This is interesting.

J Mac is on the attack tonight…
Obama is calling him Bush 8 more years, this is their talking point this isn’t original.
Bob Schieffer is awesome to this point he is getting to the issues.
John McCain I am proud of the people who come to our rallies.
Oh great he brought up the T-Shirts those nasty T-Shirts.
Obama does not repudiate Congressman Lewis statements…
ChannelX,
No he didn’t, check Malkin’s blog she is like a stenographer.
Barack is very smirky tonight..
ChannelX
You and Bill Ayers gave, $230,000.00 to ACORN and you launched your political career from Ayers living room. Who woke up John McCain?
ChannelXRFR,
Obama speaks about special needs children brings up autism ah…he called for the man that was championing that cause to be fired.
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/obama-first-to-call-for-imus-firing-for-racism
McCain: ‘I’m a believer in redemption’
i don’t know who woke him up but he’s hitting all cylinders.
Obama talking about drilling does not mention natural gas
Here is the problem with insisting Imus be fired, and then he turned around when Rev Wright, came out with all those Rants GD America, and We caused 9/11, and our Chickens are coming homn to roost ect… Obama asked, that we remember all his good works. If people can’t see this is hypocrisy, I don’t know how plainer you can make it?
Joe The Plumber is the star of the night!
Joe your rich congratulations..oh good he hit him with spread the wealth.
Senator Government was that a Freudian slip?
The abortion discussion was good. I’m never sure what BHO is saying.
He is saying women first. He won’t define when life starts it is above his pay grade. He doesn’t think anyone has reached a consensus. The Roman Catholic Church has.
MAC did a good job tonight hit all his key issues.
The one thing BHO did was “to ask for you vote” ~ That’s effective.
I still don’t understand the health proposals. I think they made it too complicated. The problem with the Govt. in the first place is bureaucracy, you would want more meat less filling. In health care plan. I do understand how the two plans would effect Joe the Plumber, he is the symbol of small business, you don’t want to put pressure on him and his peers right now….which sag ways into.
I don’t think they addressed the economy as much as I would have expected, especially with the latest dive it has taken. If Joe the Plumber (example) is carrying the American Economy on his shoulders, for goodness sakes lighten his load, and help the man out.
I am saying if the Economy is front and center,
(The most important issue) and it needs help, everything that can drag it down or Joe the Plumber down, needs addressed or eliminated. Don’t put the weight of the world on his shoulders then handicap him with higher taxes ect.. It was a social engineering experiment that got us to this point in the first place. Affordable loans for people who couldn’t afford them. I don’t see more spreading the wealth as the answer. Not if you expect Joe the Plumber to dig us out of our financial hole.
This was a much better debate then the first two in my opinion. I am glad I stayed up. Janet, put our live blog up on her Blog- post, Meet the Real Sarah Palin Blog.
Going into the last 3 weeks J-MAC opened up a number issues including BHO’s relationship with Bill Ayers.
ChannelXRFR
You were right it was Joe the Plumbers night…Joe Sixpack 🙂
Night.
I’m sorry didn’t see his thread open I’ve been on the other page all night. all tough I did learn quite a bit about the Mudds and the Hoggenboomers.
I think that’ the format they should keep. Shiefer was out standing.
I thought they both made points and i think they’re both full of shi*.
As for sacrifice, when I see American Corps saccrifice the bottom and bring manufacturing jobs back to this country the I’ll be ready to expect saccrifices from the american people.
I’ll post some of the fact checks as they come out ike i did for the previous debats

PT you sound like my husband, honestly if Obama had stuck to getting rid of NAFTA, he wouldn’t have shed votes. Even though my husband couldn’t go along after Rev Wrights GD America Rants, it was too much to ask some folks to swallow. My husband thought then, he was wounded beyond repair. Who knows? But that was his attraction, and the theme that worked- GET RID OF NAFTA.

Obama to Plumber: My Plan Will ‘Spread the Wealth Around’
Oct 14, 2008
Barack Obama told a tax-burdened plumber over the weekend that his economic philosophy is to “spread the wealth around” — a comment that may only draw fire from riled-up John McCain supporters who have taken to calling Obama a “socialist” at the Republican’s rallies.
Obama made the remark, caught on camera, after fielding some tough questions from the plumber Sunday in Ohio, where the Democratic candidate canvassed neighborhoods and encouraged residents to vote early.
“Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?” the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed “more and more for fulfilling the American dream.”

The Daily Tracking Poll withing 4 percentage points, this is not tracking after last nights debate.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
Obama does idenitfy as a “Progressive” for some reason people don’t know it isn’t the same thing as a Liberal.
From wikipedia:
Contemporary progressivism
The fourth and current Progressive movement grew out of social activism movements, Naderite and populist left political movements in conjunction with the civil rights, GLBT (Gay rights), women’s or feminist, and environmental movements of the 1960s-1980s.[6] This exists as a cluster of political, activist, and media organizations ranging in outlook from centrism (eg. Reform Party of the United States of America) to left-liberalism to social democracy (like the Green Party) and sometimes even democratic socialism (like the Socialist Party USA).
If you know the definition of a Progressive it makes sense why people are referring to Obama as a Socialist. Where as a Liberal will NOT vote Socialist- The Progressive Will. Above comment.
I myself am a moderate I have a sister who is a Liberal. When the news hit that “Media Matters of America” was monitoring Imus in the Morning. My very Liberal sister was repulsed and made no bones about it. She is Anti Media Monitors, no matter what side of the Political Spectrum they belong to. Why? Our First Amendment.
That is why I made the comment, I think Gov Sarah Palin is a way to separate the Liberals from the Progressives. The Liberals think she is a Gimmick, and the Progressives are threatened by her, Proof- all their ugly smears and attacks.
http://www.democrats.com/obama-i-am-a-progressive
Aside from the fact that she is cute as a button, I think Laura Ingraham is so right on. McCain should get her a leave of absence from her radio show and hire her as Communications Director for a couple weeks.
Check out the pictures of her adopted kid at:
http://lauraingraham.com/site
Damn her lab is an identical copy of ours. I wonder if hers is as dumb as ours is. All the genetics went to his face. Oh well.
I belong to a “word of the day” e-mail list, “Dr. Goodword.” Tdays word…
• maverick •
Pronunciation: mæ-vêr-ik • Hear it!
Part of Speech: Noun
Meaning: 1. A calf or other animal that has left the herd and has not been branded, so that anyone who brands it can claim ownership. 2. A garrulous individualist, an iconoclast who lives by his or her own rules, posing a threat to others.
Notes: Maverick is a maverick word, a garrulous individual with no lexical kin. It may, however, be used ‘as is’ adjectivally, “Buck Shott is a maverick CEO who took a chance no one else would take to produce and market electric ice skates.”
In Play: Although we generally use the term to refer to iconoclasts who pose some sort of threat, we owe a lot to mavericks. Galileo and Charles Darwin were among the scientific mavericks who grandly expanded our understanding of the world. Henry Ford started out as a maverick who revolutionized manufacturing. Those of us who have been around for a while remember Bret (James Garner) and Bart (Jack Kelly) Maverick on the US TV show Maverick, popular in the 1960s or the 1994 movie reprise with Mel Gibson. They were cowboys who lived around the edge of the law, mavericks among the cowboy heroes of the time in their lack of courage.
Word History: The eponym of today’s word is Texas cattleman, Samuel Maverick (1803-1870), who let the calves in his herd roam unbranded. Other ranchers, who initially “adopted” them, referred to them as “Maverick’s” but the term soon migrated into mavericks. An interesting side note: Sam’s grandson, Maury Maverick, coined the word gobbledygook to describe bureaucratic doubletalk. While serving in the U.S. Congress (1935-1939), he explained that he based the word on the sound of turkeys (the flying kind) back in Texas, who were “. . . always gobbledy-gobbling and strutting with ludicrous pomposity.” At the end of this gobble there is, according to Maverick, a sort of “gook”.
I love stuff like this, guess I’m just a word nerd.
Probably my favorite thing ever seen on PBS. The Story of English.

