Imus In The Morning with Dick Gregory
CHANX CliffsNotes on Dick Gregory’s Comments
Race in America:
You want a some young women and a whole lot of concubines? Just go to Texas and join that Mormon Cult. They’re getting welfare, food stamps for those children. No one is complaining. Let that happen in a Black Church and see what happens!
I’m so glad at Obama! You White folks better be glad I’m not running and you Black folks too. I wouldn’t hire anything but can’t read, can’t write Negroes. Because you White folks with your cabinets and PHDs done messed up the whole planet. LET ME TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
Hillary Assassination Comment:
Blames Negroes for that comment; Andy Young, Maxine Walters who backed Clinton but didn’t school her. Black folks have been thinking Obama is going to assassinated. So when you use that word you have confirmed it. She gives no sensitivity to what is really going on in the country.
Obama/McCain Campaigns:
Obama when they tell you your to young just mention Jesus. He was 33 when they wiped him out and we are still talking about him. Joan of Arc was 18 and she is the only general who is a Saint!
McCain can’t win, has nothing to do with him. The economy will knock him down. When it gets to the money, racism and all that is a luxury item. Suggest McCain send his researchers over to Holland to study the 17th Century Tulip Bubble (tulipomania)
President Clinton:
Apology to Bill, ‘We meant for you just to play Black, didn’t mean for you to think you were Black’. To Clinton its alright to play Black. When you start using it as your address we got some serious questions to ask you…
Gas Prices:
One thing we can all agree on; Welfare mother PHD, vegetarian, Italians, Jews, meat eater, rich, poor. Everybody have one thing in common, they are all complaining about the gas.
Economy:
You stop and think about how bad things are, no one is complaining about it. They are talking about 17,000 retailers going out of business between now and Christmas, Sharper Image is already gone. I knew things were bad 12 years ago when white people started having happy hour. I would go in there and no one was happy!
Rev. Wright:
People say why didn’t Obama leave the church? So why do the rules change when it becomes my turn?
Nuns and priests both have college educations. Yet nuns don’t have equal rights with priests! She can’t give communion. She can’t listen to confessions. Nobody said why didn’t the nun leave the church? Where those priests were ripping off those little boys I never read where a priest or nun left the church. What they were doing was criminal. At least what Jerimiah Wright was doing wasn’t criminal!
Before this Wright thing broke there were people in Chicago who didn’t know Jerimiah Wright. When the Monica Lewinsky thing broke the whole world knew. Bill Clinton disgraced Hillary and her daughter. She didn’t leave! She stayed there! So why do the rules change when it becomes my turn?
The Jerimah Wright piece adminsters to me a hurt, a pain. Twentyfour hours, that I’d like to make believe its going to go away in twentyfour hours. There is something inside. Anytime I let a white racist system reduce me below the dignity that God gave me, just so I can feed my family and pay the rent, the universe will destroy me from the inside.
Dick Gregory apologizes to the first Black President
Thanks for the New thread Channel. The race issue is the main issue in the News of Politics and the United States. And Dick Gregory using comedy does put perspective in the discussion of this timely topic.
But before I get off my obsessive soap box I am going to make mention of something to ALSO put things in perspective.
The word apparently is a very common word in the English language. Yet the scholar, MEL, cannot even spell that correctly. So please Mel do not correct my spelling when you cannot spell the simplest of words.
Thank you all and Good Night. Enough is Enough.
Another I-Fav at the helm of a cable competitor!
JC Watts was my pick for McCin’s Vice Choice.
McCain/Watts vs Gore/Sebelius
Well I am here Mark. Go for it my friend. Love to put you back under your bridge along with your friend.
Where do I start to put Dick Gregory’s comments into perspective.
Perhaps the economy would be a good place to start.
Gregory expresses shock that the mall icon Sharper Image is in bankruptcy. Reality? This is a business that has long been operating on the edge. It’s most popular products are the nose/ear hair trimmer and Ionic Breezers. Back in February of 2006 Sharper Image went into bankruptcy, fired the Chief Executive and Founder, reorganized the company and made another run at it. Just two years later the company is back in bankruptcy. Lack of product, inability to innovate, litigation involving Ionic Breezers and liquidity is what did Sharper Image in. It’s as simple as that, Dick.
Dick also quotes a seemingly horrific 17,000 retailers in the US going out of business. Large number until you put into context of 14,000,000 businesses in the US. Which means Dicks horrific number is about 1% of all businesses.
Note to Dick Gregory: Maybe the reason no one is talking about it is…. IT”S NOT A PROBLEM

I don’t know if there is enough news junkies to go around. This is re the J.C. Watt’s article. I think when MSNBC tried to find themselves and Griffin pulled out, far left politics as their forte-speciality, it was an error in judgement, mind you it wasn’t his first 😉
I don’t entirely agree with Dick Gregory but I don’t see why people shouldn’t hear mulitple points of view, this is a man who has lived along time and experienced a great deal. I wouldn’t judge him, I have not walked around in his shoes. At heart he is a comedian. Nuns and Priest are not the same as Obama sitting out in the pews of United Trinity Church, Obama isn’t clergy. There are no Catholics, I have spoke to who think what has happened in the Roman Catholic church is okay, and the Church has suffered in America because of the abuse of children. Nuns wed Jesus when they take their vows, does Dick Gregory want them to get a Divorce GRIN. I am in no way apologizing for Catholic Clergy, they get exactly what they deserve, they should remember their own sermons about the flesh being weak.
ChannelX,
Did you ever see that Danny DeVito movie “other people’s money” it reminds me what predators in the wild do, they cull the herds. There is a place for everything in nature when wolves hunt in packs, they pick off the weak, diseased and vunerable, they actually strengthen the herds of deer, antelope, elk ect.. genetic make up. People forget Humans are part of Nature, we all have natural instincts it is when those instincts are corrupted people get into trouble- see Enron. The Free Market isn’t supposed to be an all you can eat buffett.
Larry the Liquidator

