Imus speaking with guest Jeff Toobin puts in I-Context the Obama defense of the Reverend Wright comments.
He (Obama) was one of the guys, one of the first people jumping up and down screaming about me being fired!
And when he got in trouble with Reverend Wright, he asked us all to put the Reverend Wright comments in context.
Which of course nobody was going to do. They wouldn’t do it with me, they wouldn’t do it with him.
Or to consider all these wonderful things that Reverend Wright had done for his entire life. Which I’m sure he has (done wonderful things).
BUT I DON’T MEAN TO MAKE THIS ALL ABOUT ME, BUT SOMETIMES IT’S UNAVOIDABLE.
Just because you a wonderful person, doesn’t entitle you to say whatever you feel like saying. He (Obama) should recognize that.
Netting this out. The chickens came home to roost!
Bingo.
wow. Can’t wait to get to today’s show!
great article here lays out the hypocrisy from another angle, and explains it very clearly.

whoa, ChanX, that avatar is far out…
It’s about time Imus got serious about pointing this out. He has touched on this before but today’s reference laid it out for us. Also, as Imus went into the classic ” ..I DON’T MEAN TO MAKE THIS ALL ABOUT ME”, there was a lot of chuckling in the background.
Have been collecting Xs lately…
It’s about time!!
Where do y’all get those avatars?
The site is looking very nice with the pictures.
Bella, have been collecting Xs off of Google and Yahoo images and whenever I see an interesting one then its “right clik, save picture as”.
Thanks, Chanx.
Well, my favorite part was at the top of the hour…Imus quoting Rev. Wright’s “Stuck On Stupid”. That was laugh out loud funny….
…reminded me of a coworker from Northwest Airlines that used that very same phrase describing same company….and it hit me the same way back then, as it did Imus this morning. 🙂
Hey Chanx….you were correct about Biden as Secretary of State…not Defense. If I can remember correctly…my ” Dream Team” for 2008 was Colin Powell for Secretary of Defense….and Biden for Secretary of State.
A senior moment…LOL.
…oh by the by…(LOL), John McCain will be on Chris Matthews College Tour special tonight.
“Stuck on Stupid” reminds me of last year’s debacle. A number of I-haters used “stuck on stupid” as part of their anti-Imus arguments. It’s a great phrase that for me has been poisoned, maybe forever.
Biden clicks at Secretary of State, has tremendous knowledge and experience in Foreign Relations. Even though he talks alot, he is very interesting person.
If Imus’ program had not been interrupted last April both Biden and Dodd would have had a greater level of national exposure. This exposure would have led to a stronger campaign and showing for both. There were collateral consequences to Imus’ sabbatical, many unintended.
Do you think Biden will appear on Imus again?
“The current 11 percentage point lead is the largest for Obama this year, and marks the ninth consecutive day in which Obama has led Clinton by a statistically significant margin. The current Gallup Poll Daily tracking average is based on interviewing conducted Saturday, Sunday and Monday — after the initial reports of Obama’s controversial remarks about “bitter” small-town residents began to be reported in the news media.”
From Gallup.com:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/106537/Gallup-Daily-Obama-51-Clinton-40.aspx
on Bella’s topic, I agree the show is different from “before”, but also very pleased to see that the issues that came up all summer have become important issues of the campaign.
1) Imus’ view of Hillary is now widely held(encapsulated by “Satan”), even amongst Democrats.
2) Real problem of racism is not Imus and his listeners.
Watching how democracy processes this discussion, while at the same time settling into these brain-crunching new technologies(internet) is pretty remarkable.
I don’t think Biden is going back on because he wants a place in the Obama administration. He can’t do anything to mess that up.
Keith….
My wife and I concur with your assessment on Imus and the “new” show…
…and the real problems on racism.
And thank you again for the forum…it’s a welcome change!
HQ, That could be it. Good luck to Joe then.
I thought the Annie Oakley comment was funny. So maybe Obama can go into stand-up after he loses. 🙂
ChanX…
I think Joe Biden will be on Imus again. I’m saying this because of the ongoing discussion on the Iraq war…and Joe Biden, so far as I can remember, never got into the “NHH” fiasco…
..as the race for the Presidency goes on…I think he will be back…..just my own opinion based on what I’ve stated above. 😉
….P.S. I don’t think Joe Biden is “hoping” for a cabinet post…he is quite happy and content doing the great work he is doing on the Foreign Relations Committee…he has stated this on record many times…(after he withdrew from the Presidential race)…LOL…but, you never can tell. I think he would be a great asset as Secretary of State.
