not a part of this legacy. His father was a citizen of Kenya, an independent African country, and his mother was a “white” American. He is as distant from the real “plantation” as I am. How — unless one thinks obsessively about color while affecting not to do so — does this make him “black”?”
That’s just my take on Hitchen’s article. I think he sees this from a European sensitivity, as well.
Obama brings much to the table that could be good for America, though I like McCain. Because of our visual confirmation that O is black, we will get all the benefits in his election. I see no benefits with the election of Ms C. Just MHO.
As an aside, been enjoying the show and loving the interviews. Imus is the best interviewer and those that come on the show are ready for a fun ride and seem to be raring to go!
Thanks to all for the thoughtful posts. It is a fun part of the day, to see what everyone is thinking.
Jonathon, you’re right, Obama should be treated as anyone would, and that’s how most have been treating the situation. Same with Clinton re: being the first woman president. But Clinton plays the gender card and gets away with it. Obama has not played that card. Whoever we elect makes history. It doesn’t need to be a “first”, to be history. Every American election is about as big as history gets.
Just wish Obama had been a bit bolder in stating the principles during the Imus frenzy last April, but then he was still worried he wouldn’t be accepted by the Black community. The fact that he is being accepted is great news! Why should “white” America be at all surprised if blacks like Obama? He’s outstanding. For important emotional issues at the very least for this country and the world, he would have profound impact, no doubt. On to the most important issue therafter, national security, having already done Iraq, an Obama president would be more circumspect, but would he be too hesitant in future crises? But when he talks about abandoning our gains there, it worries me that he just does not get it. The military knows the right thing to do, if a president listens to them, the correct choice will always be there. I hope. The inexperience is a bit scary.
The Clintons poison the well because they know how these emotions(race–this is coming out because of the SC primary where race is very big and sort of old school) play to get them into power. Imus is not kidding when he calls her Satan, I’m thinking this more and more. I mean it’s sort of a joke, but their techniques are evil. The idea that they have “no bottom” seems about right. Race did not need to be a part of this campaign in this way. She’s not leading. Like she did on the war, she plays to the base emotions. She does not have a principled spine. McCain has been clear on the war, and right, even when it was fatally unpopular to do so. Hillary never once took a courageous position. Not one. Her only courage is self-serving.
I think we should all get behind Obama to take every chance we can to get Hillary and Bill OUT for good. If we miss in the primary, another chance with McCain. McCain is not only a Hillary beater, he’s also something to vote for, not the “lesser of 2 evils.” This is our last chance to have a guy like this be president.
Anyway, back to Jonathon’s early point, you’re agreeing on the principle that matters in Hitchens’ article, that any politician should be considered regardless of their race or gender for the principles they stand for, issue positions, and whatever other criteria come under consideration. Like a job interview, it’s illegal to consider race or gender or age in the hiring decision. That’s the MLK and feminist ideal, to be considered equal, to have race or gender removed as considerations, to have those barriers removed on the path to liberty.
Well…
Not so sure that I agree that race and gender should not be a consideration. They should not be THE primary consideration, but I think you have to consider it, especially in Obama’s case. One cannot ignore the fact that electing an african-american as president would be very historic, as well as a woman, Not only that, but both of them because they are a woman and african american can have different perspectives on life and a presidency which has to be factored into the choice. It is one thing to acknowledge and celebrate the fact that they are not white men, but it is a problem to vote for the person only because of their race or gender
As far as Hillary goes, I honestly go with what Bernie had to say yesterday. She is a person who knows what she is talking about and she knows how to go in and negotiate with these barbarians around the world and get what we want. Now, her tactics are despicable and her husband is a serial filanderer…but that does not mean that she would not make a good president in my view…Obama is preferable though. Its like Carville said in one of the best interviews ever today…democrats like the two candidates.
As far as McCain goes, I respect him tremendously and respect his foreign policy knowledge. But I question his domestic policies..and right now I do not think we need a domestic conservative in there..of course, I think we need nationalized health care.
While Jonathan and the Webmaster have a discussion regarding who is the best candidate for the President of the United States I shall present two YouTube Presentations on the annual Imus airing of Doctor Kings “I have a Dream Speech”.
You will all notice an error in these that I have purposely placed within the presentations. It is subtle but those that are observant will understand.
Part 1- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhACSxhFXVQ
Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X2zlWx7coA
As far as supporting any candidate in this 2008 election I am truly in a conundrum.
My original Republican candidate left the stage. So here is what possibly will happen and how I will proceed.
McCain vs Clinton I Vote for McCain
McCain vs Obama I Vote for Obama
Anyone vs Clinton I Vote for anyone.
