Astronaut(?) Carl Jeffers Launches In On Imus Race Discussion
Provided by: BruceTube
ChanX CliffsNotes
Exchange took place at the very end of the Carl Jeffers appearance…
Imus: No one is having the race discussion because it is too uncomfortable. If you’re willing would like to have you back on to talk about stuff like that and some more about Barack Obama.
Jeffers: That is an absolute truism (regarding the race discussion). No one wants to have it because they are afraid of it.
Jeffers: With America not ready to have the discussion. How will millions of whites who are very uncomfortable, all of a sudden go into the voting booth, close the curtain and vote for an African American? It is not going to happen!
Seems like a reasonable start to the race discussion. Carl Jeffers has a high rpm approach and does not pull punches. Hope to see more of Carl on the program.
Note: Jeffers is not now nor has ever been an astronaut. Sorry ladies…. [ed. Right ChanX, a black guy would have to be an astronaut before he’d get on Imus’ show.*

The I-Man extremely knows what he’s doing. Why he’s taking listener phone in’s this morning, I don’t know…maybe because Monica Crowley called in sick? But wow, Imus’s interview with the poor fellow (Matt in Charlotte) who got the surprise letter to take a paternity test was genius! That’s his gift – he can coax a confession from anyone…from the “high and mighty” to the “down on their luck.” As he said, he can “read” people…that’s what you call a “High EQ.”
Sh*t yeah, Matt in Charlotte was incredible, Lou running out of delay was priceless. Not your ordinary WABC call in was it?
Marty I love you but get off my phone, no I mean it get off my phone…this is why we don’t take phone calls. 🙂
Ok I’ll start the discussion on race.
Lets vote. Even though IMO Karith is lame, not funny, sucks up to the man too much, sucks up to Deirdre way too much —– does that mean we have to keep her because she is AA.
BTW — you should see what my wife has to go through at work to fire an AA. Well what she goes through to fire anyone is bizarre, but if the person is AA it’s triple bizarre.
Karith is on the program because Imus wants her on the program. Imus has the one and only vote!
Wasn’t able to watch this morning due to an early meeting. Did Imus play Levon Helm and Vince Gill? I was so happy for their Grammy wins!
So did you notice Imus’ passing reference to getting a radio affiliate in Washington? It was during Bo Dietl’s appearance, while Bo was urging a DC station to get the show heard there.
Don said “We’ve made a deal, it just hasn’t been announced yet.”
An outlet in the city of wheelers & dealers would be a major milestone in the Imus comeback.
Sigh
Clinton is toast thank God, I guess. Only thing interesting left to see is how low she and Bill will go to try and fight this out. I think they’ll go very low —- they feel they are “entitled”. Could get very interesting.
Bad for McCain. HRC easy to beat. Obama mania is going to be impossible. Bummer.
Whoever let the campaign get sidetracked over the last week with all this Chelsea nonsense? The Clintons are in the political fight of their lives. For some strange reason they take a time out to run MSNBC through the guantlet. Repeat after me, It’s Obama Stupid!
Regarding HC’s reorg, seems Harold Ickes is flying under the radar. He could be taking on a bigger role in the campaign. HC not over by a long shot, here comes the big guns.
Hillary Adapts to the Changes in the Game NY Mag
The Carl Jeffers interview was very interesting and enlightening. Yes, I hope to see much more of him on the program.
Imus is definitely going to continue to take on the race issue and more power to him. I think he is going to make it a mission. Blacks and whites are afraid of each other. We have to tippy toe around each other. We don’t want to offend. These problems run deep and way back. It’s important to really try to get it out in the open and deal with it. All that happened to Imus will reap positive rewards in black and white relationships in the future. I think Imus believes this too and he will lead the way in a national discussion.
Oh, I would like to call in to I-man, but I don’t think I could take him bitching at me or hanging up on me; however, maybe I should feel honored..?? LOL
Yes, Harley…I posted in another thread , in case you didn’t see it, that Levon and Vince were played this morning. Imus was pretty merciless in his opinion of Herbie Hancock’s award. I don’t know too much about Herbie Hancock so I can’t really give an opinion of his music except for the bits that I-man played and I thought the music was nice but more for those who enjoy easy listening.
I remember waking up to the Vince Gill song. It would stay in my head for the rest of the day.
I can definitely see Imus starting the race discussion. Carl Jeffers opened the door by addressing whites going into the voting booth and voting for an African American.
The root of the discussion is trust. Tony said the race discussion starts with “KILL YT”. Maybe that is where you start.
Q: Will we trust each other to; 1) have the discussion and 2) be forthright?
and 3 be non judgmental to the other view, even those that we disagree with or don’t understand. Yelling and screaming doesn’t. The other thing is we need to cut each other some slack. One thing that pi$$es (can I type that here) me off like nothing else is the phrase, “It’s not up to (insert group) to educate (insert group).” Well if it’s not than who is it up to? We need education not intimidation Dialog not diatribes.