Ree,
Dick’s approach is to deflect attention on Wright and blame the Catholic Church. Wonder what I-Fav Bill Donohue perspective on Gregory’s comments are?
I’ll cross this topic off my list now.
ThanX
The link to other people’s money summary, got hung up in spam filter, you can google it Devito played Larry the Liquidator.
Ree,
The only thing I can say about Dick Gregory is he does repeat himself a bit. But it is true. Hard for a White person to experience what he has gone through in his 75 years.
So much turmoil. And it seems to have reared it’s ugly head since Obama and Hillary are head to head.
And the mention of the Imus Debacle on April 4, 2007 was a reminder how sensitive so many African American’s are. And MSNBC/WFAN did cave to these pressures when all they had to do was suspend Imus and let him come back.
Another thing about Gregory on Imus. Having him on for that long takes the impact of his statements away. One segment should have been enough.
As you can see I do not agree with our other friends over there on ITth. But now I am back and ready for the onslaught of comments.
The important things Imus is doing is discussing it. Where as everyone else in the media is afraid to.
And thanks for commenting on the Yahoo presentation. Received Alison’s complete show too late and cannot change it now. But think it shows what an early 70’s DJ was like. Just a bit disappointed that Charles wasn’t doing any News during this montage.
ChannelX
I think what Dick Gregory is witnessing is the empty spaces at malls. It gives the impression this is because the economy is bad but in reality many places are going to a forum outdoor situation the major big box stores sign up the chain restraunts buy slabs ect…more hardscape. What Dick should be commenting on is why are we building new shopping experiences all over and leaving empty spaces in malls? Urban Sprall? How much of this building is necessary? Don’t get me wrong I shop locally, I support my local economy.
Do you remember when New Jersey had flooding problems, I think this was a year or so ago. I have folks who live south of in northern virginia, having flooding problems too. They have a creek behind their house and I was saying to my father in law, that would be good for them as it diverts water it gives the water a channel for flow. I remember the news was saying the problem in New Jersey with flooding, and I can’t remember the exact location, was too much hardscape, and the water need to drain. Ideally some of it need to be soaked up by the earth.
Bruce,
I don’t have a problem with Dick Gregory repeating himself, he usually does it to puctuate his point, he would have to come up with a new analogy each time, he tries to make the same point, when his first one works. He is up early in the morning also and I like to see people in the studio. I actually find the man very charming, I do come away feeling he doesn’t especially trust people based on color but again I didn’t have his life experience, and I can’t say, I wouldn’t be shaped into the exact same mold of person if I had.
Bahrains World is taking shots at the people bleeding us dry at the pump, they can keep it up daily in my opinion. Even Soros has come out and made a statement on the price of a barrell of oil. Fox News comparing prices in Iran 41 cents and Venezula 12 cents a gallon. So there is no lack of oil just specualtors driving the price up to fund pensions?
Ree,
The nature of retail is change. Malls drew business away from downtowns and center cities. Now big box stores are pulling business from malls. Note to Dick: This means the market works! Consumers are expressing preference and the economy is experiencing normal healthy cyclical change.
The Raritan River Basin and the Passic Valley are prime flood areas in NJ. This was originally farmland which was built up. Floods were beneficial to farmers retrospectively not so beneficial to home owners!
Maybe Urban Sprall was incorrect maybe this building practice is Suburban Sprall.
ChannelX,
I know locally they are going to these old time looking downtown shopping experiences, we have a Parkers Place it is very nice you get out and walk store to store outside sidewalk. The malls do have a big empty spaces, and the old strip malls samething empty store fronts. I wish they could be rehabilitated for somekind of civic use instead of just sitting empty.
Isn’t that the truth Ree. Maybe Bahrains World wasn’t especially funny. But the irony is there. And it is a point about how the Saudi’s are bleeding us dry.
But more in line with what you said about speculators. They will someday find that they are up the creek without a paddle when we get out of our blue funk and decide to drill and produce the crude we need here.
And the American Car Companies must change their methods. Instead of large vehicles let’s get down to a more economical design. Danger is these vehicles would be no match for the larger ones in an accident. We do have the technology though.
Will be putting together all the pieces of the Gregory segments later tonight. Had a special request from my friend and our friend Donald Inks. He says hello to his friends here. Had some tests today and missed the program.
So all in all it was the normal Monday/Tuesday Imus. He left time specifically for Dick Gregory. Many nay sayers that this was a mistake. I don’t think so.
I also like listening to Dick Gregory. He represents a perspective and how people are thinking which is an opportunity to begin the discussion.
Take the discussion regarding the nuns and priests. Facts: A 1)Large number of people have left religious life over the years, is 2)The number of people entering religious life is significantly down. Are these factors in the equality issue or the scandals?
Gregory’s perspective on the religious is not substantiated by facts.
BTW – Following the news on the scandals donations to the Church were way down and continue to be down. Catholics vote with their wallets! Catholics also change parishes as well as dioceses.
Ree, The market will find a use for those empty strip malls. There is opportunity waiting for a business case. I’m confident of that…
ChannelX,
And I think that is finally what got the Church in Romes attention. That was the hopeful part of the Pope’s visit.
Dick Gregory has a wikipedia page.

Dick Gregorys wikipedia link stuck in spam fliter 🙂
I thought it was cool and it has a photo of him when he was a young man.
Gosh I hate that thing. Makes no sense that it would hold up a wiki link – absolutely none.
Dick Gregory is not the only person to find themselves while serving…

thanks for the WABC rewind, Brucie… 8) very cool
boy, i love that 77WABC retro logo. outstanding!
Imus and Johnny Donovan aren’t the only ones who remember the K-Tel commercials of the 70s.
You are welcome Keith. Only you and the many close friends here can call me Brucie.
It’s a compliment.
Isn’t Barnicle on WTKK 96.9 does he know the people, the news junkies who listen to him also read and write blogs? Why hasn’t he been on Imus In The Morning lately? I know MSNBC reacts to the blogs is this what is making Barnicle annoyed? He has a point about the blogs leading news reporting there isn’t a clear definition btw the two at MSNBC, look at the effect of MMFA on MSNBC alone.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/05/28/barnicle-bloggers-nitwits-who-think-theyre-part-news-media
Recent Imus mentions of Barnicle include references to getting on the old peoples bus and Barnicle is so over. They must of had a falling out over something. Have no clue as to what happened.

This is from Malkin and it has to do with the U.S. and stratgey to keep us safe I think this falls under the discussion about whether Obama understands foreign policy and how to use the American Military. Grey Fox comment number #52 This is always left out because I believe people on the very far left don’t understand how the Military Instrument is used for National Security. I also commented to someone about Jimmy Carter my comment #57 I voted for Carter I am so disappointed in his behavior. God and Country first. President Carter served in the Navy, what else has he forgotten?
This is a kind of response re Mr Gregory’s comment, you should be glad it is Barack Obama and not me.

College Girl has one of those personality test I took it I am Rob Bartlett 🙂 No not really this was so wierd and it has like 4 questions very probing. CG found it on myspace.