Bernie says a lot of things regarding Hillary Clinton that are purposely stated to antagonize the I-Man. He knows deep in his heart she is the last person on earth he would Vote for.
Now Don Imus using his past record of supporting a candidate has been wrong most of the time. But I do not discount his opinion. Just too much information regarding McCain troubles me. Read up on it and you will find out. It doesn’t mean he is not a decent man or patriot. But is leaning a little too far left for my taste. But your opinion may differ. That I respect.
It doesn’t matter what color or gender becomes the Democrat candidate. It is the change that we the American People need. A fresh face is a good thing not a bad thing.
Old school politicians are too set on their agenda. And so far I haven’t heard a clear message from John McCain.
Today is a new day. Let us make it a good one. The Hitchens article will wait for me to intelligently comment on. Though enjoyed his presentation.
It will be historic in a factoid sort of way. It’s going to happen someday. Obama is the first, obviously not the last. Same with Hillary. I know a girl that says, “I can’t wait to have a woman president, just not this woman.” Ultimately, when we’ve really reached the promised land, we’ll just be picking the best person for the job, regardless of gender or race. That’s how it’s done in companies all across the country. For people that don’t really understand what the president does, these symbolic victories are emphasized. They really don’t change your life. Whereas the choices, policies, and principles the leaders put into play are what matter, and cause real changes in our lives on the ground, regardless of the gender/race of the leader that happens to hold the position at the time.
The problem is that much of the discussion and analysis are focusing mostly on these factors, basically making the coverage of the election racist and sexist, espousing exactly the values the feminist movement and civil rights movement tried to overcome. And it’s not even an intelligent decision on that factor, just “duh, do I vote for the person who looks like me or what?”
Certainly symbolic and emotional aspects should be considered, but in the framework of what the presidency’s function and meaning really are, and what you want them to be. If the presidency becomes a symbolic figurehead office made for “firsts”, then it will weaken the country and what America stands for, no doubt. Seems like another sign of the idiocracy.
My sense is that the race/gender issue is mostly symbolic, and less important in my view considering the overall context at this moment in history. It’ll be nice symbolically someday, but now we’re in the middle of a very challenging war, involving nukes, so let’s get through this survival challenge first. But that’s what the election is about, how all these considerations weigh in everyone’s mind.
— To your earlier point Jonathon, Obama is implicitly running on race because a white guy with his qualifications would not even be considered for a moment, it’d be like, “hey little chap, why don’t you go run for governor or get some experience in the senate for at least 1 full term before going for Pres, I mean really.”
Wait a second Bruce, McCain is too far left for your tastes but you’d vote Obama over McCain?
Yes… I cannot hide this fact that McCain is for open borders, giving illegal immigrants SS benefits. And a few things that are far from a conservative view.
Obama is fresh. Though the experience is less then many other candidates, he could unite the Country.
I am not a Democratic supporter, though I just do not like what McCain is saying.
My true fear is this scenario. No matter the Republican or Democrat nominee, if Ron Paul goes Independent he will steal votes more from the Republicans then the Democrats. And if it happens to be Hillary, we are doomed.
I cannot “NOT’ vote. Or as I learned a non-vote is a vote for someone.
Currently registered as an independent and this Tuesdays Primary I am locked out of. Florida is a closed State.
Positions on McCain were different 1 year ago. If you listen to some of his presentations you would understand why.
Sorry to disappoint. And since things are so up in the air right now, I may change at a later date. But that is how I am looking at it right now.
OH! One thing I didn’t add in the mix. Romney is a real possiblity.
Then it may not matter who the Democrat is. I am comfortable with his experience and ideas. And currently is 2nd in Polls in Florida. McCain 25 percent::Romney 23 percent::Giulianni 15 percent.
Giulianni is a long shot.
Yesterday’s daily affirmation from Imus’s Hanley Center:
“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places.”
— Ernest Hemmingway
http://www.hanleycenter.org/
More than a little hostile but somewhat diplomatic article…paraphrasing MLK is pretty popular…I wonder what they think about his “I and Thou”…
The preacher-guy protesting at Heath Ledger’s funeral yanks my chain big time (clip played during Charles’ news update). Reminds me of what my friend’s daddy told a preacher who “damned him to hell” for not coming to church. Daddy said, “”and when I git there, you son of a b***ch, if I don’t see you first, I’ll know you ain’t dead yet.”