PT,
Check out DeLorean, go ahead google DeLorean and Maverick. What brought him down again? The way he got his funding to manufacture his sports car? The man responsible for the Chevy Vega? That is an old memory, for that alone he should have been indited. I remember those cars, a friend had one, when we were kids, always duct tapping the side view mirror back on, and roping the driver side door closed LOL!
That is who I think of, when I think Maverick, that and the Movie, Back to the Future, One, Two, and Three.

Friend of mine owns a DeLorean. Driving around town he is back to the future, car gets a lot of looks However, the windows don’t roll down, AC is worthless, car is cramped but it is an experience to ride in.
This is a funny look at the CNN/CBS and Times Push Polls, from the People’s cube. Be sure to read the comment, they really stick Frank Luntz of Fox News on how he picks his Poll Groups.

Another link is trapped in the “infamous WordPress” spam filter.
Just as well, the post was too long. 🙂
As Imus might say, “Your homework, boys and girls is a must read article”… entitled: “The $58 Trillion Elephant in the Room
by Jesse Eisinger”, published at Conde Nast Portfolio.com.
If you really want to know why we are in this current financial mess (without politics or other slants)…please do read it. Hopefully, it will never again be allowed to be repeated in the future.

Well, there’s now two links trapped in the “web”. LOL
Just read this:

Chanx, and all readers of this fine site:
Apologies in advance. I have three links to the same article trapped in the spam filter…so ChanX…when they get through…a little deletion of a couple would be appreciated.
I’ll do this the hard way…LOL…
Google: “The 58 Trillion In The Room”.
Then read the article written by by Jesse Eisinger, Published by Conde Nast Portfolio.com.
Thanks…and in advance (again) please forgive all the multible posts to this article in advance. 🙂
Skiwolf, I agree…I acutally think Laura Ingraham should be running McCain’s campaign.
I love the way Laura stands up for Sarah Palin. You might not agree with me on Sarah, Ski, but I think Sarah is the real deal. I get sick of all of the intellectuality out there. You know, the people who are so well read but don’t know beans about living.
People like me “get” Sarah Palin. She speaks clearly and to the point. She doesn’t embellish her thoughts with flowers and spinning rhetoric. There are a lot of us out here who understand Sarah Palin. Call us rednecks, idiots, right wing nuts, whatever….Sarah Palin cuts through the bs, and the people either hate her or love her for it.
I think we got it, Donald. Did you mean this? 🙂

Is Joe the plumber everything he is cracked up to be? He has tax liens on his home, is not a licensed plumber, really doesnt have a plan to buy the 2-man business he works for and is not registered to vote.
Suspect Joe’s 15 minutes will soon be over..
Been waiting for that shoe to drop X. Surprised it took so long.
Just another blowhard, albeit one who served his purpose.
ChannelX,
Joe is a registered Republican in Ohio, someone was having trouble with the way his last name is spelled, to find him on the registration Voter rolls he did vote in the Primary. Which also points to the voting verification problems in Ohio. Hot Air put up a post on Joe The Plumber.
This was left on Imus Truth, and I think it makes a good sense.
email McCain and ask why he and Palin won’t go on O’Reilly and/or Imus?!

Joe Sixpack er Plumber
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/Joes_registration.html
I also heard he likes mayonnaise on his french fries. Once again the McCain Vetting team at their Finest. And to think they were going to offer him Assistant Deputy Secretary of Plumbingocityness. Next you know they’ll offer a former lobbyist for Saddam Hussein The position of chief of the transition team.
Oh come on now PT, he can see Canada from his front yard. How bad can he be?
Back of the envelope;
To clear $250K the plumbing business would need to employ between 6 to 10 employees and have revenues in the neighborhood of $1.2M.
Come to think of it 6 to 10 employees would fit most peoples idea of a small business.
#42..
Chanx:
“Say it ain’t so, Joe!”
You can’t make it up people…lol.
Chanx…sorry for the repetitive posts to the last link of mine. Worpress spam filter is a bit twitchy as of late.
I like Steve, he must know this is Imus’s schtick ? It is what he does. Example his introductions of Monica Crowley, then he makes Charles apologize. Perhaps this is a tempest in a teapot? I hope Michael Graham is still going to appear.
http://www.bostonherald.com/business/media/view/2008_10_16_%E2%80%98Rude__Don_Imus_too_much_for_Jay_Severin:_Boston_Common_executive_editor_Terri_Stanley_out_the_door/srvc=home&position=2
Ree,
That boat has already sailed. I don’t want him on Imus, it goes beyond Senator Johnny come McLately by now. It’s really a shame how low he sunk just to become president. What I wouldn’t give to have the McCain of 2000 back or even the McCain of April 07. I didn’t always agree with him but I always trusted him. Now he’s just another Neo-con Rovian Zombie and not even a good one. I’ll be glad if he loses, not for my sake but for his. The Maverick is dead, long live the Maverick.
On to more important things…
Really love your new Avatar, I guess it answers question we’ve all been wondering, “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” Just kidding (please don’t drop a house on me (i can’t afford the mortgage)) Seriously, Billie Burke, (Click | Here) way cool.
A plumber’s snake: Excellent for those ‘hard to reach’ places.
Joe Wurzelbacher an Air Force veteran is registered to vote. He has been employed by the Newell Plumbing & Heating Co. for over six years. He owns a home located in Holland OH. Wurzelbacher purchased the home for $127,281 and obtained financing from the FHA. Joe’s business objective is to one day own Newell Plumbing & Heating Co.
He is recently divorced and has a 13 year old son who lives with him.
Joe was found guilty of speeding (Fairbanks AK)(74/55) in August 1993. He’s had some hard financial times going back to 11/2000; Montgomery Ward, Keating Ave Apartments Mesa AZ, State of Ohio and St Charles Mercy Hospital have all place tax liens against at one time or another.
He’s not running for public office, he’s just another American Joe with an opinion.
PT,
McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden, are all running for President of the U.S.A. . Why not come on Imus in the Morning? I see that as a ratings bump for Imus.
Jay Severin, not happy because Imus won’t go along with his conservative narrative, does he need Imus to agree with him? That is the whole point of Imus, you don’t get just one side. I am sure the choir music is lovely, sometimes I like to hear a different beat.
Oh and thank you, for not asking me where I keep my broom 😉
Wow it’s a shame we can know that much about him in 12 hours (give or take). So much for the constitutionally inherent right to privacy.
This was inevitable. I said to my wife last night during the debate, just wait, this guy is toast. Sad. The media does love to play the “gotcha” game. It’s what they do.
Personally…I thinks Imus as of late is coming across as a “bitter old man” and he still hasn’t come to grips that he isn’t where he used to be…”influentially” speaking of course.
It is kind of sad to listen to the show “devolve” slowly into where it is now. I surely can’t stand what has happened to him…and I haven’t a clue as to who is still “whispering in his ear” that his influence hasn’t gone down so much…but they need to stop it.
He truly needs to “Re-Boot” the show…and cut some “dead weight”…and restructure.
I said before, and I believe Chanx agreed…RFD is the main culprit “holding him back”. It really isn’t a suitable television outlet for who he is, and where he really wants to be.
I’m sorry to write this, but It’s been on my mind a lot as of late.
One suggestion…get rid of Karith, keep Tony, and bring back Larry Kenny (what the hell happened there?)…and get a video link to Bernie and Lou. However, I don’t see that happening as long as he is on RFD.
Just my own thoughts, and opinion.
Donald, I actually really like that magazine. Think it’s great and a breath of fresh air in the biz world. Funny because we first got a subscription due to a free comp to our son who was 16 at the time. Now we have to pay. Oh well.
This is regarding ahem, posts 38,39,40 and 50. 🙂
Donald Inks, Remember the Movie,Talledaga Nights, Ricky Bobby dialog. They are in the hospital and Ricky Bobby, is about to stab himself in the leg with a knife, his best friend says: Tuff love it is then 🙂
This is the onion, skirting way too close to reality for anyones comfort.
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/16/video-the-idgit-vote/
Ree,
OK i admit it, no reason except I’m pi$$ed at him and his campaign. How many times has Bernie called his campaign and bee told “he’s too busy.” Its too late now. It reeks of desperation, and Imus don’t need it. Imus talks about McCain’s loyalty? Well Imus was just as loyal.
As for Severin?
Does he sound like a whiny panty waste in this article (Click | Here) article or what?
LOL…
“This is regarding ahem, posts 38,39,40 and 50.”
Guilty as charged. I do apologize, again. 🙂
PT – I heard that show actually and did think Imus was a bit over the top. Wasn’t really all that funny either. I mean the line about playing chess. These people, after all, do make an effort to be on. That said, I do agree Severin came off as a whinny panty waste. What he should have done is called Imus some horrible names and moved on.
Ree,
LOL…after watching that video, all I can say is this:
We seriously need to improve our education systems…LOL.
To be fair, though, I would bet there are many people in our own age groups that are just as clueless. 😉
laree
Imus doesn’t have to agree with all his guests, but at least show some common decency to someone who has been with him for a long time. jmo
Donald, I could not agree more. The show is OK, but just OK.
Frankly, and we will all get there, I think Imus is beginning to show his age. His concentration and attention to the show seems to be kind of shot. There are some notable exceptions to that of course, but not that many.
I’m hopeful that Tony and Karith had one year contracts and that Karith will be gone come December. I like Tony. Karith is every finger nail in the world running over a blackboard.
Imus is so much better when RFD ends programming @ 9 ET, its scary. Can you imagine what Imus would have done for the FOX Business Network? His interviews with Neil Cavuto, Alexis Glick and Charles Payne are awesome. Imus with a business current events program would have been awesome!
“Credit Derivatives” are just plain insane. Imaging being able to buy insurance on something you don’t own or have an interest in. Casino nights, pure gambling!
I’ve been updating #53…
P.T.
As someone who voted for John McCain (here in Michigan, where he BEAT Bush) in the 2000 primaries, when the Karl Rove team slimmed him to no mercy, I also feel bad for him.
I respect the man, and his principals. But letting the miscreants running his campaign ruin him as they have is inexcusable. So many bad “handlers”…and “advisers”.
I hesitate to write this, but will: McCain’s’ time WAS in 2000 and he was destroyed by despicable people. I truly believe his time has come…and is now gone.