Hope your right Donald
I left a message about what Joe Biden is doing right now with legislation in the last McCain Imus article…Joe Biden always come out on the right side of my issues, how does he manage to do that 🙂 I hope he is a part of the next administration whether it is Democrat or Republican why shouldn’t they mix up their cabinets get the best people not just the loyal people.
I do like that Biden guy. Even though he’s been accused of bloviating from time to time.
IMO with Imus he sounds like a real person, not some kind of bloviater.
Does Obama’s pastor really matter?
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=c19d4d91-618e-40d3-a5d9-c07d7a87a5ba
Wow, the above statement by Imus was awesome.
We are on the way to many great things in the program. I
sense a change in the right direction…
’bout time, ’bout time.
GLAD he said whats on his mind…
Hi Guys
JoeM here had to come up with a new user name for this site.
Well I have been listening to the show regularly and have watched it grow. Imus growing from a shell shocked guy who had been fired to a guy who is in charge with ratings and revenue. It took a while for the show to evolve and it did evolve out differently than I believe most expected. You had to know, if you know Imus that he would bring the issue of race to the forefront and he has done that in his own way and style. I am pleased and proud to be an Imus listener (viewer on RFD). The issue has been confronted head on and without reservation.
On the new cast members, Tony is funny, Karith not as much. I do miss Larry. Guests have come back as I thought they would.
Now turning to the Reverend Wright issue. I guess there are folks whom I respect whose opinions I don’t agree with . There are folks close to me with whom I disagree wholeheartedly but I don’t toss them out of my life. There are institutions of which I have been a part which have fallen down in protecting those who need protection and yet I don’t hold every member responsible. (As a former catholic I have several folks in mind here.) With Reverend Wright he is entitled to his opinions and me mine. To hold Obama responsible for everything Reverend Wright says would be as holding Imus responsible for everything Bo or Sid says. Makes no sense and shouldn’t in the grand scheme of things.
It seems we get off on these tangents instead of focusing on whom would be the best choice to lead the country out of the disaster that George W. Bush has pushed upon us.
However, stealing from Denis Miller those are just my opinions I could be wrong.
Another great article on Obama here:
http://pajamasmedia.com/xpress/victordavishanson/2008/04/14/our_european_candidate_3.php
On Wright, it’s not that Obama is responsible for what Wright has said. But a big part of a presidential elections is us trying to figure out what these people are about. Obama’s choice of pastor is another indicator of how he thinks about the world.
If Imus was running for president, the NHH comment(and probably his association with Sid or Bo), would be disqualifying. The standards for Presidents are quite a bit different.
Good to see you again, Joe. Weird that Larry Kenney hasn’t been around. He was at Town Hall on December 3.
Good for Imus! All of us have been thinking and/or saying it, but Imus finally expressed it courageously and with tons of confidence. Obama owes Imus an apology. He needs to go on Imus’ show and say “I’m sorry. I overreacted.” OR… he should cut all ties with Rev. Wright and give him the same treatment as he gave Imus….we just need a little consistency, please.
Imus is so right about the fact that just because you are a good person and do good things doesn’t give you license to just go around saying and doing whatever you please. Rev. Wright has done good works…okay–lots of people do good works….it doesn’t justify spreading hate and anger. Good works don’t even the playing field–you know, they don’t keep your points way up there with the Almighty or other people while you are pumping yourself up and arrogantly lording yourself over others.
I’ve heard that Stuck on Stupid phrase so many times. I can’t relate to it being funny but it sure seemed to crack the I-man up.. LOL…I think it’s really funny whe Imus gets tickled.. ha!
I’m about ready for another rant from Charles. Has their been one lately? I haven’t heard all of the shows, just parts, for about the last week.
Nobody can rant better than Charles!
Good Morning All.
If you want to hear 46 minutes of Imus Political stuff I have it up on Yahoo Videos. Pay close attention to the second part after Bo Dietl. It’s the first 15 minutes of the 9 O’Clock hour where things were quite funny. Couple songs, Warner on Sports (Twice) funny. And of course the two main interview. NO DEIRDRE OMG. Enough about that.