Your above quote,
but there are people who will side with doing the right thing, said a party insider…okay now there is a judgement call on people being loyal? The DNC is messed up they won’t be happy till they alienate everyone. This is a sign they are in big trouble put any kind of happy face you want on it, play Indenity Politics in America and you could foresee these results. Win at any cost mentality?
ChannelX,
Not Another Imus Blog hung up in Spam filter all go take a look at the personality test you can take. I took test and got Rob Bartlett.
I took it…
Which Imus in the morning character are you?
Bernard McGuirk
There is something about the party rules which says only half the delegates can be seated by the DNC! If HRC wants to contest only the Rules Committe can change the party rules which requires a floor vote by the Denver Delegates.
Thanks for the personality test Ree from College Girl. Seems I am Bo Dietl. OMG
Agree, that who here can give the viewpoint of a 75 year old African American male in this country (of all countries!)??. Walk a mile in my shoes, people in glass houses, etc, etc. Dick Gregory obviously speaks from his own experience. That is apparently what everyone who voices an opinion here and other sites do. Continue the diologue.
I spent several days in D.C. this past week. Awesome, the powerful, important feeling/emotions of this city. Everyone had an opinion; waiters, waitresses, cab drivers. No one was derrogatory. Many ethnic cultures there; WOW- not everyone from America. Asians, Indians, Middle Easterns, German, French, etc. The U.S.A. citizens are not the only people on the planet, and when we get a grip to that, we may do some good for us, our country, and our children. I just happen to believe Obama can reach out to other ethnicities, cultures. Arlington was humbling. We need as a country to get over ourselves and open our hearts to other views, people, cultures, religions and stop being the world police.
taryngracia’
I take offense to some of what you said.
The U.S.A. citizens are not the only people on the planet, and when we get a grip to that, we may do some good for us, our country, and our children.
———————————————————————
It is proven that United States citizens are THE most generous people on the planet. When a country is in trouble, whom do they turn to?? How dare you suggest we are a country that thinks of ourselves only, that we are the only people on the planet. You have a very negative view our our citizens, shame on you. Where else would you prefer to live????
As for Obama, he thinks there our 58 states and memorial day is a day to honor our war heros. He needs a civics lesson. Harvard grad haha –he is a product of affirmitive action thats for sure!
Washington DC is truly an international city, a great place to visit.
Question is – Can Obama reach out to all those bitter whites who are clinging to their religon and guns?
goiman:
I am not suggesting this is not a wonderful and generous country…however, we have our issues, too, as do most. Katrina? I am from Fl., wondering it that hit in a rich Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area, would there have been people hearded into a stadium without food and water? Without life-sustaining medication? (hurricane Charlie was supposed to hit my area in Tampa Bay- my first worry was how would I give my young diabetic son insulin, that needs to be kept refrigerated…). It seems to me, everything is all good as long as it does not affect “you”. Tell me, if you had a child/family member with a disease that could be cured with stem cell research (my long time fave, Bill Clinton, signed that bill in- Bush signed it out- I will love Bill forever for that); I was told 16 yrs ago the cure for that disease for a 4 yr old was 5 yrs away- however, Bush signed that bill out. HMMMMM, so did Reagan and Nancy until Ronnie suffered from Alzheimer’s, now the Reagan family is all for it…(cures for both of those diseases on similar genes- those cures are genetically hand in hand)- Does it take people to have it TOUCH them to react? Have any of you had a soldier killed or wounded in an occupying “be like us or you will be obliterated war?”. Sorry, when things touch home, you may have a different perspective.
I get to be Charles McCord…WHAT a relief!! 🙂
The United States of America is not the only Country in the World. However we are the only Country that does help other Countries when they are in need. This is a good thing.
We as a Nation are facing hard times with the Economy mainly due to Gas Prices. This is a product of not only the ill advised Iraq war and the greedy oil Companies but a Government that wastes more money then it takes in. And even tax breaks for the wealthy is not hurting our coffers. The top 5 percent of wage earners pay over 95 percent of the Income taxes in the U.S. As it stands now. But would certainly like the lower wages earners get a break too.
The money currently being spent in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Japan on our armed forces is truly destroying our Country. Though to protect our interests and remain the leaders of the free World some of this is a necessary evil.
If we look at what a fresh outlook on this Country with Barack Obama at the helm, a change would occur. Inexperience is not necessarily a bad thing since as President’s do not have as much power as we are led to believe. That is why we have a Senate and Congress. They are suppose to balance his powers. Though in the last 8 years they have done absolutely nothing. The Democrat Party is just as much to blame as the Republican Party.
The statement by Barack Obama regarding (57) States was a slip in my estimation. We actually have 50 plus American Samoa ,Puerto Rico , Canal Zone ,Virgin Islands/St. Croix, St. Thomas, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and/or Guam .
Never heard him say 58, but could have missed that.
We have to remember that the United States was built on immigrants from every Country. And it is still the haven that people seek when they are being oppressed by their own Country.
If the election goes to Obama it will not make a difference in my opinion. But the United States of America can not turn it’s back on our allies at any cost.
And the argument that not allowing Hispanic’s in this Country and or deporting them that are illegal is ill conceived. Only convicted criminals should be deported and not housed and fed in our prisons.
We as a Country would not save money, we would lose productivity. Who will pick our crops? Do you believe or does anyone believe a born and raised American is going to sweat and slave in the fields to do this for a minimum wage? I doubt it. The Hispanic people I have worked with are hard working individuals. So are the Asian people. They know that the money they can make here is far more then what they could make in their mother land. And they are more budget minded than American’s born and raised here.
No we cannot allow our borders be so weak that anyone can get in. There should be no amnesty for those that got here illegally and we should not deport those that have so far.
Socialized medicine is not the answer either. Big Pharma should be controlled more closely by our Government. The insurance Companies are another group of high flying thieves. They too should be curbed from charging ridiculous premiums. And disallow valid claims for lame clauses in their policies.
What’s the answer? Does any one person know?
NAFTA must be overturned. And who led the charge for that? I believe it was a Clinton.
It’s like a three ring circus. November 2008 is truly going to an interesting month in Politics. No matter who you vote for. Just vote.
Bruce, good post.
Agree Senate and Congress and have done nothing to end the cluster……in Washington. We have lost a lot of allies, however, due also to the stubborn viewpoint of non-deplomacy; we are the “super power of the world” and no one better disagree with us. We need to get over it. Is not government controlled medicine, socialized medicine?
VOTE 2008
Taryn,
We also need a country that takes care of it’s own, that protects its own, that values it’s own, that cares about others but very practically cannot solve all the problems of the world. The United States of America reaches out more to other countries in need probably than any other nation in the world…always has…always will, as long as it’s still a country.
Arlington IS humbling, isn’t it? I’ve been there also. It is filled with those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I can bitch and complain all we want about who is running, what their faults are, and why we are voting for a certain candidate. Yes, Arlington is humbling indeed.
Katrina? Once again the government was blamed for all the problems of Katrina. Uncle Sam is strong, isn’t he? He carries a lot of responsibility and applied guilt on his shoulders, that’s for sure, and no matter what goes wrong, he is there to take all the beatings over it. Rightly so, at times, I suppose…still Uncle Sam stands tall….and why does he stand tall?..well, back to Arlington.
Why not break it down? You have your family, your home, your own ideas about how it should be run? You help your neighbors as much as you possibly can. Yet, it is impossible for you to be popular all the time without sacrificing your own values. If someone tries to break into your home or is a threat to your loved ones, most probably you would want to do all you could to protect them. Right? ….and I agree that it is not the right thing to barge in on another’s “home” and try to clean it up, unless all the knowledge that I have available causes me to make the difficult decision to do so. Being a leader is a lonely place.
Where are the leaders of these nations that are suffering? Why isn’t Mexico ashamed that their own citizens have to flee their country in order to survive? Is it because Mexico benefits from the sufferings of their citizens? Do they not send money home to their families?…..which in turn boosts Mexico’s economy? These leaders, who care nothing about their people, should bear the guilt, not the United States of America. My God, we have opened our doors for so long, the house is overflowling and our own “children” suffer because of it.
I see a one world, one government trying to take hold. It’s frightening.
Before we start beating ourselves up over US attitudes towards immigrants. Recall the French use of the Polish Plumber in opposition to the European Constitution as a symbol of cheap labor coming in from Central Europe.
Polish Tourism Board published this poster of the Polish Plumber in response: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Polish_Plumber.jpg
Here is the Polish Nurse also published by the Polish Tourism Board:

Ginger- good points…I tend to have the view that we need to save everyone, and obviously we cannot. It can be depressing…..maybe why I am drawn to Obama, no one knows what will happen with either change of guard, but feel good about hope.
Recently
I heard that the people of Florida are buying guns at an alarming rate due to the thefts that are occuring in homes and businesses due to the economy.
That I believe is a truly scary thought.
A Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth. May perish if we do not do something NOW! Like yesterday.
God Bless America
You guys are so negative! We live in the BEST country in the world! BE POSITIVE! Don’t pass around negatives, especially if your not sure.
Taryn,of course, we cannot save everyone. It is impossible. We cannot take upon ourselves all the burdens of the world, just as you can’t take upon yourself all the problems of those close to you. There comes a time when the most important thing is for you to maintain your own sanity. If you can’t protect and guard your own mind, well, then, you are of no use to anyone. One can take that personal example and apply it to nations.
There is no need to be depressed about any of this. Do what you can within your own ability and just press forward. There is great strength in that.
Taryn, Obama scares the hell out of me, but if he gets the presidency I will tell you that I will do my best to give him the benefit of the doubt as long as I possibly can, and yes I will pray for him because believe me, that guy is going to need it! All I have to do is remember all the Bush hatred. When conservatives and independents start applying this type of bashing, negativity, and hatefilled attitudes toward an Obama presidency as the liberals have piled on to Bush, then the liberals will reap what they have sown. Get ready..
There was a time, at the beginning of this nominating process, that change was everything..you know.. sacrifice all for change. Well, I myself have changed in the process, and I have realized that change is not always a good thing….and as far as HOPE…that lies within the heart of the individual, not some politician that spouts the word over and over until it doesn’t even mean anything to me anymore.
.
Negative is not in my vocabulary. Think I was emphasizing the positive.
The United States is the greatest Country in the World. We have just lost a little because of what occurred in Iraq.
As Taryn said; paraphrased. We as American’s do not know how good we have it compared to others. We take for granted things that are out of reach of others. Endless possibilities if we put our minds to it.
If anyone believes Hillary is the one, Vote for her.
If anyone believes Obama is the one, Vote for him.
And
If anyone believes McCain is the one, Vote for him.
It will not matter.
How long did it take Ronald Reagan to get our crazy inflation in the late 70’s and early 80’s back to normal?
I remember when CD’s (Certificates of Deposit) were earning upwards of 18 percent annually. I know what my Parents paid in interest on a bridge loan for the new Condo they were buying. Who’s fault was that?
Was it Carter’s? Probably. He was one of the weakest President’s we have ever had. And yet he goes around preaching to our enemies. Actually consorting with our enemies.
Stifle the menace. Tell him to shut up and go home and eat peanuts.
No these comments are not negative at all. They are what make this Country great. The freedom to speak our own minds.
I am not in the mood to give it all away a whole lot of people since the forming of this country have paid for this, in the constitution it states I have “Rights” not because I am a Citizen of the World because I am a Citzen of the United States of America.