GALLUP SHOCK: 49 OBAMA, 47 MCCAIN WITH LIKELY VOTERS
http://www.drudgereport.com/
Early on Imus guests took a lot of heat for going on the program. Mike Huckabee was one of those guests who went right back. For some unkown reason Imus turned on him and did not let up, even after Huck left the prez race. J-MAC might be right in avoiding the show.
Investors Business Daily publishes the IBD/TIPP Poll. This “LIKELY VOTERS TRACKING” poll has the election as
Overall Obama 45% McCain 42% Undecided 13%.
But there are some interesting numbers underneath all this.
Ages 18-24 Obama 65% McCain 32% Undecided 3%
Ages 65+ Obama 32% McCain 45% Undecided 23%
ChanX Analysis
The least like to vote 18-24 have overwhelmingly moved to Obama. The most likely to vote are still open as to who they will vote for. There remains a lot of room for McCain to move here.

Thanks for nothing PT. Now I have to stay up emailing that to everyone I know. LOL —- good stuff and too funny. Thanks.
There is no age that is too old BTW. Unless you’re dead of course. That would be too old. 🙂
PT – I need your help since you have a good sense of humor.
I need to inform Helen Hunt that I am changing my “fantasy girl friend” from her to Laura Ingraham.
Can you write the letter and post it here for me. That way I can forward it and break the bad news to Hunt and the good news to Ingraham.
Thanks.
PS – Ingraham was just brilliant on O’Reilly. You should have seen her rolling her eyes at him. Very funny stuff.
Apparently on the subject of Imus In the Morning no one understands what he is doing.
If the awful B.H.O. is elected and brings back the fairness Doctrine Imus is immune. He is playing both sides of the fence.
The show is not the same. But Imus has a plan and it will work.
I never give up on Imus no matter who says what about him and his crew.
This makes me want to VOMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too, bad Imus is still beating himself up about something that happened OVER A YEAR ago…………
I thought Laura Ingraham was terrific on O’Reilly. It’s hard to get in a word edgewise with O’Reilly, but she fought him tooth and nail and she is so lovable!
Did anyone see McCain on Letterman? If not, you can see it at the Letterman website at cbs.com. I was a little worried about it but I thought it went well.
McCain was great at the “roast” also..very funny.. Obama was good too but he was pretty much reading it all, but still the writing was very funny…some comic relief..nice.
I’m not so sure it would be wise for McCain to go on Imus at this point in time, especially with Imus’ animosity toward Palin.
Ginger,
I watched the Alfred E Smith Dinner last night, and both candidates were funny. It was a welcome relief, they both got off really good one liners I liked Obama’s lines about his middle name, and his Russian tea room. McCain set him up toward the end of his speech, built him up, told everyone, this next 15 minutes will be hilarious – re Obama routine. It reminded me of what Military folks do to each other in the Military. There is a certain amount of good natured hazing that goes on. McCain was treating Obama as his equal.
I don’t watch NBC or Letterman, this goes back to GE’s problems this network is albatross around their neck now.
I was listening to Donald Trump on Gov Sarah Palin, and I didn’t hear Imus chiming in with anything negative.
I really think Huckabee, Romney, all of them should go back on IITM, they know how Imus works insult comedy. (Senator Dodd came back on, and he had staff that thought what Imus said on air about Dodd, precluded Dodd appearing-BUT Dodd gets Imus) That is why I don’t get Jay Severin, when Imus said he was playing computer chess, he probably was. My husband plays computer chess all the time, the game that comes with Win Vista. He loves to beat the computer. I am sure we were not privy to what they were saying to each other, when they were not on air so who knows how that discussion was going? Severin needling Imus, and Imus gave him a kick when they got back on air? Both these people have been in radio for a long while. I don’t think people watching and listening get some of this is all about personas. I do like Steve 😉 and when it came to people being loyal to Imus, he was one of the radio folks, who stood up for Imus and Bernie. In fact all the Boston folks were loyal, when It wasn’t popular.
Ginger
McCain tries to make Peace with Letterman.
The Alfred E Smith Dinner is one of my favorite political Events each year I mean where else do you get a chance to see Rudy Giuliani in drag. I mean other than Times Square at three in the morning. Here are links to both Senators McCain’s and Obama’s speeches. It seems appropriate that i use The FOX feed for McCain and the MESSNBC feed for the Messiah.
Some things to watch for. Look how much fun Obama McCain and the Cardinal are having. Obama atone point looks like he’s going to bury his head in the cardinal’s shoulder he’s laughing so hard. Another one clearly enjoying herself is Hillary. I swear there is one point during McCain’s speech that it looks like Hillary is going to wet her self.

Hey X, for your daily dose of humor check out the 2:28am post on ImusTruth. Pretty funny.
LOL PT. Thanks much. That’s all I need. I thought both were great last night although I think McCain was more natural at it.
If last night was “Last Comic Standing”. IMO Barack did get a few good ones off. However J-MAC was more consistent over the half hour and would have been the walk away winner.
Barack’s Wall Street jokes went flat with last nights audience. Wall Street isn’t just about big money men. There really is nothing funny when you’re in the process of laying off the secratary from Queens or the clerk admin from Jersey City or the data center operator from Brooklyn, the software programer from Long Island and so on.
Ski…
Are you referring to this particular post at Imustruth?

Hey…message to Bruce:
If you have something to say about (or TO) ME post it here. Otherwise, shut your ignorant mouth. Come on, you can do it…you little gut sucking weasel. 😉
Well, Don…that might have been a little strong…don’t you think? 🙂
The Alfred E Smith Dinner last night proved one thing to me….
….John McCain needs to be John McCain, not what his “handlers” and “advisers” are pushing him towards.
It was, indeed, good to see them both do their shtick, and laugh together. Made me feel good inside.
Yup that’s the one. And no I don’t think that’s too strong. If the shoe fits……..
Too funny.

On the one hand Bruce Campbell is sticking his finger in the eye of MSNBC (All Obama Network, All Day, Every Day) so whats not to like, on the other hand, what I like about the I Nation, we are all over the board politically, when it comes to the candidates. We’ve got all the bases covered. In person, I envision us all on the ground, like a wwe smackdown arguing about this election…and that is how it should be, we are after all I Fans.