I take acception with Mr. Hitchen’s … I would not try to smooth over the very epistomology of the word “racism”…it is not a word which mean’s someone (however liberally minded) who mean’s to demonstrate that they accept and include other races of people, and not to mean “I am an open enough guy to do this”…we have words like ethnocentrism for that…
The exact fallicy that “we all carry African dreams” comes under the felonious belief that we are all descendants from Africa…this is well popularly understood…but it negates great minds who have considered the origin’s of life on Earth (particularly man) Like “Bucky” who believed that life was more amiable to come ashore in the South Pacific.
correction…I think I made a “Freudian slip” 🙂 African dreams maybe we do have….definitely in the tradition of the diaspora which is the acculturalating experience between society’s coming together to highlight differences and yet instill and preserve unique’ culture…forthwidth, I meant “gene’s”…
I disagree that Obama is running on Race at all. The reason that he has gotten to where he has is is oratory really…not his race, so I do not believe he is running on that race. All you have to do is to look at his win in Iowa..a pretty much all white state to see that. When people see him, they are reminded of JFK or MLK or RFK. So I do not buy that he is inplicitly running on race at all.
As far as the media goes, I think they are focusing on the horse race and not on the race/gender.
Who are you for Imustimes?
As far as illegal immigration goes, if we want to start into that…I think John McCain is right and people like Romney are wrong. There is no way, none to deport all of these illegal immigrants, it is just not possible and it is unrealistic to assume that we can do so. I believe in McCain’s plan on this. I think we should secure the border (but being out there in west TX and AZ it seems impossible because of terrain) but I think you have to make a plan to integrate these people and make them legal. And people may not like this, but I think that there is a subtle hint of racism here. Like Tom Tancredo says, the fear is that the mexicans will come and take over the country and annex the western states or some such crap..and it is kind of like..so what?
This is the USA..a nation of immigrants..adding people like themselves brings diversity..and it is better to have them known, identified, and legal than how it is now.
Rmoney is too slick, and he has changed his positions too much for him to be a valid conservative. Like the I-man says about Edwards, i’m looking for my wallet after meeting with him. I mean, the man instituted government run healthcare in his state and people are calling him a conservative? That is a great idea, but it is hardly a conservative one. That is only the beginning of his flip-flops.
Jonathan,
Are you speaking to me?
Jonathan,
No McCain is wrong on Illegal Immigration, Okalahoma passed a law that went into effect and my daughter told me the state emptied out. It is called “attrition” people will leave if you take a way the “Attraction” for them to be there in the first place. I asked my daughter whose husband is in construction, are the jobs being filled that were left open. The answer was a big yes by Americans and by Legal Green Card holders, remember those people who came into the country legally?
McCain is answering to the coporate block just like George W Bush. This suppresses American Wages and it leaves those people who are not in the country legally vunerable to all kinds of people willing to exploit and abuse them. These people are smuggled into our country and are open for abuse from the time they put their feet on the illegal path into the country. There is nothing compassionate about Human Trafficking. I am all for a work visa program to bring legal workers into this country. This will keep the criminal element out remember 20% of our prisons have people who are in the country illegally. Why didn’t they- our Legislature, all get Border and Port security first?
For the life of me I don’t undestand why Legal Immigration is not touted as the most compassionate.
A friend who is for Obama in fact had her photo taken with him, sent me this article. Relevant because South Carolina is next.
http://www.thestate.com/opinion/story/293153.html
Ree,
Seems like the article and your observations are mostly in step with mine.
Senator Orrin Hatch said the same thing about McCain’s immigration policy after I posted to our Web Master.
And Obama is very truly a person who can unify America in many more ways than one. Races and Democrats alike.
Thank you
Bruce,
I was responding to your..approval of Romney, but seeking general opinions as well.
Laree:
I agree that the human trafficking is wrong and bad things happen, but if the people that are illegal here are brought out of the shadows and made legal, those problems will be over. I think if you build the fence and have a path to citizenship you will solve the problem. It takes both steps. Legal immigration is compassionate, but the problem is that it is so bogged down and everything else, that it takes WAY too long to become a citizen. THis process needs to be streamlined as well.
I thought you were Jonathan. Thanks.
This is Michelle Malkin taking vs Kirsten Powers Obama vs Billery.
I’m getting a kick out of the “shtick” with the “sports temp” Bob Gallerstein. Funny, and reminiscent of the Chris Carlin bits.
Gallerstein is working out pretty well. Love Warner, but he better not stay away too long. He might be replaced…..
The main point of the problem with illegals in this country is this: They are here illegally.
I have heard many people say “what should we do, round them up and deport them all?…How?”
The answer is very simple. The federal Government, and State government should do exactly what some ARE doing: Go after the companies that employ them and if they do employ them, penalize the holy hell out of them.
The illegals would not come here, stay here, or be here without work. Therefore: Hold the American industries accountable…and you will see a huge exodus BACK to where they came from.