Senator Jim Webb is a guest tomorrow, I was looking at his biography and found something really interesting, he wrote a book titled, Born Fighting How the Scots-Irish Shaped America.
The mythical Scots Irish again 🙂 The name comes from the Scots who migrated through Ulster Ireland to America, I have a few family lines that came through that route.
Do you remember Dick Gregory mentioning that the Irish were called the Fighting Irish and they turned it around to make it a positive, I guess he is referring to Notre Dame? I don’t want to mis quote him or take him out of context but the Irish reputation for Fighting is an old one going back centurys in Ireland, we were fighting other country’s wars “The Wild Geese” Fighting Irish, we were stereotyped, for brawling all the time, which we earned BIG GRIN.
These are two critiques, for Webbs book, that was based on his Family’s history. Born Fighting How the Scots-Irish Shaped America. I can relate to a family historian, and one of Scotish descent, there are Webbs that intermarried into my families in Knox Co.,Ky., in fact my 3rd Great Grandparents are buried in the Webb Cemetary in Daviess Co.,Missouri. John and Mary (Campbell) Lambert, who were both born in Clear Creek, Knox Co.,Ky. The Campbells are believed to have come out of Augusta Co.,Va., a destination for the Ulster Scots..the Black David Campbell line and the White David Campbell line. I didn’t know Webb had researched his family’s history and orgin. The complaint in the reviews is he is a romantic SO? I think I might buy this book. This first review is leaving out Albions Seed in his critique of Webbs book. I guess by not mentioning Anglo Saxon culture by name it makes it look like Webb isn’t addressing a really old at odds relationship btw the Scots, Irish and the English, that old rivalry did cross the ocean. If I had to guess this first review was written by a WASP, that is White Anglo Saxon Person.
Amazon.com
From Publishers Weekly
Former navy secretary Webb (Fields of Fire; etc.) wants not only to offer a history of the Scots-Irish but to redeem them from their redneck, hillbilly stereotype and place them at the center of American history and culture. As Webb relates, the Scots-Irish first emigrated to the U.S., 200,000 to 400,000 strong, in four waves during the 18th century, settling primarily in Appalachia before spreading west and south. Webb’s thesis is that the Scots-Irish, with their rugged individualism, warrior culture built on extended familial groups (the “kind of people who would die in place rather than retreat”) and an instinctive mistrust of authority, created an American culture that mirrors these traits. Webb has a genuine flair for describing the battles the Scots-Irish fought during their history, but his analysis of their role in America’s social and political history is, ironically for someone trying to crush stereotypes, fixated on what he sees, in almost Manichaean terms, as a class conflict between the Scots-Irish and America’s “paternalistic Ivy League-centered, media-connected, politically correct power centers.” He even excuses resistance to the “Northern-dominated” Civil Rights movement. Another glaring weakness is the virtual absence of women from the sociological narrative. Webb interweaves his own Scots-Irish family history throughout the book with some success, but by and large his writing and analysis are overwhelmed by romanticism.

From Booklist
*Starred Review* In telling the story of the Scots-Irish in America as a robust and passionate tale, novelist Webb writes straightforward, no-nonsense, readable history that clips right along while it is also very personal and highly idiosyncratic about a people who, he claims, are largely invisible–taken for granted–to the general public and who, seldom thinking of themselves in ethnic identity terms, mostly don’t know their culture. Webb maintains that Scots-Irish attitudes form the bedrock of American society, especially among the working class. Scots-Irish culture has produced American presidents from Andrew Jackson to Bill Clinton, soldiers from Ulysses S. Grant to George Patton, pioneers, preachers, and others whose most common characteristics may be described as fierce individualism, persistent egalitarianism, and a strong sense of personal honor. Perhaps the most visible examples of broad and ongoing Scots-Irish legacy are the fundamentalist Christianity (a potent combination of Scottish Calvinism and headstrong populism) of America’s Bible Belt and country music. Webb begins the Scots-Irish saga in Scotland, where, he says, the Scots-Irish character was formed, moves on to the Ulster Scots of what is now Northern Ireland, and follows them to the Appalachians and points beyond as well as through the American Revolution, the Civil War, and up to the present day. Popular history at its finest. June Sawyers

Laree,
I can give you a first-hand recommendation of Jim Webb’s book, “Born Fighting.” I had posted about it last week, probably on IT. I read the book, lent it out, didn’t get it back, went out and bought another one. I refer to it constantly. Anyone who reads this book will gain a deep insight into the “American psyche,” regardless of their original ethnicity. If you are now an American, this book tells you about you.
The other book you mentioned, “Albion’s Seed: Four British Folkways in America” by David Hackett Fischer is another must-read for anyone who seeks a keen understanding of the roots of our culture. It is like an enclyclopedia of American social history. Fischer traces everything we do, think, believe, worship, teach, wear, say, build, fight, and eat to four regions of migration from the British Isles…and explains how and why we’re still doing all those things from over 200 years ago.
You cited two good ones…I give them both five stars.
[P.S. The two genealogists in my own family belong to our Webb branch, originally from Maryland’s Eastern Shore] 🙂
Webb’s GI Bill is a nice start but he should be listening to McCain.
Johnny Macs gripe is the benefit cannot be transferred to either spouses or offspring. This is important because a lot of the people who go into the military 1) are not college types, 2) starting families by the time their enlistments are over and/or 3) need to work to support their lifestyles.
As for people not re-enlisting? Bonuses will take care of that. McCain is right to think about that cost.
Sure Imus will give Webb a pass on McCain’s position. Imus never stands up for nor defends Johnny Mac. Just go to the top post and look at the nonsense Gregory was spewing regarding Obama (Jesus/Joan of Arc) and McCain (Tulips).
Which brings me back to tulipomania. Gregory wants McCain to research Holland? Dick is comparing the US economy to 17th century Holland that’s absolute nonsense. (Give me a couple of hours to explain.)
Imus said today that listening to Gregory was like being in College. Don’t know what college Imus went to but my profs sort of insisted on facts to support opinions.
Okay Imus didn’t actually go to college. But if McCain’s version of the GI Bill was in place for Imus – Wyatt would be able to go to any NY State College/University.
Did I ever tell you our family crest is based on a warrior tradition?
Channel,
I agree with you 99.9 percent of the time. But I must disagree with you about Dick Gregory. Most of what he says is to get a laugh. He has lived a life of 75 years learning what I will never learn.
College today is not where you learn much of anything but how much Beer you can drink between days of the week in my estimation. Or how many times you can score with a Man or a Woman in one night out is another thing happening in Colleges today. The way to learn is through the School of Hard Knocks. That is how I learned.
Learning on the job or in life is more beneficial then book learning unless you are specializing in Medicine or the Sciences. I have worked with some of these College Educated people. And most of them were dumber then a rock.
Currently I am putting together all segments of the Gregory appearance on Imus for you and the others that have signed up for the Yahoo Video presentations. And though I do not agree with everything he says. I always have to remember he is a Comedian first. He is a Scholar second.
Must have missed the part about him discussing Holland on first the first run through. So looking forward to that. So I respectively agree to disagree with you on this.
Everything Dick Gregory says is taken with a grain of salt. But some points that he makes do make sense in today’s society.
If we come together as a Nation of People no matter what color or ethnicity we are, we will prosper. Continuing to battle one another on Social matters will only lead to our downfall.
Later my Friend
A lot of people own homes who wouldn’t own homes under the old rules. I wouldn’t take that back would you?
Some people were caught with their hands in the cookie jar; lied, cheated or otherwise deceived themselves. There is a price to be paid.
Gregory gets a B+ for originality with barely a C- for facts. At best this would be graded a C. Of course that’s passing!
Q: What do you call a medical student who graduated last in his class? A: Doctor
I’ve been a “lurker” through all of these recent posts. Did not feel like adding anything except this.
Thanks for the intelligent, well reasoned reflections from all. A refreshing bit of posting not often found on the internet. You’re a great group!
Ski
I agree Channel. Some of Dick Gregory has his history a little skewed.
And whether Imus was right in saying he was listening to a history lesson or not, it was funny, entertaining and in perspective with the times.
The Holland thing with the Tulips was far out. Don’t know about that at all. And my ancestors were from there.
You will be receiving the final full unadulterated version in a couple hours.
And SkiWolf I am glad you are back. Thought you left the planet for parts unknown.
Now for my last attempt to gather those (Friend or Foe) who wish to receive these cuts on Yahoo Videos. I ask you to send me an email at bvb720@gmx.net
I do not care if you agree with me or not. If you are from Imus Times or Imus Truth. We are one big Family.
Just place your sign in name in the body of the email and will be glad to add you to the list. It’s growing as we speak. But I can handle all that wish to receive them. Most of them are never shared here.
Remember bvb720@gmx.net and you will get your audio presentations with some graphics. But nothing elaborate.