Re: White person’s vote for Obama ~ well Maine is a ‘wonder bread’ white State & Maine went for Obama at each Caucus in our State on Sunday Februsry 10th. Just wait until the National erection/election in November. Period.
Ginger,
Re our last discussion, last thread, yes you are getting the gist of it, the MSM is throwing everything together at us haphazardly, they think we are all really dumb…it is like the Media is really lazy and they take the easiest story line, to sell us on a point of view, i.e. their constant coverage of celeberties with substance abuse issues, they may not even believe what they are putting forth about the issue but it fits into the seconds and minutes, they have to broadcast. What is an easy way to say this: they are trying to baffle us, with their bullshit.
Superficial vs Complex coverage….I can’t describe complex coverage but I know it when I see it 🙂
Don’t live in Maine girl, but have a home there and have vacationed there for 20 years. Lilly white state and very liberal regardless of some repub senators, etc.
Clinton is toast —- bummer for McCain.
Back to Imus and thnxs to ChannelX’s pipes imash. I agree with this blogger, Coffee is for closers!

This is Texas, Obama can distinguish himself by staying above the fray and not alienating the Military, we are a really big military state. San Antonio has four or five bases..Outside of Houston is Ft Hood. Midland -Texas is where General Tommy Franks and the first lady come from. Obama’s message of bringing the troops home isn’t going to alienate anyone but being disrespectful to anyone in uniform, leading or serving is going to be antaganistic down here. There are alot of Hispanics in the military. I am living in the middle of Bush country, and in my own neighborhood, I hear Obama talk.

Sadly, I have the “Rehab” song playing in my head today. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it? I’d rather have Vince Gill, but I keep hearing “No no no” instead of “Why do I…”
Obama would never disparage ONE of our fine brave soldiers.
Only the draft dodging a**holes that put them in harms way…because of a “slam dunk” decision. I think he has eloquently laid the blame for the current fiasco at the proper feet of the perpetrators.
As far as the current delegate count…this is going to be interesting. The “super delegates ” that have claimed to be on board with whomever…are not committed in any way…and may jump ship, depending on one fact:
Who can beat McCain…and the trend in the polls at the time of the convention. As of now, current polls show Obama leading slightly in a head to head race with McCain, while Hillary is dead even.
They are NOT going to risk losing the general election…
Hillary cannot “sew up the nomination ” just on committed delegates alone. The numbers are clear to that fact. She needs those “super delegates”…badly.
…and right now…things may just go towards Obama, for the above stated reason…who can beat John McCain.
That, is what it is all about.
…and while I am thinking about it:
the topic of this thread. Who would EVER think just 8 years ago that a Afro-American could garner such hope, excitement…and votes…in states that he has a minute constituency (I.E Afro-Americans)?
The duologue will continue, maybe in a greater way that any of us could have ever imagined.
“The duologue will continue”
…sorry, DIALOG. WHERE did I EVER come up with THAT spelling…lol…
Donald,
Obama has the luxury of not having been around at the time of the “vote”. However, from my previous post on the subject of how this happened, I have no doubt that he would have voted in favor had he been around. He just has the advantage of not having been there. Lucky him I guess.
Our Maine so-called moderate women Senators are & have been in lock-step with W. They don’t represent ME – meself.
skiwolf:
Actually, Obama spoke out strongly PRIOR to, and AGAINST that vote (2002) publicly, and you can google his speech.
Obviously, he would have NOT voted tor that decision to give those powers to Bush, but Clinton DID.
THAT is one strong point in his favor. It has been at the forefront of all of the Democratic debates illustrating the differences between the two.
Laree: Thanks for reminding me that it was the Military who helped get Bush into the White House – all of those oooorahs for the 2000 – then wickedly again for 2004. The oorahs were part of the swiftboat business. We had a bloodless military coup in the American heartland in 2000 & 2004. Not so bloodless in Iraq was it? Is it?
skiwolf:
Here is Obamas entire speech, from Wikisource:

I have to wonder how good a benchmark the caucus votes are. The thing about caucuses, in my limited understanding, is that it isn’t a private vote, as with ballot voting. So all your friends and neighbors see your vote…?
In the LoveObama/HateHillary climate that dominates the media, it must be getting embarrassing to vote for Hillary. A voter would have to be very strong and independent to buck the trend in front of others. I wonder how many people could really do it – stand up to the social pressure? Is there a racism-in-reverse factor?
Any caucus-goers here? What’s it like inside a caucus?
I’m aware of that speech, Donald, Thanks. Per my previous post, however, I firmly believe had he been in the Senate at the time he would have voted yes. They were all as I said, “deer in headlights”. He does have the advantage of not being there.
Obama is going to win. Bummer because McCain has no chance against him. Tough to choose without HRC in the race. Hope time will tell.
I love and admire everyone of you that post here. But it is truly getting tiresome to hear all the negative comments on this “LUNATIC ELECTION”.
Hillary is going to lose PERIOD. If she makes it through the nomination process with her dirty tricks, she will be destroyed in the General election by us, the little people.
Every time I hear her raise her voice I can only think of one person who lost decisively in the nominating process in 2004. Doctor, Lawyer Howard Dean. Her voice just makes my bones ache. She defends her 27 year old daughter and tells us how wonderful she is. “What” nut job would defend a relative that panders to “Super Delegates” and “Hollywood Stars” but refuses to speak with the media?
She is part of the grand scheme designed for the general public to feel as if she is being picked on.
Other than the ill informed voters that are voting Democratic because of GW’s mistakes, there are others that just vote because they are old, wealthy and are about to pass on to the world beyond.
If HRC can’t handle “FOX”or “MSNBC” how can she handle a real attack against the U.S.? Will she ask BJ Bill or will she cry on camera?
Her end is near. But if her end does not materialize then our end is near. And it will not be pretty.
She needs the proverbial “KICK IN THE ASS” to get the heck out “NOW”. Or she will become the laughing stock of the free World. And this is not a Woman against Man thing. Male/Female. It is a logical decision based on what she doesn’t stand for.
Power hungry families like her’s belong on a boat to China.
Bill Clinton only taught us one thing. Liars get away with Murder. And sex is what “IS-IS”. And she the good wife put up with his shenanigans. And that started way back in Arkansas.
God Bless America. Just don’t vote for her … She is the the worst choice in my opinion America could make.
All replies are of course welcomed.