THEN let them apply for Visas and Citizenship….just as most honest immigrants are doing.
DonaldInks it is happening in Oklahoma “Attrition” works how come we don’t hear about it?
Hot Air is covering the coyote, that hit and ran and killed a border agent. Will he be extradited? It happened in the area the desert near Yuma.
I forget if anyone posted this link, I did not catch Neil Cavuto on Imus, I thought it was because I slept in. I watch RFD TV so I don’t get the Radio side.
http://insidecable.blogsome.com/2008/01/23/cavuto-on-imus/
Where’s the surfer girl? she always has great info about Imus in the Morning…
Toyota has been advertising on Imus these days! GM better get back in the ball game and start advertising on Imus in the Morning!
Keith, All,
Have you seen Imus truth, it is too funny. Keith you know a little something about graphics, what would you add.
http://imustruth.typepad.com/index/2008/01/its-about-time.html
Just one more cow baby!
Question: Am curious. Who is Keith? An insider? Pay for this site?
StDoms:
Keith (though I don’t know him as some others do who have gotten together with him..I think) is the webmaster of this site and of supportimus.org
Today’s affirmation from Imus’s Hanley Center in Florida:
“The essence of optimism is that it takes no account of the present, but it is a source of inspiration, of vitality and hope where others have resigned; it enables a man to hold his head high, to claim the future for himself and not to abandon it to his enemy.”

To those interested Keith is the Webmaster of this site. He is also “ImusTimes”.
He also bears the brunt of the costs involved in maintaining it. And unlike ImTru, doesn’t pander for contributions.

Hot Diggity, this is one of the first intelligent commentaries on this issue I’ve read since april.
http://www.courant.com/news/opinion/op_ed/hc-harris0125.artjan25,0,4794749.column
What do you all think?
PTB
First PT I think that Hillary Clinton needs to shut her husbands mouth up. Send him to the “Bunny Ranch” for a one year vacation. Then she should be quiet herself.
The days when inappropriate speech seem to be over.
I’m Keith, not an insider, I started SupportImus.org back in April.
Switched over to this server to take some of the time commitment off of running the other site. I still have plans for SI and hope to bring it back soon. Obviously if Imus was attacked again it could be back up again instantly.
PT Bartman and ChannelXRFR have been kind enough to accept an invitation to do some writing and managing of this site, and I’ve met them both in person so I feel comfortable sharing blogging duties with them.
Was thinking at first that this would be a temporary site, to again be replaced by SI when it’s back, but it seems to already be taking on a life of it’s own so I think we will keep it as long as there’s interest.
I’m supporting McCain, and looking forward to the results from FL and on Feb 5.
And respect your decision on McCain. But I agree to disagree with your feelings on this.
But with the way this campaign in general is being run, it is hard to understand what is truly anyones position, when the Democrats have a heated battle going on.
So if you felt I stepped on your toes earlier yesterday I am sorry. But a position is a position. And I do listen to much right wing radio. True liberals are out of touch with America.
And you know how to get in touch with me.
Ok first of all there are no true liberalls left, just like their are know true conservatives left.
If either one existed anymore that’d be what I’d be. and trust me they’re not opposite unless you mean opposite sides of the same coin.
PT,
Very profound but why are so many talk show hosts using these terms? Is it how you say (OPPOSITES)?
Is there a Right or a Left? If you know the answer tell please.
Here are the the Wikipedia definitions
Liberalism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism
Conservatism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservatism
In my opinion these definitions are very convuluted.
Forget my question!
Well, this blog has taken this debate on quite (more than) a few lengthy diatribes from “an article in vanity fair” on Sen. Obama with a little hostile ennui’s towards Sen. Clinton cloaked in the (paraphrased) words of Martin Luther King Jr. …the economy and interest rates to sports etc. etc. The only thing left out has been “household pets driving drunk.” Allow me to get a few licks in…while we seem to be driven by the strategists of the “information making and breaking game”…But I sincerely believe that MLK was being ontogeneric in his reference to “the content of […there…] character.” As a learned man he new innately the things of nations under God…when he said “I have seen the promised land, I may not get their with you…but my eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.” He meant that he new that sooner preferably, we as a country in the world would get over our racist habits of discrimination—a new world (because yes time changes things) that in his generation he may not see in his life (he couldn’t be sure as a man—he was very human even in his greatness)…
I read alot of talk talk and word play over race and segregationist past…but you must remember that MLK as a learned man knew…time would change and your sins would be wiped away clean as a nation under God.
That’s my diatribe (some of it anyway) tune into epistomology and ontological discourse to understand the man and the legacy.