“The Border Rievers”
5 stars is very good rating!
The same 3rd Great Grandparents had among others my 2nd great grandmother, when she was widowed she married second a Belcher, his mother was a Webb and when his mother died his father married her sister who was also widowed that is the Webb family cemetary, they are buried in. I know that there were Campbells carrying Webb for a middle name and when this same second great grandmother married to first husband, they were living in Douglas Co., Kansas 1865 they were living next door to Webbs.
ChannelXRFR, they have heraldry online would you send me a link to your family’s coat of arms the family crest?
You all have to see this from Pastor Manning.

Laree,
Waiting patiently for Jim Webb…he’s coming on now… wow, he’s picked a defensive fight with Imus first thing…!
In the meantime, I chuckled over this passage in the link you posted…pretty much sumarizes my family’s story as handed down through stories I heard my grandfather tell…!
“Entire families were outlawed en masse, and some were extirpated by punitive expeditions. Many were forcibly resettled in Ireland, where officials complained that they were “as difficult to manage in Ireland as in north Cumberland,” and banished them once again this time to the colonies. The so-called Scotch-Irish who came to America thus included a double-distilled selection of some of the most disorderly inhabitants of a deeply disordered land.”
Frec,
This is from the back country link at the bottom of the link, I sent to the next page of Albion’s Seed.
The American Backcountry
The borderers entered America principally through the ports of Philadelphia and Newcastle. They moved quickly into the surrounding countryside, and in the words of one official, simply squatted wherever they found “a spot of vacant land.” The Quakers were not happy about this invasion. “Our people are in pain,” wrote Jonathan Dickinson in 1717, “From the north of Ireland many hundreds [have come].”27 The North Britons brought with them the ancient border habit of belligerence toward other ethnic groups. As early as 1730, Pennsylvania officials were complaining of their “audacious and disorderly manner.” One of them wrote, “I must own from my own experience in the land office that the settlement of five families from Ireland gives me more trouble than fifty of any other people. Before we were now broke in upon, ancient Friends and first settlers lived happily; but now the case is quite altered.”28
***************
“I must own from my own experience in the land office that the settlement of five families from Ireland gives me more trouble than fifty of any other people”
That sounds about right 🙂 The English -Scottish Border, bred a specific kind of people “the border reivers” they had two distinct practices “reiving” and ‘rustling” There were whole groups of people, that the authorities ended up targeting just by surname like the “Rutherfords” I have Bulls in my family lines, they come from the surname “Turnbulls” this is a Border Reiver surname. That comment I left above to ChannelX about a comment “Grey Fox” made on Malkin’s blog about the stratgeys, that George W Bush had to chose from after 9/11. One example Grey Fox gives is the “Rutherford Trace” the Cherorkee were attacking the settlers North Carolina area and somehow through a stratgey, the Settlers were able to best the Cherokee raiders, that is an accomplishment, the Cherokee had home field advantage and years of practicing gurerilla style warfare. That comment “Grey Fox” left also touches on what Michael Graham was speaking to yesterday about how to deal with Islamist facisim.
There is a point of view that the Anglos used the Scots -Irish to push the frontier back and once it was safely settled they would come in and push them further into the frontier. WASP I got that wrong, although Persons fits too… I should edit better before I hit submit. White Anglo Saxon Protestant.
I am guessing those folks who used that stratgey against the Cherokee probably brought that with them from the border region where fighting went on for centurys.
Remember when I was commenting about Obama’s Denham family line and I stated that if Obama was coming from the Chavez/Gibsons in Louisa Co.,Va., that was my family lines and Kin is Kin…that is what those folks are like Clannish it is about kinship and they brought that over from the Border Region too. That link I posted has a table of contents at the bottom if you click the link it takes you to specific pages one is on Kin and Clans.
Jim Webb touched on something this morning, when he mentioned a competition btw Blacks and working class Scots Irish, he mentioned afirmative action, this has been written about there is a book titled “How the Irish Became White”
Senator Jim Webb, reminds me of Col Jacobs, he will get out of his car.
Laree,
The Quaker section of Hackett’s book is one I return to regularly for facts and figures…they are the people from my maternal grandmother’s side…i.e., our family’s “secret history” which started being told when my aunt tracked down her grandmother’s grave in the yard of an abandoned Friends’ Meeting House near West Nottingham, on the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line. My uncle says they were rather strange people with odd habits and that’s why they’ve died out (though some of my cousins have re-joined the religion).
My bookseller told me David Hackett Fischer was planning a sequel to “Albion’s Seed.” That’s been several years ago, but I haven’t seen any sign of it.
I am looking forward to seeing what direction Senator Webb’s political career goes…
Laree,
Your frequent posts on genealogy have caused me to go find a book I have on our family published in 1968 by two great uncles from Kansas City.
The book is titled, “To and From James and Catherine Parshall”. The to part covers 896 – 1815 and the second part from 1815 – 1968. James and Catherine were my great grandparents x4 on my mother’s side.
On a funny note, is our Coat of Arms which includes of all things the head of a wolf holding in its mouth a marigold.
Go figure.
Our family History began in this country in the early 1600’s within 15 years or so of the landing at Plymouth Rock.
Anyhow, it is kind of cool to have this kind of history available to our family.
Opps make that grandparents x 3 I guess. These things are hard to read.
Skiwolf…
The “wolf thing” on your family’s coats of arms…?There are no coincidences in this world…it’s only a matter of searching for the tools and information to connect-the-dots. And they all lead to Imus!?! “)Amazing, isn’t it?
Yes, Laree, you are doing us all a great service by bringing your skills and knowledge to this forum. Thank you.
Skiwolf,Frec,
The Normans used the Wolf symbol on top of a Saxon’s coat of arms to identify them as “Outlaws” It is different if the wolf is on the coat of arms. There is a branch of Cookseys -old Saxon family, that resided in little Wolverhampton that had the wolf added to the top of the coat of arms. I don’t know what they did to displease the Norman conquers.
This one contains both. A wolf above the coat and a wolf incorporated into the top left corner of the coat. Below the coat appears the name Pershall which was the original English spelling of the name Parshall.

Very interesting Chanx…Chickaboomer blog…
Considering the fact that on cable news, as opposed to conventional reporting by the “mother ships” …NBC, CBS, ABC, and others, such as PBS and C-Span…
…I think some people are squealing bloody murder over distinct opinions and views about the obvious polarizations between, for instance, Fox News and MSNBC.
Given what polarization has done to this country in the last 8 years or so…I actually enjoy (for example) the Washington Journal on Sundays on C-span…where everyone is allowed to express their opinions, and there seems to be some middle ground to bring people and their outlook on life, politics ect. together.
I personally am open to any opinion…and we all know the saying about what opinions are…LOL.
For me personally, I rather enjoy cold hard facts and accurate and untainted history. 🙂
BTW ChanX…thanks for the well wishes! Gonna be a LOOOONG summer. LOL.

I found something on the Pershall family name, there are two family crest that uses the Wolf, it is attributed to either the Norway old Norse family or the Normandy family which is the Normans they use Lupus. I would need to see the actual Crest to see which one is which.
I won’t try and insert the link here but there are online depictions of the Pershall family crest in many different spellings of the name.
Channel,
I have been looking for that song for a long time. Expect a wonderful presentation on that in the near future.
Remember: We will not have Imus much in the next few months. So there will be plenty of time.
And frankly I am wondering why he is doing this just when he is getting warmed up. Must have been written in his contract or something.
I will add one more thing. Do not believe RFD-TV is the place for him. He needs a normal home. This is my opinion. And RFD is just not the place for Don Imus and the gang. But he knows best.
Enough said.

