They were talking about the NYC NABJ dinner last night. Tony and Karith attended with WABC suits. One of the highlights was Imus pic up on the big screen. NABJ claiming the firing of Imus was victory. Imus went through his “If I hadn’t said..” Then he drops “Gwen Ifill is a liar”.
That was a really good clip,I didn’t know Eddie Murphy and Dick Cavett hung out together…Tony schtick about Aunt Jemima and Mrs Butterworth, Uncle Ben…After this he is going to be able to do a rountine on how progressive America is compared to other countrys. What is that song out right now and who sings it, the lyrics: Just waiting on the world to change? Matchbox Twenty “Let’s see how far we’ve come”
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone, today is also my Birthday, my husband turned to me as usual and said, we will go out to dinner this weekend to celebrate your birthday…this happens every year because if you try to go to dinner on Valentine’s Day you will wait 2 hours for a table. I have complained about getting older to my older sister Mary, and she always tells me the same thing “Having a Birthday is always better then the alternative” 😉 Well at least I wasn’t born on April Fools Day, like my younger sister!
OMG I can’t believe this Jane Fonda said what on morning tv but Shuster got suspended for describing how Chelsea Clinton was being used by her mother’s campaing – with urban slang. Hey this isn’t cable either. This is the mother ship and they keep blaming it on MSNBC.
Dang, is Imus going to be fired AGAIN? She’s as worse as Hillary with her LONG grudges! She waited until the LAST minute on Meet the Press to say that one of Imus’ producers had called her when she was first “insulted” by Imus back in the 80’s.
How is it a victory when the man is working again?????? DL Hugley who ALSO insulted the girls is hosting the NAACP awards tonight! A rapper and his crew sport NIGGER shirts at the Grammys and NOTHING happens! I THOUGHT that word was BURIED! The NABJ needs to talk about something else!
When shock jock Don Imus faced criticism for using a racial epithet to refer to Rutgers University’s women’s basketball team, you wrote a powerful piece for the New York Times referencing how Imus insulted you (the joke said the Times was sending the cleaning lady to cover the White House). Do you have an opinion on his return to radio?
No, actually. I never called for him to be fired. Man’s earning a living, people want to watch him, which is fine. I was very careful then and now to make sure this was about the girls and not about him. As you can imagine, a lot of people wanted me to come on television and talk about Imus. I wasn’t on an anti-Imus campaign and I didn’t want what I was saying to get conflated into that.
Will you ever appear on his show?
I’m busy (laughs). I turn down far more interesting offers every day.
Ok…tracking down the culprit of the attributed remark supposedly made from Imus about Gwen:
From Newsmax Tuesday April 10th, 2007:
Talk show host Don Imus’ derogatory comment about the Rutgers women’s basketball team might remind some listeners of a remark he made about “Washington Week” moderator Gwen Ifill, reportedly referring to the black journalist at a “cleaning lady.”
In 1993, Ifill was covering the White House for the New York Times when colleagues began asking her why Imus “seemed to have a problem with me,” she recalls in Tuesday’s Times.
“I had no idea what they were talking about because I never listened to the program.”
But five years later, New York Daily News columnist Lars-Erik Nelson clued her in.
“Isn’t the Times wonderful,” Nelson quoted Imus as saying on the radio. “It lets the cleaning lady cover the White House.”
Ifill writes in the Times: “I haven’t talked about this much. I’m a big girl. I have a platform. I have a voice. I’ve been working in journalism long enough that there is little danger that a radio D.J.’s juvenile slap will define or scar me.
“Yesterday, he began telling people he never actually called me a cleaning lady. Whatever. This is not about me. It is about the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.”
Now, more on the late Lars-Erik Nelson to follow….
Lars-Erik Nelson (1941-2000) was best known for his syndicated column in The New York Daily News. His work also appeared in The New York Review of Books, The Nation Magazine, Mother Jones, Foreign Affairs, among others, and his column ran in newspapers across the country.
While Nelson was questioning Newt Gingrich at at a Sperling Breakfast in November 1995, Gingrich admitted that he had shut down the federal government because Bill Clinton had made him sit at the back of Air Force One. The infamous Daily News “Cry Baby” cover story ran the following day.
It would seem to me…if you carefully follow the trail…it wasn’t just Media Matters and the left wing liberals who were busy sliming Don Imus. The National Review was in it also…just follow the links provided above…interesting….
“Double Update. Belated kudos to Tucker Carlson, one of the few guests on the Imus program with the integrity not to truckle to the boorish host. Here’s the clip. Note that at the end, after hanging up on Tucker and calling him names, Imus criticizes him for picking a fight with somebody powerful.
IMUS: Some people are just insane aren’t they? This is a guy with no access to an audience – starting a fight with me. I mean, that’s just insanity. Pick your fights, you know? “
Glad you like my avatar, Linda S …it’s an artistic rendering; however, my two doggies do look just like this…a wheaten-colored scottie (the dumb blonde) and a brindle-colored scottie (“the King”). I put this up in honor of the dog show, but I think I’ll leave it for a bit…thank you!