I see someone is impersonating me again on Imus Truth. That wasn’t me Skiwolf.
My attacks are at those on that site. Not people here.
There are so many irreverent posts on Imus Truth you don’t know who is who.
Ree,
I agree. So if you see go for the metal folding chair be
afraid. Be very afraid.
Sorry Bruce…but that post sure sounded like something you would write…misspellings included.
If I’m wrong, I apologize. 😉

Star of, Army of Darkness, what more inspiration can one man contribute! I love that line from Army of Darkness “hail to the king baby”
PT, Okay but you know the scissors move, you will be slapping the canvas, and gasping for air LOL.
Ree:
That Bruce Campbell video was hilarious. The people that made the movies (Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and The Army Of Darkness) all came from my neck of the woods here in Michigan.
I wish Bruce Campbell would get another “sequel” together and “Halloween” is the best time to watch ’em! 🙂
My favorite quote from Army Of Darkness…
“That’s right. Who’s laughing now?” 🙂
Always Entertaining 😉
Donald,
It wasn’t me I do promise. And generally I do not have misspellings.
I do miss other things, but not spelling.
My apologies to all who really believe that was me.
Lehman Is Focus of Three U.S. Grand Jury Probes; 12 Subpoenas
By Linda Sandler and Christopher Scinta
Oct. 17 (Bloomberg) –” Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., which last month filed the largest bankruptcy in history, is the subject of three federal criminal probes and at least 12 subpoenas, according to a lawyer for the failed bank.”
“We are facing three grand jury investigations,” said lead Lehman bankruptcy lawyer Harvey Miller yesterday in Manhattan federal court. The probes, launched by the New York U.S. attorneys in Brooklyn and Manhattan as well as in Newark, New Jersey, are focusing in part on Lehman’s role in the $330 billion auction rate securities market and possible crimes associated with the New York-based bank’s $6 billion June stock issue, according to a person familiar with the case.Lehman sought bankruptcy protection on Sept. 15 with debt of $613 billion. Its demise helped accelerate a global credit crisis that wiped out $30 trillion of equity value in the past year.”
“Triggered by bankruptcies or stock losses linked to the financial collapse, the U.S. has begun investigations of mortgage lending, securitization and failed banks including Lehman. Nationally, the FBI is looking into 26 firms, including American International Group Inc., a senior law-enforcement official said.”

FINALLY.
I’m getting to start to feel good about this fiasco. They should be serious about prosecuting what these charlatans have created this financial “pyramid scheme”.
…and thank you Warren Buffet for putting your money where your mouth is…and speaking the truth.

Ohio Democrats Win at Top U.S. Court in Voting Fight (Update2)
By Greg Stohr
Oct. 17 (Bloomberg) — The U.S. Supreme Court, siding with Democrats, freed Ohio officials from a lower court order that might have limited participation by new voters in next month’s presidential election.

I, too, thoroughly enjoyed the Alfred E. Smith dinner last night. Thank you, Rachel Maddow. Otherwise, I would not have seen any of it until today. It made my evening and reminded me that there was a time I liked Sen. McCain. I got this funny mental picture of each of their respective admirers beating each other to pulps outside while they sat and enjoyed a meal together. A brief return to civility.