The name comes from a place “Peshale” There really isn’t a motto associated with the family Coat or Arms but one Robert Pershall likes “Better Death than Shame” According to the history I found, it is a wolfs head and a lions body in whole on the shield. If I could get the link to go through WordPress, I will post it next and you can go read the whole history yourself “Peshale” is a very old Saxon holding. From what I read Peshale belonged to a very old King…the family isn’t mentioned in the doomsday book kind of odd? There is significance that it is only the wolf’s head and not the whole body like you use for your avatar.
THE NAME.
From what has been said in connection with the arms it is quite evident that the real name of the family is Wolf, changing from Rognvald, the Wolf, in Norway to the Latin, Lupus, in Normandy. When the Normans went to Normandy they adopted the French system of calling themselves de or of the place which they held in feudal service to the Duke of Normandy. Here Rollo became duke and our family name was changed to de Normandi. And, as we have seen, our later ancestor came to be Count of Corbeil, so that thereby we were de Corbeil. The Countship of Mortaigne does not appear to have remained long enough in the family to have affected our name. Then came the emigration to England. Our ancestor had the Norman dislike of the barbarous English place names, so the next generation called themselves son of, or Fitz; therefore in our case the name was rendered as Robert Fitz-Gilbert de Corbeil. The next generation saw a marriage with a daughter of the Northumbrian royal family and almost unconsciously the son of Fitz-Gilbert became de Lumley and his father having acquired and given him Peshale, he became likewise de Peshale. In those days men had as many de or of names as they held manors. The name Peshale, as a family name, had its beginning in Robert the son of Robert Fitz Gilbert de Corbeil as he was the first to call himself de Peshale. He was also de Lumley. It was not until the second generation after, that the de Lumley was dropped as Robert de Peshale de Lumley had a son John who had the same surnames. Peshale always was a divided manor; there was a part of it held of the Bishops of Chester and John de Peshale de Lumley also acquired Swinnerton by marriage with the daughter and heir of Fitz Alan.
Skiwolf,
when you get done reading about the wolf and the merrigold all the history of the coat of arms hit the home button this is everything Pershall various spellings, maps migrations early immigration to America, the DNA project it is pretty cool someone has been busy on this family genealogy project.

Well while we are on memory lane. Here is something that brings back my greatest memories. I lived it, loved it and cherished this time in my life.
I also recorded their live performances on Ed Sullivan. You know who I am talking about now.
I have every one of their CD’s and cherish them. Also had their vinyls, singles and Albums.
If you grew up in the 60’s and you still have a memory here is what I found by checking out the site on You Tube that Channel pointed me to.
Enjoy.
When life is short, memories are what keeps us young.
Larre,
You are correct about all the different spellings of the name.
In our book they include, Pershale, Peshale, Pershall and Parshall.
The most distant relative positively identified was Rollo-Poopei the Viking in about 956. Who knows if all this stuff is true or not but it’s kind of interesting.
Reading this book gives me a headache LOL. Although the book does seem to be well documented and complete. The authors, my great uncles, even state that our family records were actually pretty easy to obtain and follow. Who knows. They did publish this 40 years ago.
To your previous question about a Margaret Pershall. I do find a reference to that name, but it is from a census done in 1698 so I’m not sure those dates work out.
Laree, Damn you are good at this. The name you used above, Swinnerton, struck a cord with my so I went and looked.
From page 13 of my book it explains that John de Swinnerton married Eleanor de Peshale borne of Sir Richard Peshale. This marriage “I think” led to the current coat of arms which the book says has remaind the same since 1350.
Frankly, it’s very hard to follow this stuff. And, not to drive the rest of the group nuts I guess this enough for now.
LOL — Sorry to all and thanks to Laree, of course.

Skiwolf,
Margaret Pershall married Richard Brent the Brents were Catholic the Brents go back maternally to a Kathrine Greville and through that line goes to John Duke of Gaunt, I was trying to take you back to a Royal line 🙂 Alot of the Brents came into early Maryland 1632 it was a refuge for worshiping Catholics.
You are Welcome and Yes this will drive people nuts! This is why I always refer to myself as nerd, I can picutre-imagine people’s eyes glazing over 🙂 If I had your email, I would have sent the links via email instead.
I can only speak for myself, but I’m okay with the genealogy links and information. I find it intriguing whether it’s about my folks or not. It doesn’t bother me at all to have our topics wander to-and-fro…
Besides, as with any topics and/or commentary on these and other boards we frequent, the reader is free to take a “scroll in the park” right past anything that interests them not. There is a button on my keyboard that is labelled “PgDn.” I bet other people have the same button on their computers too.
I’m good with the genealogy, its intriquing. Doesn’t suprise me at all that skiwolf traces back to royalty.

I would take over that task but she is very territorial about those players, she has told me she has like 50 of them she maintains for people, she really likes to set people’s music up. frustrated DJ? She stayed up three nights in a row once listening to Internet Radio and messaging on their bbs with all the other night owls doing the samething. Frec,
I can bring us back to a current event when Senator Webb was on Imus yesterday he mentioned the (Scots Irish) as a voting block, you know all those working class white people the media keeps telling us are voting for Hillary Clinton and a possible problem for Obama come November if he is the Dem Canidate. Webb has said, this is an invisible ethnicity, I really never thought of it that way I self identify American. I don’t know if Obama can woo these folks?
Yep, we knew Skiwolf is a prince, but now we know he’s a king!
As Senator Webb was speaking yesterday, I was thinking he might be the one to bring these elements together if he was Obama’s running mate. He would have to speak more persuasively than he did yesterday.
Someone elsewhere commented Webb was a “snooze.” I can see where they would say that if yesterday’s interview was their only exposure to him. It didn’t help that he picked a fight with Imus right off the bat – cast a pall on the interview. I didn’t hear the teaser-joke that set Webb off, but what else would you expect from a person who would tell the President of the United States to his face that a personal issue was “none of your business” ? (as Webb reportedly said upon GWB’s “kindly” inquiry as to how his son was then faring in Iraq deployment.)
Sen. Webb is even more of a pit bull than Col. Jack. If he’s at all like the Webb boys I’m related to, that doesn’t surprise me. If that horse-power can be harnessed to the Democratic ticket, it might go a long way to solving Obama’s “Appalachian problem.” Plus, if you read Webb’s book “Born Fighting,” you might understand just how far-and-wide “Appalachia” extends.
Imus on another radio station in Florida, still getting flack over a year later, you know I don’t think this is Indignation as much as it is Jealousy, these media people display some really low class behavior while pointing out what they “Think” they have a right to condemn….wait till they find themselves in the simliar situation, then it will all be the circuminstances in their cases. The idea that Journalist have somekind of elevated sense of social morality is debunked, everytime they chose to condemn those who don’t share their personal idealogy but excuse those who do share their personal idealogy. It isn’t rocket science figuring out where they are coming from. I can’t remember the last time I read something from a neutral view point?

Laree,
I’ve looked a bit more into that website you posted. The similarities are stunning. I’ve fired off an email to these guys telling them what we have. I also sent it to my brother who is really into this stuff. He’ll sit and stare at this for hours on end.
I of course, am too busy tending to my kingdom. LOL!
By the way, I’m heading up to Appalachia next week to visit the kin folks …so I might get scarce on the boards, but not to worry… 🙂

My Great Grand Uncle ended up in Vulcan, Alberta, Canada Appa- latch- cha, you can’t out run it 🙂 On his father’s side he went back to one of those Ulster Scots lines and on his mother’s side America Sueanne Lambert he goes straight back to Appalachia and her mother was a Campbell that goes back to another one of those Ulster Scot Lines. The McFarlands go back to the surname McFarlane “McFarlane’s Lantern” this was the discription of the moon the Scots used for lifting cattle.

