Imus makes his “Fat Larry Summers” point referencing The Gray Lady

Larry Summers

Larry Summers

The Times editorial writers deftly avoid criticising Barack “Mr Change” Obama, slamming Larry Summers while not missing a parting shot at the Bush administration and giving the Clinton administration a deregulatory pass. (more…)

Ironic Armor

The latest Imus question goes like this, “When will white comedians begin to make fun of Obama?”  The thought is race is too controversial and Obama’s election too historic to be made fun of.  The New York Times explores this very topic in a piece by Andy Newman “Irony Is Dead. Again. Yeah, Right.”.  Newman  advances the question regarding comedy, citing sources such as Joan Didon whom he credits as “the nation’s poet laureate of disillusion”… (more…)

We in the I-Nation have all been aware that MSNBC’s deficiencies were at the core of the crisis that brought us all together April last year, where free speech ran into people’s expectation of what a “news channel” ought to be. The weak decision to drop Imus was standard operating procedure for Steve Capus and the MSNBC management, who now preside over the cable net’s implosion, indeed whose decisions are defining the implosion, one-by-one. Colonel Jack Jacobs Opines On Obama For Imus

ChanX CliffsNotes

Imus asked Col Jack what he thought of the Obama Iraq trip. According to the Colonel, Obama will not have any information he did not have before the trip.  Nobody does, there is no substance to it at all.  Would be no different if McCain went to Iraq.  “It’s all eye wash” is how the Colonel summarized the trip. Since we were all accused of being Marxists over here (even a Bourgeoisie running dog capitaist pig like ChanX (just kiding buddy, you know the proletariat loves you)) I thought I’d post the most recent E-mail I received from Comrade, errrr…I mean, ahem, Senator Sanders of Vermont.

The Collapse of the Middle Class, Letters from Vermont and America — 06/06/2008

By Senator Bernard Sanders

The official unemployment rate in the United States surged to 5.5 percent last month, the Labor Department announced this morning. The biggest increase in more than two decades will be on the front pages of the Saturday newspapers. Statistics are one thing. Real life is another. (more…)

Discussions here and “over there” have gotten me thinking recently. (Could ya smell the wood burning?) Points brought up by one of my favorite posters and echoed by other people I feel very close to are:

Why should I police a site?

What does it matter?

Who does it hurt to just let it go? (more…)

During the hysteria-filled frenzy following the I-Man’s comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team last April, Barack Obama was the first presidential nominee to call for Imus’ ouster:

There’s nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group.

– Barack Obama, April 9, 2007 in an interview with ABC News

VIDEO: “He would not be working for me…I don’t want to be an enabler…for the unbelievably offensive statements that were made.”

The hypocrisy of Obama’s statements is immediately obvious in light of the recent revelations regarding the candidate’s close connections to racist pastor Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who was an advisor to his campaign until a few days ago. But the disconnect is that Imus’ comments, inappropriate as they were, were satirical. Reverend Wright’s statements, on the other hand, display hate-filled racism, justified by falsehoods(“The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color.”). [more statements from Reverend Wright]

Who Can Say What?People in Wright’s congregation no doubt use what they learn from their pastor on Sunday to justify their own weekday racism as well. This is very dangerous. He is inciting real violence when he declares that African-Americans committing black-on-black crime are “fighting the wrong enemy.” [WorldNetDaily]

Back in April ’07, Obama said that Imus’ remark was “verbal violence.” If Obama is even going to be emotionally consistent, it seems like Reverend Wright is at the very least engaged in “verbal violence.”

But it sounds like Wright is inciting real violence against people based on skin color. Imus’ NHH remark was the single most extreme example in a morning comedy program for adults, the exception that proved the rule. It took a Media Matters lackey 2 years of lurking to find something suitably offensive. Obama, on the other hand, took his children to hear Wright speak regularly. And Wright wasn’t being satirical. Indeed, if the black men passing by Obama’s grandmother on the street had just heard this sermon, she might have had a reason to have been frightened. (more…)

First of all let me apologize for not having posted or commented much in the last few weeks. Let’s just say “real life” has been slapping me ’bout the head and shoulders with a over-sized halibut, or at least that’s what it feels like. Damn that real life! Damn it straight Chappaqua, NY! (Isn’t that where Satan lives?)

On to other things…

Finally got to hear Debra Dickerson. I think I’m in love. What a brilliant, humble, honest, endearing woman. Her students can count themselves lucky. I would go back to school just to sit in her classroom. (more…)