I’ll tell ya my wife and I are among those that actually pay taxes in support of the 30% who all ready don’t. I’ll be damned if we’re going to redistribute more of our income that we earned. What we’ll do is cheat like hell. I feel a little civil disobedience coming on.
I mean Obama is one thing. But can anyone imagine an unfettered Dumbo Pelosi and Reid. Those two are beyond stupid.
Unfortunately Ski that’s where the country is headed and it may take a decade or more to reverse course! It’s not entirely unfettered since Pelosi and Reid still need to deal with “Blue Dog Democrats” along with centrists who when aligned with Republicans tend to keep the lefties in check.
Keep reminding myself that the Republicans did this to themselves by overspending and overreaching and now they will pay the price.
I agree about the paying taxes. Here is the thing, I don’t think Americans, have any problem paying taxes, when they see the results, for our infrastructure. We need schools, police and fire depts., roads & bridges ect.. funded. I don’t need to pay for any group to register voters, I don’t care what political party that group represents or none. IF you are a not for profit, you don’t deserve my tax payer dollars. I believe in a social safety net for the REALLY vulnerable. I don’t believe in wealth redistribution. A hand out is not a hand up. Where is the incentive for bettering a person’s life, when you make a person dependent, on an over reaching Mommy Government, to solve all the ills of the world? That same Mommy Governments approval rating 9% that tells me they aren’t even good at the appearance of solving the worlds ills…bureaucrats are good at shuffling and moving things around (your taxes) they don’t produce anything.
Hillary Clinton received the White Blue Collar Vote in the Primary. Obama/Biden are attacking “Joe The Plumber” A Voter, how is this going to help them attract the White Blue Collar Vote? How dumb is it to Attack a Private Citizen a Voter? They don’t think that demographic is watching, and paying attention to this behavior, Obama’s leftest Media Proxys attacking a Private Citizen? Again Obama not DENOUNCING very bad behavior by his supporters. I still have not forgotten that nasty t-shirt that John McCain brought up at the last debate. Barack Obama’s lack of willingness to school the worse of these supporters is telling. The silence on this topic from the Obama Campaign is deafening, they don’t think people-voters, this close to the election are noticing- the Nasty treatment of Sarah Palin a sitting Governor, and Joe a Blue Collar Working Class private citizen.
Here is some good news,
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/18/aq-giving-404s-to-online-users/
Ree, Back to the IBD/TIPP poll (#71) these are the voters in play.
Ages 65+ Obama 32% McCain 45% Undecided 23%
Attacking average Joes while touting government handouts works against Obama and favors J-MAC with this demographic. BTW: Seniors are the most likely to vote!
ChannelX,
We are not the only ones picking up on this, Biden was chosen to attract the White Blue Collar Vote. How is attacking an example of this demographic – Joe the Plumber supposed to attract more like him, to vote for them? They- Obama/Biden, really don’t think this demographic is the stupid hayseed, rednecks, hicks ect.. the MSM portrays them?
This is who Obama/Biden need to win and they are attacking a Private American Citizen for asking Obama about taxes. Joe the Plumber is an example of White Blue Collar Voters. I don’t see how attacking him in the Media is going to result in more votes for Obama from this demographic? Obama was in Joe’s neighborhood campaigning. Joe didn’t go to Chicago to find Obama and ask him questions.
http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/trailmix/2008/10/video-trail-mix-obamas-white-b.html
Not delivering the White Blue Collar Vote but Alienating it instead…isn’t this what they call counter productive?
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/10/17/joe-biden-no-friend-of-the-working-man/
Ree, I don’t think Imus wanted to “go there” with Donald Trump regarding Sarah Palin.
And yeah, attacking Joe the plumber is not very wise on Obama/Biden and the Obama media’s part. Ya know, Joe the plumber and Sarah Palin ARE most of US out here. Obama just doesn’t get it does he?
Well, I might be drinking wine and eating crow on
November 5, the day after, but I’m predicting a McCain win in a landslide. Remember post 113 in this thread and you can lash me with a bowl of wet noodles for being wrong if you want.. but that’s just my gut feeling.
You can listen to Monica Crowley and John McCain on 77WABC right now.
I don’t get it John McCain can be booked on Monica Crowley who appears on Imus in the Morning but John McCain and Sarah Palin won’t go on Imus in the Morning? Below link will let you stream live.
http://www.wabcradio.com/
Just a (second) thought….
…after re-listening to the Imus interview with Dick Gregory this past week…
If you didn’t watch (or listen), the last minute of that interview was the most profound thing I ever heard regarding Bill Ayers…and after re-listening to that conversation, and Imus saying that it was an “inconvenient truth” gave me quite a bit to ponder. And to seriously ask, even myself, some hard questions…
It was, indeed, an “inconvenient truth”.
http://www.wabcradio.com/Article.asp?id=940443&spid=22807
Donaldinks, I just listened to the Dick Gregory interview, and Dick Gregory had a point about the University of Illinois, and I ask the question myself, why was Ayers ever hired by them because by doing so they validated him.
X, regarding post 107, I think “Blue Dog Dems” are pretty much a thing of the past. Not too many left at this point. Believe Pelosi and Reid will have a field day. And, we’ll get to pay for it.
Oh well I always wanted to work until I was 80 anyhow. Been a life long dream. Now that I’ll get to pay taxes for 45% of the country instead of just 30%. Maybe I’ll have em all over for a little cookout in the backyard.
skiwolf
The Blue Dog Democrats number over 75 in the House, Nancy Pelosi couldn’t get them all to vote for that -First Bail Out Bill. They really want to keep their seats in Congress, and their constituents will Vote them out.
skiwolf
This numbers them at 49 when the bail out bill was being voted on the number 75 was batted around for the blue dog democrats. When the Democrats added seats in Nov 2006 it was mostly Blue Dog Democrats. They get ignored a lot, they are growing.
http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/politics/2008/06/13/blue-dog-democrats-find-more-political-muscle.html
Good. 25 of 47 voted for the bailout. To quote Boehner from your article, “all bark and no bite”. But, the good news is that these are seats Republicans can easily win back. Then perhaps we can get numb nuts out of the Speakers Seat and return some balance to the government. Assuming the worst case happens which I think it will.
skiwolf
If this country is so skrewed up it votes in all Progressive Leadership, it deserves at least 2 more years of incompetent bureaucrats. I don’t see the Socialist pulling it off but this is America, I suppose anything is possible. This country identifies as a religious country. Socialist are anti religion, right there they are at opposites. There are around 300 Million folks in the U.S. I forget what the eligible Voting public is something like 187 Million? And all those don’t Vote. That isn’t counting ACORN’S folks, who Vote Early and Often, BIG GRIN.
I agree with “one thing” Dick Gregory said, this election has to be won by a wide margin, no squeaker. James Carville sounded a similar warning. The MSM is thinks it will suppress the Independent turn out for McCain by banging the Obama, has already won drum. If those folks have not made up their minds already, they are not watching and listening to network and cable news pundits. This is over reaching by the Biased Liberal Media. I think they are puffing up Barack Obama’s odds, and that is irresponsible because if he loses or squeaks by it isn’t going to be pretty.
Dick Gregory sees everything through a narrowed view, and Imus lets him get away with shallow generalizations, that could easily by knocked down. Nooses and Battered Women’s shelters. There are segments of society that believe hitting a woman is acceptable (doesn’t matter what shape the economy is in) In Lewisville, Texas, there is a man on the run for Honor Killings- his daughters. He thought that was acceptable because of his culture. He didn’t kill them because of the economy. The Noose started showing back up after a Huge Summer Movie, titled “Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End” Lots of kids went to that movie. The beginning of the Movie starts with multiple hangings, lots of nooses, reintroduced to the American Public. Many of those kids, have no clue what the history of the Noose is in African American History. Not everyone is looking at the world through African American Centric Eyes. Dick Gregory is entertaining, I thought his swipe at John McCain’s time as a P.O.W. was more then petty. John McCain, was a high ranking Officers son, of course he was a Prize for the enemy, that alone kept him alive. Imus didn’t point any of this out to Dick Gregory, he just let him go unchallenged. I think of Dick Gregory as an equal, the man is sharp, he shouldn’t come on, and go unchallenged. Yes I was taught to respect my elders. That has nothing to do with having a back and forth conversation, an exchange of ideas. Challenging Dick Gregory, on some of his Pronouncements, is not disrespectful. Maybe for fair and balanced Imus should have on Little Richard.
I hope Pelosi chokes on her botox or better yet ends up looking like Joan Rivers.
LOL — did I really post that. I seem to have anger problems this morning. Think I’ll take the dog for a walk.
The ranks of “Blue Dogs” will most likely increase this election cylce. In historical republican districts voters will vote for a conservative democrat over a republican in a “throw the bums out moment”.
Question:
Your reaction to what General Colin Powell expressed this morning…and his endorsement of Barack Obama.
Interested in your thoughts on the issues he brought up, and his decision.
Ree, I agree with you regarding Dick Gregory’s small and insensitive remark diminishing John McCain’s status as a hero..in effect, just because he spent 5 years in the Hanoi Hotel doesn’t mean he is a hero..and Imus never defended McCain whom he has been placing upon a pedestal and extolling for years until the moment that the Imus influence could be crucial.
Dick Gregory is very funny and insightful and I always enjoy the interviews he has with Imus but Imus has turned over a new leaf, for better or worse.
Donaldinks, take it as you will, but my first reaction regarding Colin Powell is that race trumps party.
Thank you Ginger.
You just “slimmed” one of the most respected, honored and beloved Generals to most Americans, and our serving military.
I told my wife right after he made his decision that this would happen. I was hoping I was wrong. Unfortunately, I was correct.
To some people, it all boils down to race, not an honest assessment of the choices we have for the next President to deal with, and lead us in these times.
I suppose, next, that Collin Powell will be put into the same category of a comedian such as Dick Gregory.
Personally, Collin Powell put country first in all his career. Not “race” triumphing .
One last thought, and I’ll turn this over towards futher discussion by all others:
To anyone else that believes that Colin Powell would put “race” before his Country, needs to do some serious inner reflection. Most won’t, because they will not venture there…and already know what lies beneath.
We all need to continuously do inner reflection, Donaldinks. No one is exempt. I just gave you my first reaction, and I knew how you would take it.
Donald Inks,
Colin Powell is free to endorse whoever he wishes. He is an American Citizen but he is not beyond being questioned, over his endorsement (He is a Public Figure). Gen Powell, has the right to endorse whoever he wishes, and everyone is free to interpret his reasons for his endorsement. I already stated on Imus Times. I believe his endorsement was Political and Self Serving. Inside the Army, Powell is known as being Political..you have to be, to get where he did (RANK) and survive. The U.S. Army is not for the timid or the squeamish. I am talking career soldiers now, not the folks that go in and serve, and go back to Civilian life. Powell has already gone on record saying, he doesn’t like what he hears, has been said about Obama, concerning his color. I don’t think that makes Powell a racist, probably something closer to a realist. BUT Powell a Moderate Republican, is no where near Obama a Progressive Democrat, in their respective Political Ideologies. Powell was Secretary of State, he was sitting in the life guard chair- high up, he could see further out our “Foreign Policies” then the average American Public on the ground. Perhaps Powell sees an advantage, I don’t with my limited view. It isn’t like the MSM is assisting us, the American Public, with unbiased coverage.
Sorry, Imus Truth not Imus Times. I have got to get on my front display for Halloween up. The neighbors are ahead of us, and I don’t want us to be the only ones, not lit up.
Collin Powell is a historic figure having risen to the highest level of military command and subsequent service as Secretary of State. He is one of many who blazed the trail for an Obama presidential candidacy.
Colin Powell’s endorsement is certainly interesting but other then grabbing headlines for one or two news cycles what does it really mean? Colin Powell is respected but has no following or constituency in the sense that he can deliver votes to Obama.
The most critical voter segment at this point is 65+, I don’t see Colin Powel’s endoresemnt significantly impacting these voters.
Regarding race if you go back to the IBD/TIPP Poll (#71):
Race
Black/Hispanics: Obama 74% McCain 11% Undecided 14%
Suspect if one were to back out the Hispanic voters Obama’s percentage with black voters would be much higher. What factor or weighting Obama’s race played in Colin Powell’s endorsement, we’ll probably never know.
Just noticed Black voters were broken out in the IBD/TIPP results (#71):
Black Obama 81% McCain 3% Undecided 16%
Perhaps race is playing a role in this election.
Ginger,
I have been giving some thought to why McCain nor Palin, are appearing on the Imus In the Morning. It would make since that McCain knows, if he goes on, Imus will be targeted again…the last time CNN was monitoring him, and tried to nail him with Pac Man Jones sound byte. It is entirely possible that McCain is shielding Imus, from further targeting by the Media Monitors, leaving him out of the loop. On the other hand, I think Imus is up for heat, he would take if McCain or Palin comes on, and Obama and Biden “won’t” They the MSM might retaliate against Imus again. It just didn’t make any sense to me, why they wouldn’t appear on IITM, the audience both Campaigns need, the Rural Vote is part of Imus’s RFD TV audience, it is huge. John McCain is loyal, I think if he wins or loses, he has decided not to sacrifice Imus, who has his charities to think of among them advocacy for Autistic Children. The McCains care about folks, Cindy McCain, is very involved all over the world in children, and other issues. This is the only way that it makes any sense to me.
Donald,
The disappointment to me in Colin Powell, obviously a man of great distinction, is that he has never decided one way or another what he wanted to be.
He has always stayed on the top of the fence and played it safe. I was not encouraged or discouraged by his endorsement. Don’t think it will matter one way or another.
As incredibly intelligent and well spoken as he is, Powell has never decided what he wants to be and that is the problem.
IMO, those that claim “race trumps party” are part of the race problem. I do not believe that is the case in this situation. Sadly, most people can’t separate things into different buckets.
Ski, as for separating into different buckets, the same could be said of those who accuse folks as racists who don’t support Obama.
We are all racists to a certain extent. Some won’t admit it, others will.. some need to search their hearts and work on it more than others. I know that I do. This goes for both sides or all sides. We are all guilty, some more, some less.
I have the upmost respect for Colin Powell. I can see where he views this as extraordinary and historic. It’s just that his political ideology must be 360 degrees from Obama’s. This is what I’m not understanding.
Ree — your theory about McCain/Imus may be correct.
I would personally like to thank all that have commented on my original post (124).
Curiosity on where people would “go to” on Collin Powell’s endorsement was my main line of thinking on this subject, and making people think…instead of “knee-jerk” reactions .
My basic premise was this:
At what point, and why, would people sully (or not) a well respected 4 Star General’s decision to endorse Obama…and their basic reasoning for it.
I have learned a lot from this. I would like to say I am comforted by some of the responses…that being said:
…what if Collin Powell was a pure Caucasian, and THEN what would have been the response?
I believe Skiworlf came the closest to what “lies beneath” in his post 131:
“IMO, those that claim “race trumps party” are part of the race problem. I do not believe that is the case in this situation. Sadly, most people can’t separate things into different buckets.”
Forget “party”. This man dedicated his life to serve, protect and fight for the very ideas and principals this country was founded upon.
Going a step further, if you would question the character of an honorable person as Collin Powell for his decision…what is left?
Thank you for your input, and your opinions.
🙂
Last comment on this subject:
The very premise of what I told my wife, that there are people so blinded by predjudice and hatred, that Collin Powell, of all people, would be the subject of this:
I.E. (from another blog site):
Hello all,
Back from a weekend up north. Beautiful weekend. The lake in fall is fantastic. Anyway, I’m OUTRAGED, but not surprised, by the treasonous move of Colin Powell this morning. Any shred of credibility he had left in my eyes has now gone. By endorsing Hussein Obama, he has abandoned his party and his country. Why? Because for Powell, race trumps country. It’s now more important to be black than to be an American. Thanks General!
Posted by: DTT | Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 05:29 PM
This…is what I told my wife, that would happen…and is happening.
That is pretty damn sad, for “reasonable” people of education and common civility…yet: it still exists, even today in our great Country.
Donald,
Please do not quote that creature on this site. His very words and spirit do not bear repeating in any forum. Let the insane rest where they are. No need to invite that kind worthless being. Please do not do that. Thanks.
Ski:
Point well taken. I apologize. Won’t ever happen again.
When dividing up Gen Colin Powell Ret., into buckets 🙂 My first thought was Army Officer, General, Vietnam Veteran. My mind went first to how Powell is perceived by his peers. Army Folks the career folks, don’t believe in airing things out in the Media. I will find it very unusual if another well known Military Service Person, says anything more then, I am disappointed he didn’t endorse John McCain, a fellow Veteran. I do not believe you will hear a Military Service Person of much stature saying “I am disappointed he endorsed Barack Obama” that is separate if you compare. Military Folks are tight. These highly visible Military folks, have reputations inside the services, for example General Powell, is known to be a Politician, in and out of the Army. Colin Powell isn’t a Saint, many were unhappy with how he handled Somalia. P.R. wise, it was a nightmare, he pulled the Army Rangers out, turned out that Osama Bin Ladin, was behind Mogadishu “Black Hawk Down”
When dividing up your “sentences” into “buckets” I have no idea what you are trying to say.