I don’t know if Webb could bring about cohesion in a group of folks who are known for going there own way “Individuals”
I am watching the rush to push Hillary Clinton out of the democrat race, my advice to Hillary if it were me “I would go down swingin” the people Webb speaks of expect a fighter for a Nominee. Obama whines too much. When McCain offered, lets go to Iraq together. Obama should have come straight back and asked, When? I will clear my calender, lets do this thing. “strength”
*****************
For much of their history, the MacFarlanes were a very turbulent lot. Their rallying cry, “Loch Sloy”, signalled many a night raid to “collect” cattle from their richer neighbors to the south and east. Their march-piobaireachd ” Thogail nam Bo theid sinn” (To Lift the Cows We Shall Go) gives ample notice of intent. They were so competent that the full moon was known as “MacFarlane’s Lantern”.
A good friend of mine of Scotch descent (wears kilts) tells me in Scotland the guy with the longest bushiest eyebrows is the king! Skiwolf – hope you haven’t been triming yours.
Thot I heard a couple things this am; any idea?
RFD says Iman off Mon., Tues., but he told Nance he’d be on the radio Mon. morn.
Also, he mentioned emails & trash talking from daughter(?) regarding Lakers.
I heard the same thing MTNherbal. Yesterday he said he would be broadcasting from the ranch.
Guess we will have to wait until Monday. I will attempt to record it. I believe he will not be on RFD though.
Patrick just doesn’t want to invest in the transmission from the Ranch. Radio is better anyway.
Only caught the tail end of the Kessler appearance. What happened there?
Bruce,
Here is the summer schedule for Imus In The Morning for RFD TV, this amounts to 5 days off in June, that means he must be transmitting from the Ranch or ??? June 2 through June 4th and June 19 and June 20 are these dates incorrect, that amounts to 5 days off for June. Monday is the June 2 Tues June 3rd Wed June 4th So what happens on June 5th Imus is at the Ranch for the Summer? I program my DVR according to below they are on Thursday and Friday next week is this accurate? This is from Imus Truth below. This isn’t the 77WABC schedule, I understand there is a fill in for the radio on those days. I want to have the correct dates because I put them up on I Man Myspace page too.
Here’s RFD-TV’s list of the days Imus will be on vacation this summer. We hear he’ll be playing tennis and hanging out in the hot tub at the ranch on the following days:
May 26 (Memorial Day)
June 2 through June 4
June 19 and June 20
July 7 through July 11
July 14 through July 18
August 4 through August 8
August 18 through August 22
August 25 through August 29 (No Imus for the week of the Democratic Convention?!?)
September 1 (Labor Day)
channelXRFR,
The Iman wanted him off ASAP cause he wouldn’t go by the liberal script of hating Bush. Bernie said he will not be appearing ever again.
XRFR – Iman said he had no sense of humor. Correct. He asked him if he worked for Newsmax or the Bush administration and Kessler turned sort of pious. He also kept plugging his own book. Just sort of flat.
This Fall Imus is going to New Orleans at the request of Mr James Carville, Citadel has 4 stations in NOLA does anyone have a guess which one will be hosting Imus?