They never did air Part II of “Karith Goes to Westminster,” did they? Must have been truly awwffullll?! Too bad…the girl needs some support, but I guess they’re too busy making sure the I-Man is getting enough oxygen… I hope he stays home and gets some rest tomorrow…maybe he can “phone it in?” Won’t be the first time… 🙂
Note this quote by Gwen Ifill from the above article…it is interesting to me:
“When Don Imus said this about me when I worked here at NBC, when I found out about it, his producer called and said, “Don wants to apologize.” Well, now he says he never said it. What was he apologizing for? He was apologizing for getting caught, not apologizing for having said it in the first place.”
What I find fascinating…is that I can trace this whole accusation, that Don Imus had referred to Gwen Ifill as a “cleaning Lady” (and told her as much) to ONE person: Lars-Erik Nelson.
These two facts do NOT jive:
1. Gwen stated she never knew about it until Lars-Erik Nelson had told her about it…FIVE YEARS LATER.
2. Her above quote about Imus’ Producer calling to apologize for the above mention quote.
In MY book…Imus is correct. Gwen Ifill IS INDEED a LIAR.
Finally watched the clip…verrrry funny…the “two balded headed men” joke showed up there…apparently not the first time he used it (i.e., last I-ppearance before this one). Cavett is unique and he hasn’t lost his touch…
Good Donaldinks! You are really on this Ifill thing! How can she LIE and say that she wasn’t on the tar and feather Imus bandwagon? Even Roker’s fat ass lied! Why would they lie like that? Roker wrote all of those essays and DIDN’T want Imus fired??? You could have fooled me!!! Please feel free to enlighten me…………..
NOW YOU KNOW THE PC POLICE HAVE GONE NUTS WHEN THIS CHILD HAS TO APOLOGIZE:
Cyrus Apologizes For Not Wearing Seat Belt
Singer/actress Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray Cyrus have apologized for failing to wear seat belts in a scene in new concert movie Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert Tour. U.S. watchdog Consumer Reports publicly criticized the pair earlier this week for setting a bad example to Miley’s young fans. The scene in question features the 15-year-old pop sensation and her dad in the back of a Range Rover – with neither of them wearing required safety restraints. Billy Ray tells People.com, “We got caught up in the moment of filming, and we made a mistake and forgot to buckle our seatbelts. Seatbelt safety is extremely important.”
HOPE SHE DOESN’T CRACK LIKE BRITNEY IN A FEW YEARS! 😦
Guess you forgot that the video you provided of the interview about Tucker Carlson defending Contessa Brewer was first reported by me on YouTube awhile back when I was posting on Imus Truth. It was not a Video but a graphic representation of the whole discussion.
Either you were not a fan of mine at that time or you were not paying attention.
Also Harley is quoted in my piece on this YouTube Presentation. Read the words in the right hand sidebar.
Breaking: NBC News president Steve Capus tells TVNewser David Shuster will return to MSNBC Friday, Feb. 22. That will mean a two-week suspension for Shuster who was taken off the air for using the phrase “pimped out” on a Feb. 7 broadcast of MSNBC’s “Tucker”. Shuster was describing Chelsea Clinton’s role of calling superdelegates as part of her mother’s Presidential campaign.
I am happy for Shuster. He never deserved the suspension to begin with.
The Hillary machine is out of control. They now have allegedly allowed the Florida and Michigan Primary votes to count. These States are where she took the majority of the Votes and an outstanding majority.
In my mind this makes it all the more certain that she will lose, if she gets the nomination for President, against McCain no matter what the age difference is.
Glad to see the the DNC has come to their senses. But also feel they did it only because she is on a run where she is and will lose further Primaries even in the major States of Texas and Ohio.
Hillary is a Clinton. Clinton’s are not wanted in the White House. They stand for the old guard and that means the same old same old junk we have been hearing.
I stand by my original argument. No more Clintons, No More Bushes. Get over it.
Our Country is in enough trouble then to introduce a ridiculous Universal Health Care system that would cost you and me forced contributions even if we have the proper coverage. This is My Opinion.
As time goes by and folks continue to make “oopsies” on the air and NOTHING happens to them, the whole Imus situation seems pretty dumb!
Roker-No suspension, lame apology
MoJoe-No suspension, lame apology
Matthews-No suspension, lame apology
OVERmann-No suspension, free to talk about whomever he wants with no consequences
Jane Fonda- Meridith Viera laughs, lame apology
Daine Keaton- Daine Sawyer laughs, apology given?
Except for these two “horrible” folks…
Don Imus-suspended, fired on the day of a telethon for sick kids, publicly tarred and feathered by Roker, Jackson, Ifill, Sharpton
Kelly Tilghman (Golf Channel host)- suspended for two weeks, Sharpton called for her firing (What ever happened to that? Guess the Golf Channel is paying Al to keep quiet!)
Rapper and his entourage show up to the Grammy’s in NIGGER attire to promote his upcoming NIGGER album- CRICKETS…… Looked up and down for Al and Jesse’s condemnations. Not a peep out of Roker, Ifill, etc.
DL Hughley, who ALSO insulted the Rutgers girls is the host of the NAACP awards–CRICKETS….. except for two websites I found, no protests from Al nor Jesse
Bruce said: “Our Country is in enough trouble then to introduce a ridiculous Universal Health Care system that would cost you and me forced contributions even if we have the proper coverage. This is My Opinion.”
Bruce, the strong need to help the weak.
This is my opinion.