This is in response to Donald Inks question, how did I react to Colin Powell endorsing Barack Obama.
My first thought, wasn’t to separate anything into buckets.
By Elisabeth Bumiller
Updated WASHINGTON—Former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell endorsed Senator Barack Obama for president on Sunday morning as a candidate who was reaching out in a “more diverse and inclusive way across our society” and offering a “calm, patient, intellectual, steady approach” to the nation’s problems.
The endorsement, on the NBC public affairs program “Meet the Press,” was a major blow to Senator John McCain, who has been a good friend of Mr. Powell for decades. Mr. Powell, a Republican, has advised Mr. McCain in the past on foreign policy.
Mr. Powell told reporters after the taping of “Meet the Press” that he had been disturbed in recent weeks by the negative tone of Mr. McCain’s campaign, particularly its focus on Mr. Obama’s passing relationship with William Ayers, a 1960s radical and founder of the Weather Underground. The McCain campaign has sought to promote the idea that Mr. Obama is “palling around with terrorists,” in the words of Mr. McCain’s running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, because of Mr. Obama’s weak links to Mr. Ayers.
“I thought that was over the top,” Mr. Powell told reporters. “It was beyond just good political fighting back and forth.”Mr. Powell did offer Mr. McCain a small dose of solace by calling him a different kind of Republican, although one who would support the party’s standard positions.
“As gifted as he is, he is essentially going to execute the Republican agenda, the orthodoxy of the Republican agenda, with a new face and a maverick approach to it, and he’d be quite good at it,” Mr. Powell said. “But I think we need a generational change.”
(snipped)
Mr. McCain was asked about Mr. Powell’s endorsement during an interview on Fox News Sunday.
“I have always admired and respected General Powell,” Mr. McCain said. “We have a respectful disagreement.”
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/19/powell-endorses-obama/#comments
Quote:
“McCain’s shifting positions on the crisis did not reflect well on his calm under fire, and his choice of the Alaska governor as vice presidential nominee “raised in my mind some question as to the judgment that Senator McCain made.”
Powell said that Obama, in contrast, had come out of recent weeks looking presidential with a “steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge” in his approach to the economic crisis.”
….
I was listening with interest to what Powell was saying until he made the above statement. I think that statement is way out of line in questioning McCain’s judgment because of his choice for vice president. But then it’s my opinion that Palin was a great choice. And then he turns around and criticizes McCain for bringing up Ayers. I believe it is Senator Obama’s judgment that is in question and I don’t think he looks presidential by any stretch.
Other than that, I don’t think it makes much difference as to who does or does not endorse a candidate.
Here is the list of people, who endorsed John McCain, is this going to be big news, in the news cycle 🙂

Interesting. Immediately after my post # 139 there was an instant response on ImusTruth. Actually two of them.

Now the interesting thing about these cute little observations is that they had to be posted by someone who closely follows both sites. One who posts on both sites.
I figure one of two people. I know who they are. Wonder if they have the courage to sign their name.
I doubt it.
For the record, I don’t post on ImusTruth. I would not be associated with those people. If you find that “pompous”, I declare myself proud to carry that name.
Oh yes, one more thing. You may address me as “Mr. Windbag”. LOL!
In my Sunday night-catchup of Friday’s Wall Street Journal, I found this amusing nugget. It’s a retrospective of wrathful hosts…
From column titled, “The Other Letterman Show” by Dorothy Rabinowitz, WSJ 10/17/08, ostensibly about John McCain’s return to the Letterman show after ditching Dave last month.

Regarding post 145. As an avid McCain supporter, I think it’s totally within reason to question the choice of Palin as VP.
Unqualified does not begin to describe her. The choice was nothing more than a play based on desperation. As appealing as she might be personally, there is nothing more that she brings to the party. Other than good eyesight, of course.
Was that too pompous?
Frec
I love it, I do miss Imus sticking the knife in and twisting it 🙂 Imus said something on Friday, about being on the way back but not back up to 100% yet. God Help those who doubt he isn’t planning on 100% and what will he do, when he reaches his full force? Imus stay away from the dark side LOL

Laree,
I wonder if Imus saw it, buried as it was under another headline? I have no idea who is the WSJ writer “Dorothy,” but (with all due repect to your avatar) she might be on her way to Oz, courtesy of the I-Man. 🙂
SkiWolf,
I read those scathing words regarding you and Donald by a No Name on Imus Truth. Was about to reply to them but felt just let the liars be.
Know you monitor that site. But know you do not post there.
I would make a suggestion since I am pro-active when it becomes apparent that someone is attacking me or anyone I know personally here or elsewhere. Get on there and attack in your own way. It’s the only way you can clear the air.
That’s me. You do what you feel is right. You never can trust who these No Names and made up names are. They are cowards.
And watch carefully how my words are skewed by one of these nut jobs. They monitor this site too.
It’s nice to see Frec posting here again. She is a friend of mine and I respect all she says. Let us all pray that Obama falls on his face.
No Karith this morning and no mention of her when Imus did introductions at 6:05am. Also, he has included Bernie more right from the beginning. To much to hope for? See what happens at 7:05am.
Bummer. Just mentioned Karith off today. Oh well.