Didn’t this happen to Imus before he was fired?

It doesn’t look good for Shuster.
Thanks Harley for those links.
Now Mr. Wolf,
You didn’t listen to the presentation. If McCain is up against Obama he wins. If he is against Satan he loses
So who do you want to win?
I nominate Charles McCord. LOL
A Caucus is where birds of a feather stick together/gather – {birds of a political feather} to caucus {Indian word meaning to gather/meet} We Democrats {plus a few Independents} gathered on Sunday to decide who will lead us in November. There could be any number of people in contention – we cast votes & the biggest vote getter – takes the caucus vote. 1 Person I vote.
A Democratic caucus is sort of like a good Irish Donneybrook ~ except nobody gets bloodied {at least not literally} but we do get a winner usually or at least a leading contender. As Will Rogers said ‘I don’t belong to an organized political party ~ I’m a Democrat’. Too funny!
Only chance for McCain to win is against HRC because so many people hate her and Bubba Bill. Against Obama he has no chance.
Obama right or wrong is going to be a tsunami. It is going to happen IMO. Not saying that is bad. Just what is. McCain is going to be the Bob Dole of this election.
The mystery is why did the HRC campaign spend this last weekend focused on Chelsea “Pimped Out”? With a primary contests over the weekend and more coming up this week that favor Obama seems like Chelsea was a distraction at best. Forget the economy “Its About Obama, Stupid”.
BTW; Drudge reporting NOT PIMPING: Chelsea Dines with 21-Year-Old Superdelegate… Click Here
However, it is going to be so sweet to watch HRC and Bubba Bill lose. I can’t wait to see who they blame it on.
Heard a Rush commercial on WABC today.
Rush wanted to know, where was all of HRC’s outrage over what Bill did to that 20 year old intern?
Not much of a Rush fan but the commercials are awesome.
Here’s the deal. HRC & Bubba Bill feel “entitled”. I thnk I used that word in previous posts some weeks ago.
Anyhow, as soon as they felt the “entitlement” slipping away they started doing strange stuff. Stuff that included Bubba Bill acting like an ass and stuff that included their reaction to “pimped out” which was just silly.
The pimped out deal was beyond stupid. Simply a turn of phrase that was lame, but hardly worth anything but a minor distraction.
The merger of so called main stream media ant the internet is not serving any one well at the moment.
Obama was suppose to be the inexperienced, the weak one. The candidate who would make miscalculate and fall when the pressure was on. Instead he stood right up to Bill Clinton and called him directly out, mano y mano, no surrogates.
Hillary is the one who is whining and sobbing with her campaign in disarray.
The Clintons are smart and capable of pulling this out. Remember Harold Ickes is on the case.
Thank you, StDom’s, for that insider view of the caucus. Sounds like fun 🙂

Happy Birthday, Honest Abe
Laree,
Thanks for your response post. The media has to fill hours and hours and the majority of the time the drivel runs like saliva rolling down Chris Matthew’s chin. I have total faith in the public and that they can tell the difference beween “Superficial and Complex.”
If the media loves Obama, I don’t think it matters. WE THE PEOPLE think for ourselves. I would feel the same way if they were romancing Hillary. THE MEDIA DOESN’T THINK FOR US.
I think I’m totally outnumbered here regarding Hillary ! LOL
I don’t dislike Obama and I will definitely vote for him if circumstances dictate.
I like John McCain, but if Jesus Christ* was running as a Republican this year, I don’t think even HE would have a chance to win! I think the Republicans are totally “spent” and they are going to have to regroup and redefine their party. –and look forward perhaps to 2012 OR 2016! I voted Republican in the last election. I’m tired of them.
*As Huckabee said , in effect, “Jesus Christ was too smart to run for public office”.
new thread!!!!
Ginger,
It is true they are calling John McCain – George W Bush’s third term. How does that help McCain?
Hillary Clinton is part of a dynasty, one with baggage.
Obama wants to turn the page…