So this is the first one on Yahoo Video’s next will be a You Tube Comedy presentation.
Enjoy

Triple Comedy On Imus April 14th and 15th
This includes “IMUS THEATRE ON THE AIR” from Monday.
Enjoy All
As to Jeremiah Wright, he is entitled to his opinion and Obama can “cling” to him for 20, 30, 40 years and it is nobody’s business or concern UNTIL Obama wants to be President of the United States. Then it becomes our business. His associates are the ones he would bring into the administration or at the very least turn to for advice. And we are not talking about a casual association here. Obama chose this man and this particular church as a adult. It’s not as if he was raised in this particular belief.
So each person can answer the question, does Jeremiah Wright matter? My answer is, you darn right he does.
Speaking with Jeffery Toobin Imus brought up comments by BET President Bob Johnson. Jeffery Toobin characterized the situation as the “war of the crazy surrogates; Geraldine Ferraro and Reverend Wright and Robert Johnson.”. Here is what Johnson actually said;
Bob Johnson is pointing out that by the numbers Barack has received a disproportionate amount of Black support, nonetheless is understandable.
There is graphic in today’s New York Times which lays out the voting blocks and how they favor Obama over Clinton. Decision Tree: The Obama-Clinton Divide | Click Here.
Based on the primary elections held YTD Hillary Clinton has won 1231 counties (white, poor, less educated, republican leaning) to Obama’s 710 counties (urban and college educated).
Gut feeling; With an Obama candidacy, all said and done, the primary process will be viewed as being skewed towards traditional democrat voters not taking into account the preference of “Reagan Democrats”. The Democratic Party leadership will be criticized for a flawed process and marginalizing the views of stalwarts such as Johnson and Ferraro. Super Delegates will be criticized for endorsing the popular vote rather then exercising independent judgment.
bellalu0, you hit the nail on the head. We have to decide if we want a president who doesn’t mind being buddies with domestic terrorists like Bill Ayers, corrupt slum lords like Rezko, and radical ministers like Rev. Wright. There are some things that Rev. Wright has said that I could agree with (a few), though I could never be friends with Bill Ayers. I don’t see any love of the U.S. in Obama or his wife. I am not a rah-rah patriot, my country right or wrong. I think critical thinking is important and not everything the US does is correct. But I believe in the principles this country stands for. I am glad I am an American. I don’t think Obama is. From his books it seems he’d rather be Kenyan.
Joe M,
Has Sid or Bo referred to Imus as an uncle figure or a mentor? Imus isn’t a Pastor or a spirtual advisor it is not the same in comparison. Obama is a “typical politician” and he is welcome to use the phrase all he wants. I would love to see someone photoshop a photo of Obama with that on a t-shirt he is wearing in fact pass them out to all the presidential canidates 🙂
Tony was right Obama needs to stop apologizing because everytime he opens his mouth he compounds the issue and keeps it alive in the newscycle.
Obama should go on Imus in the Morning.
JoeM, It will not be Rev Wright controversy which defeats Obama in the fall. It will be a flawed primary process; disenfranchising Florida and Michigan voters as well as a weighting of the primary outcome to urban areas and moveon.org.
Bella and Ree,
THANK YOU! That’s it in a nutshell!
ChannelXRFR,
Look what is going on one year later all the usual suspects. People don’t get that Imus is on a Highwire. I wonder how some of his critics would handle the current climate he is producing his program under..I suspect they couldn’t manuever half as well. I posted this on Imus Truth and Monica’s blog..It isn’t an accident that Imus supports McCain.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-vadum/2008/04/15/soros-s-political-hit-man-brock-takes-aim-mccain
They got their knives out!
Agreed Ree
No small coincidence McCain appearing with Imus Dec 3rd, indeed! Johnny Mac will not be cowed by the Media Matters low life. Now Media Matters Political Hit Man David Brock lines up his sights on Johnny Mac with a new org Progressive Media USA (PMUSA)!
Hey all,
Just wanted to let you all know I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth.
In the midst of “the move” and haven’t got my puter set up yet. have been trying to follow the show but it doesn’t always come in here. What I’ve heard I’ve liked.
Should be back on line over the weekend so I’ll be able to down load podcasts, watch youtubes, read two weeks worth of posts and comments, not to mention sort thru a fecal matter load of e-mails.
talk to you all soon (I hope)

John Patrick Murtha, born June 17, 1932.