The Real Plumbers of Ohio
By PAUL KRUGMAN
Published: October 20, 2008
Forty years ago, Richard Nixon made a remarkable marketing discovery. By exploiting America’s divisions — divisions over Vietnam, divisions over cultural change and, above all, racial divisions — he was able to reinvent the Republican brand. The party of plutocrats was repackaged as the party of the “silent majority,” the regular guys — white guys, it went without saying — who didn’t like the social changes taking place.
It was a winning formula. And the great thing was that the new packaging didn’t require any change in the product’s actual contents — in fact, the G.O.P. was able to keep winning elections even as its actual policies became more pro-plutocrat, and less favorable to working Americans, than ever.
John McCain’s strategy, in this final stretch, is based on the belief that the old formula still has life in it.
Thus we have Sarah Palin expressing her joy at visiting the “pro-America” parts of the country — yep, we’re all traitors here in central New Jersey. Meanwhile we’ve got Mr. McCain making Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, a k a Joe the Plumber — who had confronted Barack Obama on the campaign trail, alleging that the Democratic candidate would raise his taxes — the centerpiece of his attack on Mr. Obama’s economic proposals.
And when it turned out that the right’s new icon had a few issues, like not being licensed and comparing Mr. Obama to Sammy Davis Jr., conservatives played victim: see how much those snooty elitists hate the common man?
But what’s really happening to the plumbers of Ohio, and to working Americans in general?

PT:
I read that article earlier. This coming from a Nobel Prize winner on Economics: (from same article)
Maybe there are plumbers out there who earn that much, or who would end up suffering from Mr. Obama’s proposed modest increases in taxes on dividends and capital gains — America is a big country, and there’s probably a high-income plumber with a huge stock market portfolio out there somewhere. But the typical plumber would pay lower, not higher, taxes under an Obama administration, and would have a much better chance of getting health insurance.
I don’t want to suggest that everyone would be better off under the Obama tax plan. Joe the plumber would almost certainly be better off, but Richie the hedge fund manager would take a serious hit.
And on the other hand…
John McCain and an Army of Joes
The real anger at McCain’s rallies.
By Byron York
Woodbridge, Va. — Tito Munoz was ready to rock when John McCain showed here up at the Connaughton Community Plaza in Woodbridge, Virginia Saturday afternoon. Dressed in a yellow hard hat covered with McCain-Palin stickers, wearing an orange high-visibility vest, Munoz carried a hand-lettered sign that said CONSTRUCTION WORKER FOR McCAIN. He got a coveted spot in the bleachers directly behind McCain, where he could be seen in the camera shot along with the guy holding the sign that said PHIL THE BRICK LAYER and the woman with the ROSE THE TEACHER banner. He cheered a lot.
Everybody was playing on the Joe-the-Plumber theme. McCain spent a lot of time on it in his stump speech, using the now-famous Joe Wurzelbacher of Toledo, Ohio, as a stand-in for “small businessmen and women all over America [who] want to keep their earnings and not give it to the government.” McCain added that Obama’s response to Wurzelbacher — the assertion that it would be best to “spread the wealth around” — made Joe the Plumber “the only person to get a real answer out of Sen. Obama.”

“Damning Paulson and Bernanke: ‘Grotesquely Conflicted’ and ‘Most Lenient’
Posted Oct 20, 2008 11:58am EDT by Aaron Task in Newsmakers, Banking
Related: GS, MS, AIG, FNM, JPM, BAC, XLF
Ben Bernanke and Hank Paulson spoke Monday to alternatively discuss the need for another economic stimulus package and make the case for the bailout efforts taken to date.
Many issues about the rescue plan and the economy remain unanswered, but a more fundamental question remains: Are the Fed chairman and Treasury secretary up to the job?
A resounding “no” is the answer from Christopher Whalen, managing director at Institutional Risk Analytics, who is particularly critical of Paulson.
The Treasury secretary is “grotesquely conflicted” in his efforts to bail out his former employer, as detailed here, and has found “common cause” with an overly lenient Fed chairman.
“They have a bias to preserve the derivatives market” — the riskiest part of Wall Street, Whalen says, noting the government let Lehman and Bear fail but bailed out AIG and (according to Whalen) rescued Goldman Sachs and Morgan — at least for the time being.”

Christopher Whalen, in this interview, speaks directly towards what I have previously referred to as the “5TH shoe” that is hanging by a thread:
““They have a bias to preserve the derivatives market” — the riskiest part of Wall Street…”
I look forward to hearing Toobin, and it’s always a let-down when any scheduled guest no-shows. The riff they did with the phone numbers was classic, funnier than the call would have been, no doubt.
Perhaps Imus was too-quick to blame his folks for the miscommunication…however, I have to wonder because Craig Crawford noted he finds the IITM call-in system confusing (but Craig always shows-up on time even from where the buses don’t run).
“GIRD YOUR LOINS”
This is excellent, Obama has yet to win the election and Biden already has him in a bind resulting in a giant sh*t storm of Herculean proportions!

Rethinking Capitalism’s Contours
Summits Will Address Financial Crisis, but Divide Looms Between U.S. and EU
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122433901538447677.html
There’s another great idea subjugate the US market and economy to the rest of the world. (Sort of like a United Nations for banking.) Leave it to the French to come up with an idea like this.
from the above link 9168) to WSJ:
“At their meeting at Camp David in Maryland on Saturday, Mr. Sarkozy repeated his call for a new global financial order. “This is a world-wide crisis and therefore we must find a world-wide solution,” he said. The answer “will be all the more effective insofar as we find it together, we speak with one and the same voice, and we build together the capitalism of the future.”….
” a new global financial order.”
In this “global village” we now have found ourselves, and the destruction caused by the derivative markets and hedge funds…that were clearly “Made in America”…the rest of the financial world is seeking the very controls and oversight that our country couldn’t, or wouldn’t, do on it’s own.
hmmmm….
You got it correct Chanx….(post 169). 😉
Derivatives were always a big boys game. It would be naive to think European investors were not aware of the risks as they became involved.
On the other hand, Chanx…The “big question” is what can we do for the rest of the worlds’ financial markets to “make things right”?
I am hopeful, that the F.B.I. will press in full force to get the bastards that cooked this mess up, and wrought financial calamity in the world…and bring them to justice.
Putting oversight on these institutions will go a long way also.
Unfortunately, the destruction has already been wrought.
To give an example of who benefits from Sarkozy’s “world-wide solution” these are the Top 10 GDPs (millions of USD) according to the IMF;
1 United States 13,843,825
2 Japan 4,383,762
3 Germany 3,322,147
4 China (PRC) 3,250,827
5 United Kingdom 2,772,570
6 France 2,560,255
7 Italy 2,104,666
8 Spain 1,438,959
9 Canada 1,432,140
10 Brazil 1,313,590
US measurably has the biggest and strongest economy in the world. France ranked #6 has a meeting with the President of the US and casually suggests the US should subjugate itself to the world community!
“It would be naive to think European investors were not aware of the risks as they became involved.”
LOL…and the investors in OUR Country were any smarter? 😉
Hey, Chanx…your preaching to the choir here! I’m just pointing out what repercussions we face, and why.
Derivatives are limited to the most sophisticated investors. It’s not a matter of being smarter, it’s about being aware of the risk. Investors around the globe were well aware of the risks involved.
Credit swaps are still my all time favorite, enjoyed Col Jack’s description;
I love the French, they got such “grandes boules” Obviously I have been wasting my time learning the wrong Latin based language!
My sister Mary told me, her grandson, got a football scholarship to Tuscaloosa, University of Alabama, he is going to the Dental College but I can’t find him on any roster? Is it possible to get a football scholarship and not play?
Derivatives are $300 trillion market. As it is now they are traded over the counter (OTC) which on the face of it would seem unnecessarily risky.
A reasonable suggestion is to create a clearinghouse for derivatives. At least then there would be some sense of who was selling and buying along with financial standards to create a level of transparency. (Sort of like a stock exchange for derivatives.)
Maybe those banking guys Chris Dodd and Barney Frank can come up with a proposal.
“Credit Default Swaps Market, is basically buying insurance on stuff you don’t own. This market is $70 Trillion. It’s like taking out insurance on an automobile that I don’t own, that nobody owns, that doesn’t exist!”
Yes, that is the gospel truth…and Col. Jack Jacobs was right on the “money”.
That being said…
“Derivatives are limited to the most sophisticated investors.”
That does not apply. They were put into the markets (even the world markets) and “bundled” as something THEY WERE NOT. If you have a 401k, or a pension with investments in the markets, and you were purposely misled (which they were, hence the F.B.I. involvement…), that smacks of outright FRAUD…and that is what the F.B.I. is currently investigating.
Here is the real “scoop on the poop”.
“US faces worst recession in 26 years”
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/232eb4de-9e20-11dd-bdde-000077b07658.html
Again, according to Col. Jack Jacobs:
“This market is $70 Trillion”
What has our GDP to cover that?
Not even close to enough.
“Consumers, who account for 72 per cent of the US economy…”
from above link….
If you have a job, most are probably wary of their position in times as these.
If you have lost your job, take that out of the equation.
If your seeking a job…again, out of the equation.
What do you think Joe Biden has us girding our loins for?
Nationalization of the auto industry
Joining the European Union
Dissolution of the private health care in the US
Establishment of a global constitution
Oher ideas…
Col. Jack Jacobs was on the money on a further note:
If it doesn’t exist…how can you make money from it?
If you THROW more money at it, how will THAT fix it?
Did you ever read “The Emperors New Clothes” ?
““But the Emperor has nothing at all on!” said a little child.
“Listen to the voice of innocence!” exclaimed his father; and what the child had said was whispered from one to another.
“But he has nothing at all on!” at last cried out all the people. The Emperor was vexed, for he knew that the people were right; but he thought the procession must go on now! And the lords of the bedchamber took greater pains than ever, to appear holding up a train, although, in reality, there was no train to hold.”