As far as voting…fracturing the voting block is a good tactic for getting what you want…it takes along time to get so many Democrats back on Capital Hill…consider it…as for myself…well, I’m with Hillary, I can watch how incipiently people “push her buttons”…but besides caring deeply also…she has (not only a birds eye view into the state of Sino relations) more than a few good ideas that I myself really desire for my fellow country men and women.
Big announcement coming from RFD as stated by I-man this morning!!!
Waiting patiently for the “Big Announcement” from RFD-TV.
In the mean time
Super Surrogate
Whether Bill Clinton is a liability or an asset to his wife’s presidential campaign, his role, and his actions, are unprecedented.
http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=super_surrogate
Who care’s what anybody thinks about former President Clinton regarding her campaign. Sen. Clinton has her own merits. That the president should support her is good…if it clouds the issue, I think that is what is debatable…but still, it is the primary’s and the family is fighting to combat a hostile agenda…an incipient “information making and breaking game” where the party’s end up (because of well strategic placement) Fracturing their own voting blocks. The Rep.’s did it to their own party beginning in Utah (I don’t think I need to illicit) …then M.V. is doing it by leading the east by (taking his lawyer for a vacation looking for housing) in Paris. Go figure.
It will be a wonder when “all these Swing voters” end up voting their “Conscience” for the “good, of the Country.”
Consider this…If you can’t pay your bill’s in America, what’s to say you won’t end up on the streets in Paris? But Paris won’t put up with it…when the French come out…the game is over…you’ll probably end up pushing heroine in London.
So Frodo..why do you like Hillary over Obama?
All who responded to my question re: Keith – Thank-you.
I guess we will not get RFD’s big announcement today. We will have to watch Channels Pipes or Monday we will receive it from Imus.
I’m still cogitating on PT’s “I Have a Dream” excerpt (this thread #7). Very good catch and good insight about what may-or-may-not be happening with racial politics in today’s climate. Would Dr. King ever have run for political office? What would he have said about today’s political climate?
Politicians listen to “I Have a Dream” one day a year, then go back to their usual ways. They can’t not – that’s the nature of politics. Even untainted Obama will be sucked into a “power machine” that works to its own ends. The closer he gets to victory, the more it will take control of him.
I would love to believe in the Dream again. I once voted for Jesse Jackson “against my economic interests” because I wanted so badly to see the Dream come true in America. But in the racial divisiveness of the current climate, I see the seeds of bitterness against which Reverend King warned being watered, fertilized, and growing like so many choke weeds. It’s too bad Al Sharpton has been snoozing through that important part of King’s speech year after year. Mrs. Obama said the people need to “wake up and get it.” I “got it” last April. I’ll believe in the Dream again when Obama disavows “the Sharpton wing of the Democratic party” as he disavowed Don Imus.

Did you read the comments on that Ree? Seems we’re not the only ones getting sick of the PCSS.
PT,
It seems that many of the posters, don’t get or care that MMFA is a propaganda outfit? They like their koolaid, they don’t care where they get it 🙂 I suspect they would be yelling the loudest if they were held to the same standards, they are holding others to. It is always different when it happens to them personally. It always reminds me of that qoute you left on that Huffington Post Article….and then they came for me…..
Ree and P.T.:
LOL at the comments on that thread. I think all of us know the Media Matters agenda…and many posters were addressing that same issue….much the same as we do here. Kudos to those that took them to “The Whipping Post” on this posting.
Frodo…welcome to the site….although some of your posts are “WAY over my head” as far as language… 😉 ….they are appreciated…as you are here.
Does anybody think that maybe we’re being offered a bait and switch? Tony while funny, wasn’t cutting it with sports. So Imus gets with Boyce and co and they give him Warner, cause everybody love Warner. After Warner stabilize sports and lets the audience know what to expect in the morning reports, he goes on “vacation.” Then they bring in this Bob guy as the “replacement” and he rocks. He just might be the next “Breen in the making.” Warner comes back and regrettably reports he has to cut back his schedule, but Bob has agreed to take over for a while with occasional Warner appearances.
Or am I out on the grassy knoll, again.
I think the MSM is making hash out of the primarys so people will watch? improve their ratings? I keep seeing them trying to slice and dice whoever is up in the polls, the different scenarios for the front runners gets wilder and wilder. I just got a message from Judy from the Imus Yahoo Fan Group, she stated, she thinks the Media thinks, it is up to them through their coverage, who we pick. Maybe pre April 2007.
Here is the You Tube Media Matters presentation. As innocuous as Imus’ statements were they still insist on reporthing this crap.