He’s too old to be in the House of Representatives, isn’t he? 🙂
To Post 37…
In State of Denial: Bush at War, Part III (as excerpted in Newsweek), journalist Bob Woodward of The Washington Post wrote that “General John Abizaid, the commander of CENTCOM and thus the top military officer for the Middle East, was in Washington (on March 16, 2006) to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee. He painted a careful but upbeat picture of the situation in Iraq.” Subsequently, “he went over to see Congressman John Murtha, the 73-year old former Marine who had introduced a resolution the previous November calling for the redeployment of troops from Iraq as soon as practicable.” Abizaid said he wanted to speak frankly, and “according to Murtha, Abizaid raised his hand for emphasis and held his thumb and forefinger a quarter of an inch from each other and said, ‘We’re that far apart’.”[43]
On 1 October 2006, an interview of Woodward by CBS reporter Mike Wallace was broadcast on the television show 60 Minutes. The interview was about Woodward’s book State of Denial and Wallace mentioned the Murtha-Abizaid conversation. Wallace asked Woodward to confirm that Murtha had told him of this tale of meeting with Abizaid; Woodward nodded his head in assent and said yes. Woodward said that Murtha was the “heart and soul of the military”.[44]
From Wikpedia.
John Murtha, is “too old”? Much has been made as to the age of certain Presidential candidates, notably the honorable Senator John McCain…which I find ridiculous. Age is not the issue…but the soundness and clarity of mind.
The only issue that one might question about “clarity of Mind” on John Murtha would (to me at least) be that Murtha has endorsed Hillary Clinton. 😉
To Post 38:
It was a joke. It was a joke. It was a joke.
LOL….ok Bella….LOL….
Remember, WE are getting “older” too! 🙂
“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” Mark Twain
Source NY Daily News Click | Here
Mark Twain said that????? I had a boyfriend once who took credit for that line, and I BELIEVED HIM!
PT, welcome back. I noticed your absence, and hope things don’t get too messy with all those emails. smile
Oh, and congratulations to me for winning the Imus Times NCAA bracket. I was behind the whole time too!!! I’ve NEVER picked a winning team. So, thank you Kansas!
Fake Egan, donde esta? We sure could use a little cardinal for laughs around here!
alice
My favorite Mark Twain quote about age-and-wisdom:
By the time Twain was middle-aged, his dad must’ve been a genius.
(Hi, Alice 🙂
Why are the comments closed on “Growing Up Green?” I wanted to post there how much I admire Deirdre, that I bought her last book, and I will buy this one too even though my kids are grown and almost-grown. I’m sure there will be plenty of know-how I can use, plus, as a “collector,” it would drive me crazy not to have a “complete set” of anything!
Good question Frec, intent is to keep pulling the post forward…
Alice…you won???? How did I miss that? Congratulations! What was your prize?? :))
(Much better, thank you).
Thanks for the reply, Chan. Not meant as critique…just curious since I hadn’t encountered that here as yet. Always forward motion…good philosophy for life…if I stop, I rust… 🙂
Hello Frec,
I would add your comment to the growing up green post…
New thread
I think the Reverend Wright issue is a manufactured issue as is the bitter issue. Both are trumped up by Hillary as a means to fight off Obama.
Additionally, I really believe the only reason Hillary won in Ohio was the mischief conducted by Rush Limbaugh, telling his supporters to crossover and vote Hillary. In PA that will not be happening.
As an American whenever I go to the voting both I think it is important to look at the individual and they fit the job that needs to be done. I have to tell you two of the three candidates impress me as more of the same as what we have now. One guys looks to take the country in a different direction.
I have voted for Ronald Regan and George H.W.Bush (twice I might add). However, as we go forward from here I am worried about our rights being taken by over zealous ideologues such as GWB. I am worried that more people including nieces, nephews and family friends are going to be killed in Iraq. I worry about a trade policy that sends American manufacturing jobs to China. I am concerned that the same policy gives tax breaks to those who do take jobs overseas. I worry that the US is headed into being a third world nation economically. I am worried that without a national health care system that American manufacturing will never be able to compete with countires that do provide life time health care and place all the health care costs on corporations who close the American factory where the corporation pays the health care insurance premium: and send the jobs abroad where there are no health benefits or the country supplies the health benefits. I could go on all night.