This is interesting Joe Biden made is comment about Experience and Obama being tested. This is after they were briefed by the White House on Terrorism. Both Campaigns were briefed.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/barackobama/3224481/Barack-Obamas-team-is-briefed-by-Bush-staff-on-after-warnings-about-a-terrorist-attack.html
Ree, The question is what would BHO do in the event of a terrorist attack? Put more resources in Afghanistan? Invade Saudi Arabia? Put the squeeze on the Iranians? Immediately exit Iraq? Apoligize to the world for whatever?
ChannelXRFR
I was trying to put Joe Biden’s daily gaffe in context.
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/10/20/biden-obamas-inexperience-will-prompt-nations-to-test-us/
Barack Obama himself made a joke about this at the Alfred E Smith Dinner. I forget the exact wording. Something to the effect that “Someone” at one of his rallies, was shouting Nobo and that there were better candidates for President out there…the punch line, I really wish Joe Biden hadn’t said that 🙂 Obama was funny at that dinner. What would have been even funnier, since they were both sitting next to Cardinal Egan, is if both of them put fed ex envelopes on their heads, and sun glasses 😉 and ended their stand up routines with, What doesn’t belong and why, the punchline their opponent LOL! Lord Hear our Prayer.
Bruce, regarding your post 184:
I’ll pick my own battles to fight. Right now, in fact, I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ll go look. However, I doubt that it will be anything I care about.
My only hope, as previously stated, is that those people who post on ImusTruth stay there. It’s an appropriate place for people of that ilk be they on the right or left or in never never land as most seem to be.
Although I guess your intentions were in the right place, I would ask that you not do that again. Thanks.
Fine with me SkiWolf,
I will do for you or anyone here what I wish to do. And frankly do not need your permission. But never accuse me again of stating things over there negative about you.
“I will do for you or anyone here what I wish to do.”
Sounds like something Obama & Pelosi would propose. LOL!
Lucinda Williams quoting Shakespeare? “If Wishes were Horses” Where is stdomsgirl?

Well SkiWolf,
There are people on this site that post on that site. And for your information I am not a Democrat supporter.
I have no power over this site or the other. My words are my own.
If you cannot appreciate what I did then that is up to you. Right now let’s not turn this into Imus Truth.
To “let sleeping dogs lie” is to avoid restarting old conflicts. Revisiting an old conflict is like waking a sleeping dog; we are better not to do it.
You have to understand Bruce is unable and or unwilling to understand the difference between general noise and an attack. This is what makes Bruce such a interesting target for trolls and other such mischief makers. They know all they have to do is tweak him slightly and there will be an explosion.
Ask Bruce not to defend you? His response “I will do for you or anyone here what I wish to do. And frankly do not need your permission”. Then he will attack you for your request. After attacking you he will try to end it by saying something like “let sleeping dogs lie”. Next he will be asking for an email so the issue can be resolved.
Gee and here all the time I thought my response in post 190 was rather humorous. Oh well…….. Can’t blame me for trying.
Channel is always there to back up what I said.
WOW! Channel you are certainly impressing this large crowd here.
And I cannot waste my time emailing you.
I make no apologies.
Post 193 WAS quite humorous, thanks for the much needed chuckles!
venividivici2u,
I thought it was quite comical too. Funnier than all get out.
Thanks
Wish I could write that well. I hate X, for that. 🙂
Oh! An attack from Bruce. I didn’t expect that (sarcasm).
That’s OK Channel. I understand now why you are so ticked at me.
Fine with me. Happy Tuesday to you too.
Imus announces McCain to be on tomorrow. Good news.
What we know about Bruce. ~ No slight real or imagined, against himself or a virtual friend, will go unchallenged and he always always wants the last word.
Is it me or is Bette Middler channeling Joy Behar in this photo.
Joy Behar, I wonder where she keeps her broom 🙂
J.B.White’s take on the Colin Powell endorsement.
http://rattlergator.typepad.com/rattlergator/2008/10/the-african-american-slide.html
Great show today. Great news with McCain coming on the program tomorrow. Would certainly be a historic moment if Obama came on the program but he doesn’t think much of Imus or by inference the audience.
The Hendon and LeBoutillier interview regarding POW/MIA was incredibly interesting. “An Enormous Crime: The Definitive Account of American POWs Abandoned in Southeast Asia” by Bill Hendon and Elizabeth Stewart @ enormouscrime.com
I might be mistaken, did I hear Imus actually challenge Sally Quinn on facts and assertions she made regarding McCain and Muslims?
Referring to McCain’s appearance tomorrow, Imus wanted to know what questions Michael Graham would have for the Senator? Graham says he wants to know what the McCain doctrine or world view is because he doesn’t know what it is? Imus and Graham take one more shot at Joe Biden’s now classic three letter word “J-O-B-S”! Then paraphrases Biden saying I want you to vote for Barack Obama because we are going to get another Bay Of Pigs.
And that StDoms is the update for today!
Imus Twofer
Chick with some bad news for Mourning Joe and Les Moonves…
Oh yeah one other headline from the Chick..
New Post
What should Imus ask J-MAC
Hi, Laree
No one responded to your football question, so I will give it a stab. If the young man in question is a freshman, it is possible that he is being red-shirted to preserve his 4 years of eligibility. I don’t know the size of his school, but it is easier to compete with and against upperclassmen after a year of “bulking up” and learning the system. If they don’t need his position this year and can afford not to use a scholarship player, he may being saved for later. He is possibly on the team that the varsity works out against as they practice for the next game, i.e. Rudy. That’s just a guess.
Why read it when you can hear it.
This is a compilation of three things.
Michael Graham
John McCain talking about Biden
And Sally Quinn. She is AWFUL

I photos of him as a toddler in a football helmet. From what I understand he is playing defense.
Ree, I agree with Texas Girl most likely your nephew has been redshirted.