mtnherbal,
Most of his guests go on there plugging their books. He was flat, but the host didn’t help. He ridicules him because he didn’t bash Bush but used facts instead.
Imus is always great at pulling a guests personality out. My sense is “The Iman” sort of screwed up the Webb appearance yesterday and the Kessler appearance today. Both knocked him off his game, clearly his timing was off.
Whats up with Karith inviting Virgil on and bringing a friends dog in today. Maybe it was take your pooch to work day and I missed the memo? (Karith bringing that dog in did annoy the Iman 🙂 )
While I’m at it – What the heck is Deirdre doing telling Bernie to stop picking on Joy Behar? Her rationale is she has to listen to Behar complaining. Hint: Tell Joy to take it up with or otherwise shut her pie hole…
Ree,
That is the schedule stated on Imus Truth. Now I am a little confused with what Imus said then.
Channel,
When Deirdre is on, the show becomes a train wreck. Leave her home. She has received enough propping up by the I-Man. And bringing dogs on the show. Couldn’t see them but bet they were not shown.
And Deirdre is not the person in charge. And you can tell when Imus attacks her. But it seems it goes “Right over her head”, just like Wyatt said. Smart ass kid too.
So we shall see on Monday Morning. If he’s on it will most likely be on the WABC site/stream or maybe Citadel. You know the affiliates are not going for this interruption. To lose a money maker just when they need him.
Must be an answer somewhere. But Imus On Air doesn’t answer. Citadel/WABC doesn’t answer you.
We have already lost him for almost 8 months. Now we have to go with a haphazzard broadcast schedule? It was enough he was gone for the Christmas Holiday. Never happened on CBS radio or MSNBC, only Holidays.
And Goiman,
Newsmax is a rumor mill. Why in the World other then what Bernie said, was a person from that site talking on the Radio today? And this crane accident????? Took up precious minutes of the show. Lost Tony and Karith’s routines. News is important and I guess WABC radio did not want to interrupt Imus if he reported it directly. Just a guess. And that’s only a local thing. Wonder what the rural people on RFD thought?
The I-Man needs a new TV outlet. Not RFD. MY OPINION.
Go get ’em channelXRFR! Joyless Behar, what a sour-pus.
Well I wasn’t sure about Webb before but if the Progressives don’t like him, Senator Webb must be alright, that is good enough for me…too macho to be a progressive. ROTFL
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/30/qien-es-mas-macho/index.html?partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
I think FOX should acquire RFD and rename it the FOX-AG or just FAG
I keep trying to get this link to go through it is about Senator Jim Webb being too Macho to be a progressive. Honestly the progressive movement is full of girly men.
http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/30/qien-es-mas-macho/index.html?partner=rssuserland&emc=rss
Iman and his eastside friends need to face facts: Iraq is winding down, the economy hasn’t collapsed, Obama is a disaster and the only way to get more energy is to drill and/or build nuke plants.
I believe Imus lives on the upper westside…
totally agree with drilling and nuke plants, fwiw
Imus’ strength is his ability to provide powerful interviews regardless of a guests position. He is in danger of losing that as he takes on all these causes. Although he is 68?and maybe it just doesn’t matter.
goiman,
I know Joy Behar was on Larry King live hosting Rev Al Sharpton, when Imus went back on the air, she didn’t mind getting some attention then did she? I am not a Joy Behar fan, absolutely no balance, I could predict what she is going to say before she says it NO Suprizes.
Bruce my child loved Virgil, then I explained Wyatt is younger then you, and Imus used to say Virgil is Deirdre and Wyatt’s dog but Virgil grew on him. We are dog people so Imus has a convert 🙂 I am one of the folks who like to see Deirdre and Wyatt on occasion. When Deirdre really gets going though, I think about not recycling my paint and hazardous waste responsibily JUST KIDDING…no really I go out in the street and start rubber tires on Fire LOL! My older sister thinks Deirdre should have her own radio show…I don’t know how are you NOT supposed to dispose of used batteries? LMAO!
This whole article is posted on the NYT. this is the end, I wasn’t sure about Jim Webb before but if the Progressives don’t like him, that is good enough for me. Imus should have Senator Jim Webb back on. I can’t get the link through the spam filter…but seeing as Webb was just a guest on the show and how he came out of the shute with Imus, which I didn’t have a problem with. Webb said something before he ended his interview “Its good to have you back” Read some of this below the Progressives have abosultely no idea about those Working Class Folks Webb calls Scots Irish. How do the Progressives think they will get them to vote for Obama, when they don’t understand Webb relates to them?
From the NYT Article:
Webb’s proponents see him as “a hyper masculine, effortlessly tough, culturally conservative (seeming) candidate who can win back those Reagan Democrats and white males,” Klein later writes. He concludes, “I don’t think the Democratic Party should be orienting itself towards reknitting that particular coalition. I think there are other, more plausible, paths to a majority coalition; paths that are more durable because they aren’t so candidate-specific, and that could create a political model better for progressivism and for broad participation in electoral politics.”
The Dems are screwed, this is the demographic Hillary Clinton is winning and Obama is losing and this guy Klein doesnt’ want their vote, then how do the Dems win in the fall without this huge voting block?
Chanx…LMAO…Fox-Ag or just FAG….too funny!
Ree,
Seeing as I will be having quite a bit of time on my hand in the coming months recuperating from surgury, maybe you can find something on my genealogy, a passion my Aunt shares.
I’m half Mexican and half German. The last name, Inks…(according to my Aunt) was traced to Kaiser Wilhelm. Any ideas on how I can track this down?…Would be much appreciated! Thanks! 🙂
Ree’s link is @ 121
Donald, The Docs most likely will prescribe a little vicodin and percoset, that will help pass the time. Just don’t tell Imus where you live!
Chanx #131…LMAO…no, I won’t tell Imus…OR Rush, either where I live…LOL.
Ree:
“Obama and Webb would be a good fit on the war in Iraq as well as social issues. Soon after the invasion by American troops, Webb wrote in the New York Times: “Visions of cheering throngs welcoming them as liberators have vanished in the wake of a bloody engagement…chaotic guerrilla warfare, replete with hit-and-run ambushes, dead civilians, friendly fire casualties from firefights… a ‘downstream’ payback of animosity and revenge.”
A Starbucks/moonshine cocktail might be just the pickmeup Democrats need this year.”
from Robert Stein Op Ed: “A “Redneck” Running Mate For Obama?”
http://ajliebling.blogspot.com/2008/05/redneck-running-mate-for-obama.html
Joy Behar — Please, just don’t get me started.. ya know, republicans are accused of being self-righteous…are you kidding me?….Joy Behar is one of the many left wing democrats who just absolutely take the cake!
My experience with far left liberals is that they , oh, so care about the world so much, but when it comes to a one on one basis, most of them hate people.
go figure
Stupid Worldpress and the filters catching and holding up links…GRRRRRR.
…other than that, I sure do love this site! 😉
So, are we minus the Iman again for months starting this coming week…or the following week?
Webb doesn’t put up with nonsense, that’s for sure. Web has this more right then wrong. Obama’s crowd will never go for him
I think everyone has added flavor to this site. From Channel and the rest.
We can agree to disagree and no one attacks another. What a relief.
Only thing I have a disagreement with is the “FAG” network. Now that’s a little over the top, don’t you think?
Depends on where the top is, doesn’t it? FOX could add sales/marketing, carriage, programing etc. It could work!
X, I have been hesitant to be negative about the show on this site until your recent comments. ThanX, for that opening.
I for one am starting to believe it is an age issue. His judgement and timing are not what they were in the past.
NewsMax is an advertiser unless I have misread that completely which might exlain that whole deal. Was pretty lame, however.
In any case, I think the show, aside from the occasional great interview, is very weak compared to past years.
Just my thoughts and opinion.
Ski, The last two days were not his best. NewsMax is no different then FOX who is also an advertiser. NewsMax sent one of their premier reporters. This appearance going bad was Imus’ fault, overall lack of preperation.
How was it Imus missed that today was take your pooch to work day?
Ski and Channel,
I do not think anyone is being negative about the Program as a whole.
What I tried to convey in my recent and earlier statement is that there seems to be a great difference in what you hear on RFD’s portion and the Radio portion.
Believe Imus feels at home with a network that is not up against all the others in the market. RFD’s market is very rural. The Toy Jesus Doll thing is really being played out to the point of nausea. One day would have been enough of that. Funny at first. But every hour on the hour we hear Toy Jesus speak.
The other thing that sometimes, but not always, is (Imus’) timing. It’s like there is no direction at times. He flows where his mood takes him. No main theme.
When Imus says Tony has this and Karith has that and then niether of them get on it is because he has spent too much time on tangents that no one including the cast are interested in.
DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND ME. Any Imus program is better than no Imus at all. So something does have to change soon or listeners will be tuning out. NOT ME. But many of those key demographic listeners that pay the bills.
Enough for tonight. Now back to editing Imus programming.
Donald Inks,
We need to get you started with a pedigree chart you can fill in what you know an quiz all the older relatives you have, you would be suprized what they remember, more times then not they have an Obama moment. Now when Obama misremembered his Great Grand Uncle’s service I think that was the right degree of seperation, that would be his mom one of her parents, their parent, and their parent’s sibling that is 4 generations back. Family Oral history gets passed down and who remembers and who is telling the history effects accuracy.
I myself totally understood when Obama straightened the facts out, my husband he was upset, he says to me Obama’s lying about his Uncles Service he is touchy about represenation of military service.
My Great Grandmother was a Shaw and the family history was her grandfather was an immigrant and a stow away. Well no he wasn’t it was her Great Grandfather and going through her Grandfather’s census records 1870,1880, and 1900 his census started with Father foreign born, then Father born Ireland, then the last one Father Born at Sea…well there was our stow away,an old family joke refering to being born on the voyage over, from I am guessing Ireland. Something similar happened with Obama’s story about his Uncle’s service during WWII his point was the effect the War had on his Uncle he went up in the Attic for 6 months and wouldn’t come down…who knows what he saw and was involved in War is Hell. This happens all the time in Family oral historys but you can see they are really important and that is how you start your research just be prepared to find out specifically, later what you think and your relative thinks, what was passed down to you really meant.
I think people have ample reasons to question Obama about many things,I just don’t think this one sharing his family history is one of them.
There are free genealogy sites online and it is fun especially when you get hits..you won’t get any census info after 1930 the census year, gets released every 10 years so in 2010 they will release 1940 the purpose is to protect privacy the life expectency for average American was set at 70 years old the census bureau may have to rework that in the future people are living longer.
Ginger
You and I agree more then we disagree, you are holding in there with the Democrat party and I did for along time there were just to many straws one after the other until they lost me. That section of the article above that person’s attitude about Webb…he is a decorated Military officer and a Senator but he is too masculine to be Vice President? WHO thinks like that? They don’t want to encourage those Dems to vote who do they think gets the Dems elected it is soo elitist this is the behavior that is driving regular Dems out of the party. It used to be the Big Tent Party room for all now you have the far left with the money so they set the agenda for the majority that just doesn’t work for me so I went Independent…I was holding out because of Senators like Lieberman, Biden, I liked Harold Ford Jr., when he was in the House, I was disappointed he turned out to be more of a politician then a statesmen.
ChanX:
Please allow me to clarify one item back to your post #106… your kilted friend will probably tell you he is “a Scot” or “Scotsman”… Scotch is whiskey… 🙂
Donald Inks,
This is a link to where you can download the forms the one you want is titled “Pedigree Chart” you might want to look the other charts over like the “Family Group Sheet” it keeps you focused on which family you are researching at a time get yourself a binder to start. I have one big one 3 inches thick, I call my bible..for quick reference but once you start getting your family history research going, well I use a file cabinet and many, many binders not to mention the computer. There are also free genealogy software, you can download or you can shop and pick one out, I use FTM. This is the Family Search Org online the LDS.

My sister-in-law is a Shaw. Her sister and brother have done extensive genealogy charts going back to when Hector was a pup. Laree, we are soon going to find out that every person posting here is related… lol!
Ree, I’m actually an independent also. I intend to vote democratic this year if Hillary is on the ticket, but that doesn’t look very likely. I’m having to sacrifice some of my values but there are other things I would like to have come about in our country, such as universal health care.. which I realize is a hot issue, and probably won’t ever come about anyway… but at least they are discussing it. I’ll take that for now. If she’s not on the ticket, it’s a write-in or McCain. I haven’t decided yet.
I haven’t listened to the Webb interview yet. I will go back and listen this week-end. I got all bent out of shape with the Jesus doll the past few days and shut I-man off the last three mornings.. LOL
We sorely need a third strong national party.
Excellent point Frec, ThanX. My mind has no doubt been clouded by Islay malt. Apologies to all Scots. Hopefully my friend keeps his sgian dubh in his sock..
Thanks bfor the link Ree! That should keep me busy for a while. 😉
Today Mark Simone on WABC Saturday morning interviewed I-Favs; Buchanan, Alter and Rich. (Assuming Alter is embargoed by NewsWeek.) I-Summer pilot?
Simone just said he will be sitting in for the I-Man Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week!.
